We Can Tell the Time!

Now we’ve learned to tell the time! Isn’t that great? We can look at the clock and know what time it is. The clock keeps saying tick tock, tick tock, tick tock, and now we know what it means!

Keep practicing, and soon you’ll be a time-telling expert!

  • What is your favorite time of the day and why? Can you think of something special you do at that time?
  • Have you ever noticed a clock at home or school? What does it look like, and how does it help you know what time it is?
  • Can you think of a time when you were waiting for something exciting to happen? How did you know when it was time for it to start?
  1. Make Your Own Clock: Let’s create a clock! Use a paper plate as the clock face. Write the numbers 1 to 12 around the edge. Cut out two arrows from colored paper for the hour and minute hands. Attach them to the center of the plate with a paper fastener so they can move. Now, practice setting different times on your clock. Can you show 3:00? How about 6:30?

  2. Time Hunt: Look around your house for different clocks. How many can you find? Are they all the same? Do they all show the same time? Take note of the times you see and try to say them out loud. For example, “It’s 2:15 on the kitchen clock!”

  3. Time Telling Game: Ask a family member to call out a time, like 4:30 or 7:15. Use your homemade clock to show that time. Then, switch roles and you call out a time for them to show. See how many times you can get right!
