Hi there, friends! Today, we’re going to read a fun story called “The Adventures of Be, the Unimaginary Friend” by Dan Sant. Are you ready to start the adventure?
Once upon a time, on a faraway island, imaginary friends were made. These friends lived and played happily, waiting for a real child to imagine them. Do you have an imaginary friend? What is their name?
Every night, one special friend named Be looked up at the stars, hoping a child would imagine him and give him a special name. He waited and waited, but no child picked him. Be wondered what exciting things were keeping his friend from imagining him. So, he decided to do something amazing!
Be sailed across the big, wide ocean, facing many scary things. But he was brave because he thought about his friend. Finally, he reached the real world! It was a strange place. No kids were eating cake, no one stopped to listen to music, and everyone needed a nap!
Be looked around and saw something that felt familiar. He followed it, hoping to find his friend. He climbed a tall tree and looked out, wishing and hoping. But still, no friend came. Be felt very sad.
Then, Be heard a noise below. “Hello!” It was a friendly face with a note just for him! Her name was Alice, and she seemed just right. At first, they didn’t know what to do because neither had made a friend before. But soon, they realized they were perfect together!
“I’m Be,” he said. “I’m Alice,” she replied. They had lots of fun adventures together. They shared snacks, told funny jokes, and the world felt a little less strange. Together, they did amazing things!
We hope you loved “The Adventures of Be” as much as we did! Come back soon for more fun stories. Bye for now!
Create Your Own Imaginary Friend: Use your imagination to create your own imaginary friend just like Be! Draw a picture of them and give them a special name. Think about what they like to do and where they might live. Share your drawing and story with the class. What adventures might you and your imaginary friend go on together?
Starry Night Adventure: Just like Be looked up at the stars, let’s create our own starry night sky. Use black or dark blue paper and stick small star stickers or draw stars with white crayons. Imagine what Be might have seen in the sky. Can you find any shapes or patterns in your stars? Share your starry sky with a friend and tell them about the adventures Be might have had under those stars.
Friendship Circle: Sit in a circle with your classmates and talk about what makes a good friend. Just like Be and Alice became friends, think about how you can be a good friend to someone. Share a story about a time you made a new friend or did something nice for someone. What did you learn from that experience? How can you make sure everyone feels included and happy?
Sure! Here’s a sanitized version of the transcript:

Hey everyone, welcome to Story Time! Today we’re going to be reading “The Adventures of Be, the Unimaginary Friend” by Dan Sant. Shall we get started?
**The Adventures of Be, the Unimaginary Friend**
He was born on an island far away where imaginary friends were created. Here, they lived and played, each eagerly waiting to be imagined by a real child. Do you have an imaginary friend? What’s his or her name?
Every night, he stood under the stars, hoping for his turn to be picked by a child and given a special name. He waited for many nights, but his turn never came. His mind filled with thoughts of all the amazing things that were keeping his friend from imagining him. So rather than waiting, he did the unimaginable.
He sailed through unknown waters and faced many scary things, but thinking about his friend gave him the courage to journey on until he reached the real world. The real world was a strange place—no kids were eating cake, no one stopped to hear the music, and everyone needed nap time.
Then he finally saw something familiar, so he followed. He had a good feeling about this place, but he looked everywhere and could not find his friend. He climbed to the top of a tree and looked out, wishing and hoping his friend would come, but no one came. He thought about how far he had come and how long he had waited, and he felt very sad.
Then he heard a noise below. “Hello!” Oh look, she has a note for him! Her face was friendly and familiar, and there was something about her that felt just right. At first, they weren’t sure what to do; neither of them had made a friend before. But after a little while, they realized they were perfect together.
“I’m Be,” he said. “I’m Alice.” They had many new adventures together. They shared snacks, told funny jokes, and the world began to feel a little less strange. Together, they did the unimaginable.
