Hello, friends! How are you today? I hope you’re having a great day and taking care of yourself and your family. Today, we’re going to read a fun story called “The Perfect Hat” by Zoha Bukhari. Let’s dive into the adventure!
Once upon a time, in a snowy land where it snowed all year long, there lived many snowmen. These snowmen were big and strong, and they all wore hats with ribbons. They wore their hats during the day and even when they went to sleep at night.
Among these snowmen was a little snowman named Boo. Boo wanted a different hat because he didn’t like wearing the same black hat as everyone else. He asked the other snowmen why they all wore the same hats, and they said, “Because they fit just right!” But Boo wanted a special hat that was one of a kind.
Boo searched everywhere for a new hat, but all he could find were the same tall hats with bows. One day, while walking, Boo saw a small bear who had fallen and hurt his arm. Boo quickly helped the bear stand up.
The bear, whose name was Teddy, asked Boo to help carry his things to his cave. Boo happily agreed. On the way, Boo told Teddy about his search for a new hat. Teddy smiled and said, “I might be able to help with that!”
When they reached Teddy’s cave, Boo was amazed! The walls were covered with all kinds of hats—big, small, colorful, and even some with funny shapes. Teddy told Boo he could choose any hat he wanted as a thank you for helping him.
Boo looked around and saw a beautiful bright red hat. It reminded him of his grandma’s delicious red apple pie. Boo knew this was the perfect hat for him!
Teddy gave Boo the red hat, and Boo couldn’t wait to show it to all the snowmen in the land. As Boo walked through the town, everyone stared at his bright red hat. At first, they were quiet, but Boo encouraged them to try it on.
Some snowmen tried the new hat and found it cozy and fun! Soon, everyone wanted a colorful and unique hat just like Boo’s. Boo knew exactly who to call—Teddy! Teddy brought hats for everyone, and the snowmen were so happy with their new, special hats.
Now, there was room for all kinds of hats, not just the tall black ones. Boo was thrilled because he had found the perfect hat!
Do you like hats? Do you have a favorite hat? Hats can be so much fun!
Thank you for joining us for this story. We hope you enjoyed it! See you next time for more fun adventures. Take care and bye-bye!
Hat Design Challenge: Gather some craft materials like paper, markers, stickers, and ribbons. Encourage the children to design their own unique hats, just like Boo did. Ask them to think about what makes their hat special and why they chose certain colors or decorations. Once they finish, have a mini fashion show where each child can present their hat and explain their design choices.
Hat Observation Walk: Take the children on a short walk around the school or playground. Ask them to observe and note any hats they see. Encourage them to think about why people wear different types of hats and what makes each hat unique. After the walk, gather the children and discuss their observations. What kinds of hats did they see? Did any hat remind them of Boo’s story?
Story Reflection Questions: Gather the children in a circle and ask them some thought-provoking questions about the story. For example: “Why do you think Boo wanted a different hat?” or “How did Boo feel when he found the perfect hat?” Encourage the children to share their thoughts and relate the story to their own experiences with favorite items or clothing.

Hi everyone! Welcome back to the Storytime Family. How are you doing today? I hope you’ve been well and taking good care of yourself and your family.
Today, we have a book called “The Perfect Hat” by Zoha Bukhari. Let’s check it out!
**The Perfect Hat**
Once upon a time, there was a land where it snowed all year long, and snowmen roamed, all big and strong. A few had scarves, and a few had mittens, but all of them wore hats styled with a ribbon. They wore the hats during the day and even at night when they slept. Tall and elegant, they wore them on their heads.
Among all the snowmen with their tall black hats, little Boo the Snowman wanted a different hat. Boo asked the other snowmen why everyone wore the same black hats. Each time he was told, “Because the hats fit just right.” Since they had worn the black hats from the very start, they wore the only hats in their hearts. It was clear there was no room for any other hat in the land. Boo felt alone because he still wanted a different hat—something grand. He wanted his hat to be one of a kind.
The trouble was, where could he find it? Boo searched high and low, but all he could see around him were tall hats with bows. One day, Boo went for a walk and saw a small bear who stumbled on a rock. The bear fell down and hurt his arm and scratched his hand. Boo quickly went to his side to help him stand.
“Will you help me carry my things to my cave?” the bear asked, crying in pain. Boo agreed happily and asked for his name.
“My name is Teddy the Bear, and my cave is not too far from that tree over there.”
Along the way, Boo told Teddy about his search for a new hat. Teddy excitedly announced, “I might be able to help with that!”
When they reached Teddy’s cave and went inside, Boo was so surprised he could not believe his eyes. There were so many hats; they covered the entire wall. There were all kinds of different hats—large and small. Some hats were made of jelly, while others were quite smelly. Some had colors so bold, while others had funky-looking mold. There were hats made of gold, while some were filled with holes. Some hats had animal ears, while others seemed to just disappear.
“Choose any hat you wish for helping me,” Teddy insisted on giving Boo a hat as a thank you. Boo looked around, deciding which one to pick, when he suddenly saw a beautiful bright red hat sitting on a pile of sticks. The bright red hat caught Boo’s eye and reminded him of his grandma’s red apple pie. Boo looked forward to eating her red apple pie every summer. He wanted to show his grandma right away; she would love the bright red color.
“This one!” said Boo, dazzled by the hat.
“Call me if you need more hats in the future,” Teddy said as he placed the hat in Boo’s hand. Teddy prepared to leave for home. With his new hat, Boo could not wait to show every snowman in the land.
“Come again anytime!” Teddy waved goodbye.
Boo left for the Town Square. As he passed other snowmen on his way back, everyone he saw would stare. As Boo reached the town, he wore the red hat on his head, so proud.
In just a few minutes, the bright red hat gathered a big crowd. At first, nobody said anything; everyone was quiet. Boo told them not to judge until they tried. Some of the snowmen tried the new hat, hesitant about the change, and to their surprise, the hat felt cozy and not at all strange.
The snowmen liked the new hat, and now Boo did not feel so alone because everyone wanted a hat of their own. Everyone wanted colorful, funky designs, both large and small. Luckily, Boo knew just who to call. Very soon, Teddy had brought hats for everyone to wear. The snowmen were so happy with the unique designs, all so rare. There was room for hats different from all the tall black hats at last, and little Boo was so happy that he found the perfect hat.
And that was the perfect hat!
How about you? Do you like hats? Do you have the perfect hat?
