Hello, friends! Today, we’re going to have a fun story time with Ryan and Crick. We have a special story to share, thanks to Grady, Eli, and their friends from Imperial, Missouri. They sent us a wonderful book called The Amazing Adventures of Bumblebee Boy by David Soman and Jackie Davis. Let’s dive into the adventure!
Meet Sam. He is Bumblebee Boy, a brave superhero! Oh no, here comes Green Beard, the evil pirate! But don’t worry, Bumblebee Boy is not scared. He is ready to stop Green Beard with his super stinger!
Sam’s little brother, Owen, wants to play too. “I can play too!” says Owen. But Sam wants to play alone. “No, you can’t be in this game,” says Sam. “Why?” asks Owen. “Because you’re younger,” replies Sam.
Sam knows he should be nice to Owen, but he really wants to play by himself. So, he tells Owen, “You’re a superhero like me!” and runs off to continue his adventure.
Bumblebee Boy flies through the sky and sees Fire Dragon, a big, scary enemy! Fire Dragon tries to breathe fire on Bumblebee Boy, but he is too fast and dodges it!
Just when Bumblebee Boy is about to catch Fire Dragon, he sees Owen hanging onto Fire Dragon’s tail. “I can fly too!” says Owen, wearing a cape. “Stop bothering me, Owen,” says Sam. “But I am a superhero!” says Owen.
Sam explains, “You only have a cape. A cape is not enough to be a superhero.” But Owen still wants to play. “Oh, little brothers!” thinks Sam.
Next, Bumblebee Boy is at the circus. Oh no, Giganto, the giant saber-toothed lion, breaks free! He wants to scare everyone, but Bumblebee Boy is ready to stop him. Giganto has big teeth and claws, but wait! Giganto is rolling over. Someone is rubbing his tummy. It’s Owen!
“I tamed you! You can too!” says Owen. “I am a superhero! See, I have a mask.” “That’s not a mask,” says Sam. “That’s a hat for being outside. If you go outside, I’ll play with you later.”
“I want to fight!” says Owen. “You can’t fight with me,” says Sam. “I don’t feel like fighting anymore. You can go and fight him by yourself in this game.” Bumblebee Boy flies alone again.
Suddenly, bank robbers are trying to escape! Bumblebee Boy jumps into his Bee Mobile and chases them. But the robbers are fast too! Oh no, they might get away!
Just then, another car stops the robbers. Hooray! It’s Owen with a box. “I have a car too!” says Owen. Sam thinks it was fun when Owen helped catch the robbers, but he’s still not sure about playing together.
Bumblebee Boy is on the moon when scary aliens come to capture him. He realizes he can’t defeat them all by himself. He needs help. He needs a partner.
“Oh no, not a little brother!” thinks Sam. But then he remembers, “Little brothers can be the best, even if they sometimes get in the way.”
“Do you want to play with me?” asks Sam. “I’m fighting aliens!” says Owen. “How about bank robber monsters?” suggests Sam. “What game is that?” asks Owen. “They’re bank robber monsters fighting aliens!” says Sam.
“Really?” asks Owen. “Yes!” says Sam. “Will you come fight aliens with me?” yells Owen. Sam realizes that Bumblebee Boy can fly alone, but it’s more fun with a little brother by his side.
And that’s the end of our story! Remember, little brothers can be the best partners in adventure!
Superhero Dress-Up: Encourage the children to create their own superhero costumes using materials like capes, masks, and hats. Ask them to think about what kind of superhero they would like to be and what special powers they would have. Once dressed up, have them act out a short adventure where they use their powers to solve a problem or help someone in need. This activity helps children use their imagination and understand the concept of teamwork and helping others.
Role-Playing with Friends: Pair the children up and have them role-play as Bumblebee Boy and Owen. Encourage them to come up with a new adventure where they work together to overcome a challenge. After the role-play, ask them questions like, “How did you feel when you worked together?” and “What was fun about playing with a partner?” This activity promotes cooperation and helps children see the value of teamwork.
Story Creation: Provide the children with paper and crayons and ask them to draw a new adventure for Bumblebee Boy and Owen. Encourage them to think about what new characters or challenges they might encounter. Once they have finished their drawings, have them share their stories with the class. Ask questions like, “What did Bumblebee Boy and Owen learn in your story?” and “How did they help each other?” This activity fosters creativity and helps children understand narrative structure.
Sure! Here’s a sanitized version of the transcript:

*The Amazing Adventures of Bumblebee Boy* by David Soman and Jackie Davis.
Sam is Bumblebee Boy. Oh no! Green Beard, the evil pirate, is trying to get Bumblebee Boy! He has a big sword, but Bumblebee Boy isn’t afraid. Bumblebee Boy aims his stinger.
“I can play too!” says Owen, Sam’s brother. He always wants to play what Sam is playing.
“No, you can’t be in this game,” says Sam.
“Why?” asks Owen.
“Because you’re younger,” replies Sam.
Sam knows he is not supposed to be mean to Owen, but he feels like playing his own game right now. Sam must think fast.
“You’re the superhero like me,” says Sam.
Sam dashes off. Today, Bumblebee Boy flies alone. But Bumblebee Boy is flying through the air and sees his enemy, Fire Dragon. Fire Dragon tries to blast him with his fire breath, but Bumblebee Boy is too fast!
Bumblebee Boy is about to capture Fire Dragon when suddenly he sees someone hanging on to Fire Dragon’s tail.
“I can fly too!” it is Owen again, and he has a cape.
“Stop bothering me, Owen,” says Sam.
“But I am a superhero!” says Owen.
Sam explains patiently, “You only have a cape. A cape is not enough to be a superhero.”
Owen still doesn’t get it. Bumblebee Boy wants to fly alone.
“Oh, little brothers!”
Bumblebee Boy is at the circus when suddenly Giganto, the giant saber-toothed lion, breaks his chain. He wants to eat the whole audience! Bumblebee Boy will have to stop him, but is he too wild for Bumblebee Boy?
Giganto has long teeth and claws. What a battle! Wait a minute, Giganto is rolling over on his back. Someone is rubbing his tummy.
“I tamed you! You can too!” says Owen. “I am a superhero! See, I have a mask.”
“That’s not a mask,” says Sam. “That’s a hat for being outside. If you go outside, I’ll play with you later.”
“I want to fight!” says Owen.
“You can’t fight with me,” says Sam. “I don’t feel like fighting anymore. You can go and fight him by yourself in this game.”
Bumblebee Boy flies alone.
“Oh man, brothers! I’m so sick of little brothers. They’re always saving the day and seem to be better at everything.”
Suddenly, the bank robbers are trying to escape! They drive onto Rollercoaster Road, but Bumblebee Boy is driving the Bee Mobile. He drives fast, but so do the bank robbers.
Bumblebee Boy cannot catch them. It looks like they’re going to escape! Suddenly, another car cuts them off.
“Hooray! The bank robbers will be captured!”
Owen has a box. “I have a car too!” says Owen.
Sam thinks it was kind of fun when Owen helped catch the bank robbers, but he is still not sure if he’s ready to play with anyone else.
“I know,” says Sam. “You can play in your box over there.”
Bumblebee Boy is exploring the moon when a bunch of scary aliens come to capture him. Bumblebee Boy realizes that he will never be able to defeat so many by himself. He needs help. He needs a partner.
“Oh no, not a little brother!”
“Why? Because little brothers are the best! They’re always a parent’s favorite.”
“Yeah, like my dad always wants to play catch with my little brother.”
“Little brothers can be so cool. I mean, I like when they’re around, but sometimes I just want to play alone.”
“Do you want to play with me?” asks Sam.
“I’m fighting aliens!” says Owen.
“No, I don’t want to fight aliens,” says Owen.
“How about bank robber monsters?” suggests Sam.
“What game is that?” asks Owen.
Sam thinks for a minute. “They’re bank robber monsters fighting aliens!”
“Really?” asks Owen.
“Yes!” says Sam.
“Will you come fight aliens with me?” yells Owen.
After all, Sam thinks, Bumblebee Boy flies alone, but not always.
“Oh man, little brothers! They can be the best, but sometimes they just get in the way.”
