Storytime Fun: The Boy Who Cried Ninja

Hi there! Today, we’re going to have some fun with a story called “The Boy Who Cried Ninja” by Alex Latimer. Let’s dive into the adventure!

Meet Tim

Once upon a time, there was a boy named Tim. Tim had a big problem: no one believed him! When his mom asked what happened to the last slice of cake, Tim said a ninja sneaked in and ate it. Can you imagine that?

Tim’s Wild Stories

Tim had more wild stories to tell. When his dad asked about the missing hammer, Tim said an astronaut borrowed it to fix his spaceship. And when his grandpa asked about his homework, Tim said a giant squid gobbled up his book bag!

Tim’s Dilemma

Tim’s parents thought he was making up stories, so they told him to rake leaves and think about his actions. Tim wondered if he should start telling lies to avoid trouble. But then, something amazing happened!

The Big Surprise

Tim decided to invite all the strange creatures to his house for a party. He wrote letters to the ninja, astronaut, giant squid, pirate, sunburned crocodile, and time-traveling monkey. The next day, they all showed up at Tim’s door!

The Truth Comes Out

Tim’s parents were shocked to see all the creatures. They realized Tim had been telling the truth all along. They apologized and promised him lots of ice cream. Tim was so happy!

The Best Party Ever

After cleaning the yard, Tim and his new friends had the best party ever. No one ate all the cake, no one took anything without asking, and everyone had a great time. It was a day to remember!

The Lesson

So, what’s the lesson from Tim’s story? It’s important to tell the truth, even if it sounds unbelievable. Sometimes, amazing things really do happen!

Thanks for joining us for this fun story. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. See you next time for more adventures!

  • What would you do if you saw something unbelievable, like a ninja or an astronaut, and no one believed you? How would you try to convince them?
  • Have you ever told a story that seemed too amazing to be true? What happened, and how did people react?
  • If you could invite any imaginary creature or character to a party, who would you invite and why? What fun things would you do together?
  1. Story Detective: Imagine you are a detective like Tim. Look around your home or classroom and find something that seems out of place or missing. Create your own fun and wild story about what might have happened to it. Share your story with a friend or family member and see if they can guess what really happened!

  2. Truth or Tale: With a partner, take turns telling each other two short stories: one that is true and one that is made up. Try to make both stories sound believable. After each story, your partner will guess which one is true. This will help you practice telling the truth and recognizing when others are telling the truth too!

  3. Creature Creation: Draw a picture of one of the creatures from Tim’s story or invent your own creature that could be part of Tim’s adventures. Think about what special abilities or characteristics your creature might have. Share your drawing with the class and explain what role your creature would play in Tim’s story.

Hi, I’m Ryan.

And I’m Greg.

Today on Storytime with Ryan and Craig, we’re reading “The Boy Who Cried Ninja” by Alex Latimer.

Once there was a boy named Tim who no one believed. When his mom asked him what happened to the last slice of cake, he told her the truth: it was a ninja!

First, the ninja crept into the house and kicked it into the air. Wow, it ate it!

When his dad asked him where the hammer was, he told him the truth: an astronaut landed in the yard and needed to fix his spaceship. He’s got your hammer!

And when his grandpa asked him if he’d done his homework, Tim told him the truth: a giant squid ate his whole book bag!

Tim’s parents were very upset with him for telling lies. They told him to go rake up leaves in the yard and think about what he’d done. But the more he thought about it, the more he considered that maybe he should lie so no one would be mad at him.

The next time a pirate jumped out of the cupboard and drank all the tea straight from the pot, he owned up. And the next time a sunburned crocodile landed on the roof and accidentally broke the TV antenna, he confessed.

Then, when a time-traveling monkey appeared on top of the TV and started throwing pencils at grandpa while he was sleeping, Tim said it was all his fault.

Wait, so Tim wasn’t lying, and all those things really did happen?

Exactly!

And a swarm of bees made me their king!

That’s impossible!

Ryan, you’re not the king of all bees.

Oh yeah?

But none of that helped. Tim’s parents told him to go water the vegetable garden and think about all the bad things he’d done. If he told the truth, he was in trouble, and if he lied, he was in trouble. What could he do?

Then he had an idea. He bounced some paper and stamps and wrote six letters:

“Dear You, there is a party at my house tomorrow. There will be plenty of skateboards, my new book bag, but please keep the TV antennas and pencils. Please come!”

The next day was Saturday. Dad was fixing the house, grandpa was reading the newspaper, and mom was vacuuming.

Then the doorbell rang!

Tim rushed to the door and saw a line of strange creatures: first a ninja, then an astronaut, a giant squid, a pirate, a sunburned crocodile, and a time-traveling monkey!

Tim’s parents realized he had been trying to tell the truth all along. They said sorry and promised to buy him a hundred ice creams. As for the rest of them, they were very upset and told Tim to go rake all the leaves in the yard and think about what he’d done.

Ryan, that’s weird!

You know how there’s like some cool stuff in that picture?

Yeah, lots of fun!

Anyway, my first decree as king of the bees is to stop it!

Ryan, stop!

Honey for everyone!

When they had cleaned the whole yard, there really was a party, and no one ate all the cake, no one took anything without asking, no one swallowed a book bag, no one drank all the tea, no one broke the antenna, and no one threw pencils.

It was the best party Tim had ever had!

The end.

Ryan, I’m so confused. What’s the moral?

Yeah, what’s the second decree of the king of the bees?

No more stinging!

Come on, you could get that to happen!

Third, stinging is back on the table!

Okay!

So, “The Boy Who Cried Ninja” by Alex Latimer. Thanks for watching Storytime with Ryan and Craig. We’ll see you next time!

Oh yeah! Whoa!
