Hey there! Have you ever wondered what light is and how it helps us see things? Let’s find out together in a fun and easy way!
Light is something magical that helps us see the world around us. It’s made up of tiny waves that travel from different places, called light sources. These waves bounce off objects and come to our eyes, allowing us to see everything!
There are many sources of light all around us. Some are small, like the lights on the street, and some are big, like the lights in a stadium. Even the screen on your tablet or computer is a source of light. And don’t forget about the light from a flame!
The sun is the biggest source of light for us. It lights up everything during the day. But what happens when the sun goes down? Let’s explore!
Even when the sun is not shining, we have other lights to help us see. We use electric lights in our homes and on our devices. These lights help us see at night.
At night, the moon becomes a big light in the sky. It doesn’t make its own light but reflects the sunlight to us. And if you look up, you’ll see stars twinkling. They are tiny lights far, far away!
If we turn off all the lights, it becomes completely dark. Darkness is when there is no light at all, and we can’t see anything. It’s like closing your eyes really tight!
When the lights are back on, the light from a source, like the sun or a lamp, travels in waves. These waves bounce off objects and come to our eyes, letting us see everything around us. Isn’t that cool?
Now that we know all about light, it’s time to have some fun! Grab your favorite game and enjoy playing with your friends. Remember, light makes everything more fun and exciting!

Light Detective: Become a light detective in your home! Walk around with a notebook and pencil and list all the different sources of light you can find. Look for lamps, sunlight through windows, screens, and even the tiny lights on electronic devices. Discuss with your family which light sources are natural and which are man-made.
Shadow Play: On a sunny day, go outside and play with shadows. Use your body or objects like toys to create different shapes on the ground. Notice how the position of the sun changes the size and shape of the shadows. Try making a shadow puppet show and think about how light helps create shadows.
Light and Color Experiment: Gather some colored transparent sheets or cellophane paper. Hold them up to a light source and observe how the light changes color. Try mixing two colors and see what new color you can create. Discuss how light can change the way we see colors.

Welcome to Kids Academy! [Music]
Ollie, I know it’s up here somewhere. Can you turn the light on? Ah, that’s better! Here it is; it’s much easier to find things now that the light is on.
What is light? That’s a really good question! Light is made up of waves. These waves travel from light sources, bounce off objects, and come to our eyes, allowing us to see things. Light sources come in all shapes and sizes. Little lights like this one help light up streets, while big lights help illuminate stadiums. Some lights help light up screens, and light from a flame is another source.
Sources of light are all around us. Very rarely do we find ourselves in a completely dark situation. Right now, my main source of light is the sun. So, let’s see what happens if I turn that off.
Even without the sunlight, you can probably still see me. There are many other sources of light besides the sun. We have electric lights, like those in your house, or the screen on your tablet or computer, which help light up things at night. Now, let’s go ahead and shut those off.
Now, you may be able to dimly see me, but most of our light sources have been turned off. However, as we know, when we go for a walk at night, there’s one more big source of light: the moon. The moon actually reflects sunlight onto us, so let’s go ahead and turn that off now.
Now there’s one last source of light, and those are the stars. Let’s see what happens if we turn those off.
Now I’ve turned off all the sources of light; it should be completely dark. Black is the absolute absence of light. If there are no sources of light, you’re not going to be able to see anything.
Let’s go ahead and turn all those back on. Hey, welcome back! Now that the lights are back on, the light comes from the sun, bounces off me, and is collected by the camera. That’s how we see things!
Light comes from a light source, which could be the sun, a lamp, or even a fire. It travels in waves from the source until it bounces off an object. When that light meets our eye, it allows us to see things. If there is no source of light, we see black. That’s pretty neat!
Okay, Ollie, we got our game and our light source. Now let’s play! We’ll see you folks next time. Bye, everyone! Are you going to go first?
