In a wonderful place called the land of the givers, there lived a sloth named Sleepy Stanley. Stanley loved to nap and often moved very slowly. Because of this, he was sometimes late for school, games, and fun shows.
On the last day of school, all the kids were super excited and cheered as they left. Sleepy Stanley was the last one out and called to his friend Ellie, who knew he was always a bit slow. “Can you hold up the bus so I can make it?” he asked.
Ellie often helped Stanley catch the bus after school, especially when they went to the pool. As Stanley climbed onto the bus, he said, “Thank you, Ellie, for waiting for me. Are you ready for our big swim and the cool tricks we’ll do at the gym? We’ve practiced every day for our synchronized dives, triple jumps, and high fives because Lake Laal Paloa is coming soon with its high diving contest tomorrow at noon. Oh, the Lake Fest is going to be so much fun—a day in the sun where all the kids will swim and compete!”
Ellie was the leader of the setup crew for the event and shared her thoughts as they rode the bus. “I’m a little worried about getting everything ready,” she said.
“Oh, you’ll do great!” Stanley replied. Then he had an idea. “Even though I’m sleepy and sometimes late, could I help with the setup?”
“That would be awesome! I can ask a few friends to help too. We can all get up early and surprise Ellie!” Stanley said excitedly.
Back at home, Stanley called all his friends. “Will you help me help Ellie? Let’s set up the show. Meet at my place tomorrow at sunrise!” he asked.
Stanley set 12 alarms to make sure he woke up on time. When dawn arrived, his clocks started ringing, and the Gratitude Kids began to sing. They sang joyfully, and the Thanks a Bunch Band joined in with a big bang! Stanley’s friends and even the town’s helpers came with police cars and fire trucks to assist.
Sleepy Stanley woke up, opened his eyes, and got out of bed. “Thanks for waking me up! Now let’s head to the lake and get to work,” he said.
Ellie arrived at 8, and everything was already done. All she had to do was enjoy the fun in the sun. “Stan, did you wake up early to help me? That’s so sweet! You’re amazing!” Ellie exclaimed.
“You all made this easy. Everyone played their part and gave their time with big-hearted kindness,” Stanley replied happily.
So here’s a question for you: Would you give up something you love to do just to help out a friend? Maybe spare an hour or two? Your generous time can really help a friend in need.

Timekeeper Challenge: Just like Stanley, let’s practice being on time! Set a timer for 5 minutes and see how many fun tasks you can complete before it rings. You could try drawing a picture, building a small block tower, or even tidying up your toys. After the timer goes off, think about how it felt to race against the clock. Was it exciting? Did it help you focus?
Helping Hands Activity: Stanley and his friends worked together to help Ellie. Think of a small way you can help someone at home or school. It could be setting the table, organizing books, or helping a friend with their homework. After you help, talk about how it made you feel and how it might have made the other person feel too.
Story Time Reflection: Imagine you are Stanley. Write or draw a short story about a time you helped a friend or family member. What did you do? How did it make you feel? Share your story with a classmate or family member and discuss how helping others can make a big difference.

**Stanley the Sloth and the Tremendous Timekeeper**
In the land of the givers, where giving is great, there’s a slow-moving sloth named Sleepy Stanley. He loved naps and dozing off, which often made him late for school, games, and shows.
On the last day of school, all the kids had a blast and cheered as they left. Sleepy Stan came out last and called out to Ellie, who knew his slow trend. “Can you hold up the bus so I can make it?”
Ellie often helps Stan with his ride after school when they go to the pool. As he climbed the steps, Stanley said, “Thank you, Ellie, for sharing your time. Are you ready for our big swim and the acrobatics we’ll do at the gym? We’ve practiced each day for our synchronized dives, triple jumps, and high fives because Lake Laal Paloa is coming soon with its high diving contest tomorrow at noon. Oh, the Lake Fest is awesome—a day in the sun where all the kids will be swimming and competing for fun!”
Ellie, who was the number one lead on the setup crew, shared her thoughts as they rode on the bus. “I’m a little worried. I’ll try not to fuss.”
“Oh, you’ll set it up great! I think you’ll do well,” Stanley replied.
Then, a slow thought came to Stanley. “Even though I’m sleepy and tend to run late, could I help with the setup?”
“That would be great! I can ask a few friends because there’s so much to do. We can all get up early and surprise Ellie!”
As he practiced, Stanley mapped out a plan in his mind. Back at home, he called every friend he could find. “Will you help me help Ellie? We’ll set up the show. Meet tomorrow at my place at sunrise!”
Stanley set 12 alarms and lay down in bed, with thoughts of his plans swirling around in his head.
At dawn, Stanley’s clocks started to ring, and the Gratitude Kids began to sing. They sang from their bellies, their harmonies rang, and the Thanks a Bunch Band showed up with a bang! Stanley’s backup had backup—the town sent its crew with police cars, fire trucks, and more.
Sleepy Stan shook his head yes, opened his eyes, and climbed out of bed. “Thanks for waking me up! Now let’s get to the lake. We can all go to work and won’t take a break.”
Ellie showed up at 8, and the work was all done. All she had left to do was have fun in the sun. “Stan, did you wake up early to help me? That’s sweet! You’re tremendous!”
“Oh, you just can’t be beat! You all made this easy. You all played your parts and gave up your time with your big-hearted hearts.”
The Lake Laal Paloa was filled with light, and the high diving duo hit their dive right.
So here’s a question for you: Would you give up something you love to do just to help out a friend? Spare an hour or two? Your generous time can help a pal through.
