In today’s lesson, young explorers learned the fun of sorting by grouping animals and shapes based on their similarities. They practiced identifying and categorizing elephants, frogs, bears, triangles, squares, and circles, reinforcing their understanding of sorting as a playful and engaging activity. The lesson concluded with a challenge, encouraging children to apply their sorting skills independently.
  1. What animals did we sort today?
  2. Can you tell me how we sorted the shapes?
  3. Why is sorting things into groups fun?

Welcome to Fun Sorting with Animals and Shapes!

Hello, little explorer! Today, we’re going to have fun sorting animals and shapes into groups. Sorting means putting things that are the same together. Are you ready to play and learn? Let’s go!

Sorting Animals

First, let’s look at some animals. We have elephants, frogs, and bears. Our job is to put all the same animals together in their own groups. Let’s start with the elephants!

Finding Elephants

Here’s an elephant! Let’s put him in the elephant group. Can you find another elephant? Yay, here’s another one! Let’s add him to the elephant group too. Are there any more elephants? Nope, I think we’re done with elephants. Great job!

Finding Frogs

Now, let’s find the frogs. Here’s a frog! Let’s put him in the frog group. Can you spot another frog? Yes, here’s one more! Let’s add him to the frog group. Oh, look, there’s one last frog. Let’s put him with the other frogs. Well done!

Finding Bears

Time to find the bears! Here’s a bear. Let’s put him in the bear group. Can you find the last bear? There it is! Let’s add him to the bear group. Hooray! All the animals are sorted!

Sorting Shapes

Now, let’s try sorting some shapes. We have triangles, squares, and circles. Let’s sort them just like we did with the animals.

Finding Triangles

Here’s a triangle! Let’s put it in the triangle group. Can you find another triangle? Great, here’s the last triangle. Let’s add it to the triangle group. Awesome!

Finding Squares

Let’s find the squares now. Here’s a square! Let’s put it in the square group. Here’s another square, and one more! Let’s add them to the square group. Fantastic!

Finding Circles

Finally, let’s find the circles. We have two circles left. Let’s put them both in the circle group. Yay, we did it!

Challenge Time!

Now it’s your turn! Can you sort some shapes on your own? Look carefully at each shape and put them in the right group. You can do it!

Remember, sorting is like a fun puzzle. You just need to look closely and think about what goes together. Thanks for playing and learning with us today. See you next time for more fun adventures!

  • What are some things you like to sort at home or school? Can you think of different ways to sort them, like by color, size, or type?
  • When you sorted the animals and shapes, did you notice anything special about them? How do you think sorting helps us understand the world around us?
  • Can you think of a time when you had to sort something in real life, like toys or clothes? How did you decide which group each item belonged to?
  1. Animal and Shape Hunt: Go on a mini adventure around your home or classroom. Look for objects that remind you of the animals and shapes we sorted. Can you find something that looks like an elephant, a frog, or a bear? How about a triangle, square, or circle? Gather your findings and sort them into groups just like we did in the lesson. Share your discoveries with a friend or family member!

  2. Sorting Game with Friends: Invite a friend to play a sorting game with you. Use toys, blocks, or cut-out pictures of animals and shapes. Take turns picking an item and deciding which group it belongs to. Can you sort them all correctly? After sorting, mix them up and try again. See if you can sort them faster each time!

  3. Question Time: Think about these questions and discuss them with a parent or teacher:

    • Why do you think sorting is important? Can you think of a time when sorting helps us in real life?
    • What other things can we sort besides animals and shapes? Can you name some examples?

Welcome to Kids Academy!

When we look at a group of objects, we can sort them into three categories. The first thing we should do before we start sorting is to examine the objects and the names of the groups. Today, we’ll be sorting some animals into different groups. We have some elephants, frogs, and bears.

Let’s sort them group by group, or in this case, animal by animal. We’ll find and sort all the same type of animal before moving on to the next type. We can start with elephants, then move on to frogs, and finally the bears.

Here’s an elephant! Let’s put him in the group for elephants. Can you find any more elephants to sort?

Here’s another elephant! Let’s add him to the group of elephants too. Are there any more elephants? I can’t see any. Let’s move on to the next group of animals. We can check our work at the end to see if we’ve missed any animals.

Now, let’s find the frogs and sort them. I found the first frog! Let’s put him in the group for frogs. Can you find any more frogs to sort?

Got another one! We can add this frog to the group for frogs too. Are there any more frogs left? Yes, there are! Here’s the last frog. Let’s put him in the group for frogs, and then we can move on to sorting the bears.

This isn’t so hard—finding and sorting one animal or one group at a time. Here’s the first bear! Let’s put him in the group for bears. Can you find any more bears to sort?

Here’s the last bear! It’s also the last animal. All of the other animals have been sorted. Let’s put this bear in the group for bears. Great work!

Now, let’s try to sort one more group of objects. We’ll get started together, but I’ll ask you to finish sorting these objects on your own during challenge time. This time, the groups will be different, so we’ll have to pay close attention to details.

Here we have a group of shapes. We’ll be sorting them into triangles, squares, and circles. Let’s use the same strategy as before and sort group by group, or in this example, shape by shape.

Let’s start with the triangles. Here’s the first triangle! Let’s put it in the group for triangles. Are there any more triangles? Well, now it’s your turn! I’ll leave you with a challenge. I want you to finish sorting the shapes into three groups. I’ll give you some time to think, but if you need more time, you can pause the video and answer when you’re ready.

Okay, here’s the answer! Here’s the other triangle, so let’s put it in the group for triangles. That’s the last one. Now we can find all the squares.

Here’s the first square! Let’s put it in the group for squares. Here’s another one; it belongs in the group for squares too. And finally, here’s the last one; it also belongs in the group for squares.

The only shapes we have left are two circles. They both belong in the group for circles. Let’s put them both in the circle group. Great work on the challenge! Remember to look at all the objects and the names of the groups carefully before you start sorting.
