Today, we’re reading a fun book called “The Adventures of Camellia in the Rainforest.” It was written by Deborah L. Witter and has beautiful pictures by Daniela Fronds. Let’s dive into the story!
Camellia’s grandma asked her, “Who is going with you on your adventure tonight?” Camellia replied excitedly, “Otto and Q-Tip are coming with me! I just can’t wait!”
“Good night, Mimi! I love you,” Camellia said as she blew her grandma a kiss. She closed her eyes, and the moonlight lit up her room.
Suddenly, Camellia found herself in a magical rainforest! She was standing in warm water, and a funny-looking animal splashed her with his whiskers. “Welcome to my magical rainforest!” said Otto, the giant otter. “I will take you on an adventure like you’ve never seen before!”
Camellia listened to the music of the forest, hearing the grass swaying and birds chirping. She saw frogs, snails, lizards, spiders, and insects all around her. “This is going to be my best adventure ever!” she shouted.
“Let’s find my friend Q-Tip to join us,” Otto said. Camellia spotted a tiny creature and exclaimed, “Look, Otto! There’s a very weird little squirrel over there!”
“That’s not a squirrel, that’s Q-Tip!” Otto laughed. “Hi, I’m Q-Tip, but you can call me Cutie!” said the tiny monkey, munching on a large leaf.
Q-Tip explained, “The rainforest is the wettest place on Earth and home to thousands of birds, hundreds of mammals, and more butterflies than you can count!”
Camellia saw the biggest trees ever and climbed their tangled branches. “This is so much fun!” she shouted joyfully.
As they traveled, they saw dark eyes peeking through the leaves. “Come out, come out, wherever you are!” Camellia said playfully. A large spotted cat appeared and said, “I’m not a cat at all. I’m a jaguar.”
Camellia invited the jaguar to join their adventure. “Please don’t tell anyone, but I’m not a good jaguar. I like to play, swim, and eat only vegetables,” the jaguar said sweetly.
Otto and Q-Tip welcomed the jaguar to their adventure. “The rainforest is called the lungs of our planet,” Otto said proudly.
Camellia suggested building a raft to cool off. They gathered materials and built their very first raft. As they floated down the river, they saw children playing on the shore. “Look, everyone! There are children just like me!” Camellia exclaimed.
Q-Tip explained that the children belonged to the OMA tribe, and sadly, there were only a few hundred people left in the forest because of deforestation.
Camellia was excited to meet her new friends and promised to return one day. As night fell, the rainforest buzzed with sounds. “I love your rainforest world! I want to come back again and again,” Camellia said as she rubbed her tired eyes.
“You’ve met many of us today, but there are many more friends for you to meet,” Q-Tip said warmly. Camellia nodded as her eyes grew heavy, and she slowly began to close them.

Rainforest Sound Hunt: Go outside or open a window and listen carefully to the sounds around you. Can you hear birds chirping, leaves rustling, or any other nature sounds? Try to mimic these sounds using your voice or simple instruments like a drum or a shaker. Discuss with your friends or family how these sounds might be similar to those in a rainforest.
Create Your Own Rainforest: Use craft materials like paper, crayons, and glue to create a mini rainforest scene. Include trees, animals like jaguars and otters, and maybe even a river. Think about what colors and shapes you see in the rainforest and try to include them in your artwork. Share your rainforest with your class and explain what animals and plants you included.
Rainforest Role Play: Pretend you are one of the animals or people living in the rainforest. What would your day be like? What would you eat, and where would you sleep? Act out a short scene with your friends or family, showing what you might do in a day in the rainforest. Discuss what makes the rainforest a special place to live.

Today’s book is “The Adventures of Camellia in the Rainforest,” written by Deborah L. Witter and illustrated by Daniela Fronds. Let’s get started!
Camellia’s grandmother asked her, “Who is going with you on your adventure tonight?” Camellia replied, “Otto and Q-Tip are coming with me! I just can’t wait!”
“Good night, Mimi! I love you. Sweet dreams, little Camellia. Sleep tight and safe travels to you all.” Camellia blew her grandma a kiss and closed her eyes as the moonlight lit up her room.
“Camellia reporting for service!” she said to the creature whose head popped out of the water in front of her, splashing her with his whiskers. Camellia smiled back at the funny-looking animal while she wiped the wet drops from her face. She was standing knee-deep in warm water in the most extraordinary land she had ever seen.
“Welcome to my magical rainforest!” said Otto, the giant otter. “I will take you on an adventure like you’ve never seen before, that is if I can remember which way to go.”
“Shh, listen, Camellia,” Otto whispered. “There’s magic all around us.” Camellia listened to the music of the forest, the grass swaying, and the sounds of birds chirping.
Suddenly, loud screeching sounds came from the trees as frogs, snails, lizards, spiders, and insects of all shapes and sizes began to appear. The more Camellia listened, the more she seemed to hear.
“This is going to be my best adventure ever!” Camellia shouted.
“Of course it will be!” Otto replied. “First, let’s go find my buddy Q-Tip to join us on this journey. She’s a very good tour guide.”
“What is a rainforest?” Camellia asked curiously. Before Otto could respond, Camellia caught a glimpse of a tiny creature.
“Look, Otto! There’s a very weird little squirrel over there!”
“That’s not a squirrel, that’s Q-Tip!” Otto said.
“Hi, I’m Q-Tip, but you can call me Cutie!” the tiny monkey said, munching on a large leaf.
“The rainforest is the wettest place on Earth and home to thousands of species of birds, hundreds of mammals, many species of turtles, and more butterflies than the eye can see,” Q-Tip explained.
Camellia spotted the biggest trees she had ever seen and ran over to climb its tangled branches. “This is so much fun!” she shouted joyfully.
As they traveled, they saw dark eyes peeking out through the leaves. “Come out, come out, wherever you are!” Camellia said playfully.
Suddenly, a large tan spotted cat moved slowly within the forest. “I’m not a cat at all,” the creature said. “I’m a jaguar.”
Camellia introduced herself and invited the jaguar to join their adventure.
“Please don’t tell anyone, but I’m not a good jaguar at all. I prefer to play, swim, and eat only vegetables,” the jaguar said sweetly.
Otto and Q-Tip welcomed the jaguar to their adventure.
“The rainforest is called the lungs of our planet,” Otto stated proudly. “Generations of giant otters have been around for millions of years.”
As they continued their journey, Camellia suggested building a raft to cool off. They gathered materials and built their very first raft.
As they floated down the river, they saw children playing on the shore. “Look, everyone! There are children just like me!” Camellia exclaimed.
Q-Tip explained that the children belonged to the OMA tribe, and sadly, there were only a few hundred people left in the forest due to deforestation.
The end.
