Hello, friends! How are you today? Did you have fun at school? I bet you learned something new! Do you like reading books? That’s great!
Today, we have a special story called “Stay Little Seed” by Christiana Valentini and Philip Giordano. Let’s dive into the story!
Once upon a time, on top of a hill, there was a big tree full of tiny seeds. These seeds were quiet and small, but one day, they would grow into big, tall trees reaching for the sky. All the seeds were excited to start their journey, except for one little seed.
When a strong wind blew, all the seeds flew away to new places, but the tiny seed stayed on the tree. The tree asked, “Why are you still here? Don’t you want to join your brothers and sisters?” But the little seed just shook its head. It was the only seed that wanted to stay.
The tree wanted the seed to grow big and strong, but it also loved having the seed close by. When it rained, the tree kept the seed dry. When the sun was hot, the tree shaded the seed. The tree always said, “Just one more day,” and the seed stayed.
One day, while the tree was asleep, a bird called a magpie came and took the tiny seed. The tree tried to stop the bird, but it was too late. The bird dropped the seed, and it fell down, down, down to a new place.
The tree worried about the seed, wondering if it was okay. Seasons passed, and the tree never stopped thinking about its little seed.
Then, one warm day, the tree heard a voice. It was the tiny seed, now a strong and beautiful sapling, calling from the meadow below. The seed had found a lovely new home and didn’t need a hat, clothes, or boots after all!
The tree was so happy to see its little seed had grown up and was safe and sound.
Wasn’t that a lovely story? It’s all about love and adventure! If you liked “Stay Little Seed,” you might want to read it again or share it with a friend.
We also have another sweet story called “I Love You Wherever You Are.” It’s about a little bug and how much it’s loved, no matter where it goes. This story reminds us that love is always with us, like the stars in the sky.
Thank you for joining us for storytime! We hope you enjoyed the stories. Remember, you are loved and special. See you next time!
Seed Observation Walk: Take a walk in your garden or a nearby park with a grown-up. Look for seeds, plants, and trees. Can you find seeds that have fallen from trees? What do they look like? Talk about how these seeds might grow into big trees one day, just like in the story. Draw a picture of your favorite seed or plant that you found.
Seed Planting Activity: With the help of an adult, plant a seed in a small pot. It could be a sunflower seed, a bean, or any seed you have at home. Water it and place it in a sunny spot. Watch it grow over the next few weeks. Keep a journal with drawings of how your seed changes and grows, just like the little seed in the story.
Story Discussion: Think about the little seed’s adventure. Why do you think the seed was scared to leave the tree at first? How did the tree show love to the seed? Talk with a friend or family member about a time you felt scared to try something new. What helped you feel brave?

On the top of a hill above a beautiful meadow, there was a tree covered in seeds. The seeds were small and silent, but one day they would be big trees of their own, reaching for the sky and whispering with the wind. They couldn’t wait—except for one. When a great wind came and blew the seeds north and south, one tiny seed stayed. It clung to its branch in the tree.
“Oh,” said the tree, “you’re still here! Hurry up or you’ll be left behind. Don’t you want to join all your brothers and sisters?”
But the tiny seed didn’t move, except to shake its head. No, the tiny seed was the only one that had ever tried to stay. The tree knew it needed to let go of its branch and fly off to who knows where if it was going to grow big and strong. But the tree had a tender heart. It didn’t know anything about who knows where. Would the tiny cautious seed be welcomed there? Besides, sometimes the tree found it lonely on the hill. Maybe the seed could stay after all.
The next stage, the tree was planning to encourage the seed to leave, but then it saw rain clouds coming. It wasn’t fun to travel in the rain, so instead, the tree protected the tiny seed from the big wet drops.
“Just one more day,” said the tree. But it rained for a whole week. When at last the sun came out, the tree saw a new problem. It would be terrible if the seed got a sunburn. “You can’t go out in the sun without a hat, can you?” The seed, who could only imagine a hat, supposed the tree must be right.
“Just one more day,” said the tree. On windy days, the tree rocked the tiny seed, saying, “You can’t leave without some clothes when it is so windy and cold, can you?” The tiny seed, who could only imagine clothes, agreed.
And so it went: “You can’t go anywhere without boots, can you?” said the tree. “No, I can’t,” agreed the seed. “Just one more day, just one more day, just one more day.”
The tiny seed didn’t leave. The tree kept it close, watching over it, worrying about what would happen if it went off to who knows where. The tree and the seed were both afraid of that.
Still, the tree couldn’t protect the seed all the time. One morning, while the tree was sleeping, a magpie swooped down. It grabbed the tiny seed. The tree woke up and rustled its leaves to try to stop the bird, but it was too late. The magpie had already broken the seed off its branch. Then the bird opened its mouth to laugh, and the seed fell down, down, down, all the way to who knows where.
“Oh no! Is my tiny seed okay?” worried the tree. The tree worried and wondered for a long time. As the seasons passed and other seeds came and left, the tree never stopped wondering with its tender heart.
Until one warm day, the tree heard a voice drift up from below. “Hello! Hello!” In the wind, the tree’s tip-top branches leaned over. It recognized its seed at once. Only now, it wasn’t a seed at all but a sapling—beautiful and strong.
“Oh my dear tiny seed!” the tree called back. “Hello! Hello!” Who knows where wasn’t so far away. It was a beautiful meadow just below the hill, and the tiny seed hadn’t needed a hat or clothes or boots after all. It had made a safe journey all by itself.
And that was “Stay Little Seed.” Wasn’t that just a lovely story? I love it! If you would like to own a copy of this book, the links to purchase it are in the description below. I love you wherever you are, little bug. It’s been true from the start. From the first time I held you in my arms, I looked at you and gave you my whole heart.
Little bug, this will always be true. I love you wherever you are.
And when we’re driving in a car with lots of stops and lots of starts, you have the compass of my heart.
Little bug, it’s true on the road too. I love you wherever you are.
And when you’re playing in a yard with toys and friends and a Saint Bernard, you have the joy in my heart.
Little bug, it’s true in good times too. I love you wherever you are.
And when it’s getting cold and dark enough to see the moon and stars, you have the warm light of my heart.
Little bug, it’s true in the cold too. I love you wherever you are.
And when life starts to feel a little hard, when it seems like things could fall apart, you have the shelter of my heart.
Little bug, it’s true in tough times too. I love you wherever you are.
And if we’re ever far apart, even if it feels like the farthest of far, little bug, you are always in my heart.
It’s true in the wide open blue. I love you wherever you are.
Remember my love when you look at the stars. You have my light, you have my heart.
On good days and bad days, near or far, my little one, my beautiful bug, I love you wherever you are.
Hope you enjoy “I Love You Wherever You Are.” When you buy a copy of this book, it also comes with a bag of cute little stars that you can stick on your ceiling to remind you that you are so loved.
