Welcome to Story Time!

Hello, friends! How are you today? Did you have fun at school? Did you play with your friends and learn new things? Have you been reading lots of books? Today, we have a special story called “Soon” by Libby Gleason and Jeddah Robard. Let’s read it together!

Waiting for the Baby

In our story, a family is waiting for a new baby. The little one asks, “When will the baby come, Mom?” And Mom says, “Soon.”

Getting Ready

They wash tiny baby clothes. The little one asks again, “When will the baby come, Mom?” And Mom says, “Soon.”

They paint the baby’s crib. “When will the baby come, Mom?” asks the little one. And Mom says, “Soon.”

They sort all the toys. “When will the baby come, Mom?” asks the little one. And Mom says, “Soon.”

Almost Time!

The little one thinks the baby must be nearly here. “Will it be today?” they ask. Mom shakes her head and says, “Soon.”

The little one pats Mom’s tummy, and the baby bumps their hand. “Will the baby ever come, Mom?” they ask. Mom smiles and says, “I think so.”

The Big Moment

Mom is getting tired, and they wait a bit longer. They wait, wait, wait… and then… Yay! The baby is here!

They have a brand new baby! Isn’t that wonderful?

Do You Have a Baby Brother or Sister?

Do you have a baby brother or sister? If you do, you’re so lucky! Babies are so special and fun to have around.

I hope you enjoyed the story “Soon.” Remember to read lots of books and have fun learning new things. See you next time for more stories!

Bye-bye!

  • Have you ever had to wait for something exciting to happen, like the little one in the story? How did it feel to wait, and what did you do while you waited?
  • If you have a baby brother or sister, what are some things you like to do with them? If not, what do you think it would be like to have a baby in your family?
  • What are some ways you can help your family get ready for something new, like a new baby or a special event? Can you think of any fun activities you could do together?
  1. Baby Countdown Calendar: Create a simple countdown calendar with your child to help them understand the concept of waiting. Use colorful paper to make a chain with one link for each day until a special event, like a birthday or holiday. Each day, remove one link and talk about how many days are left. This helps children visualize time and understand the idea of “soon.”

  2. Role Play with Dolls: Encourage your child to play with dolls or stuffed animals to act out the story. They can pretend to wash baby clothes, paint a crib, or sort toys just like in the story. This hands-on activity helps children empathize with the characters and understand the preparations involved in welcoming a new family member.

  3. Observation Walk: Take a walk around your neighborhood or garden and observe things that are “coming soon,” like flowers about to bloom or fruits growing on trees. Ask your child questions like, “What do you think will happen soon?” or “How can we tell something is almost ready?” This encourages them to apply the concept of waiting and anticipation to the world around them.
