Choo Choo! Off We Go!

The steam train zoomed down the railroad tracks. Suddenly, a strong wind started to blow. But the steam train wasn’t scared. “I’m not afraid of the wind!” it said bravely. Then, boom boom! Thunder roared in the sky. “I’m not afraid of thunder either!” said the steam train, chugging along.

Rain, Rain, Go Away!

Next, the rain started to pour down. Drip drip! But the steam train kept going. “I’m not afraid of the rain!” it said. Finally, the rain and wind stopped, and the sun came out. A beautiful rainbow appeared in the sky. “I made it!” cheered the steam train. “You did great!” said the car. “Thank you, brave steam train!”

Helping Friends in Need

Later, the steam train heard someone calling for help. A car had a flat tire. “No problem!” said the steam train. It used a wrench to fix the tire. “All done!” said the steam train with a smile.

Be Brave and Help Others!

Just like the steam train and the rescue teams, we can all be brave and help our friends. Whether it’s fixing a flat tire or cheering someone up, helping others makes us feel good inside. Let’s be brave and kind every day!

Discussion Questions

  • Can you think of a time when you helped someone or someone helped you? How did it make you feel?
  • If you were part of a rescue team, what special skills or tools would you like to have to help others?
  • What do you think makes someone brave? Can you share a story about a time you were brave or saw someone else being brave?

Lesson Activities

  1. Build Your Own Train: Gather some building blocks or recycled materials like cardboard boxes and tubes. Encourage the children to build their own steam train. Ask them to think about what their train would need to help others, just like the steam train in the story. Once they have built their train, have them share how their train can help someone in need.

  2. Weather Adventure Walk: Take the children on a short walk outside, if possible. Ask them to observe the weather and imagine they are the brave steam train. What challenges might they face? Is it windy, sunny, or rainy? Encourage them to think about how they would overcome these challenges and help others, just like the steam train did.

  3. Role-Playing Rescue Team: Set up a simple obstacle course or play area where children can role-play being part of a rescue team. Provide props like toy cars, ropes, or small tools. Encourage them to act out scenarios where they help a friend in need, such as fixing a flat tire or finding a lost toy. Discuss how it feels to help others and why it’s important to be brave and kind.
