Welcome to Storytime!

Hi everyone! Welcome back to the Storytime Family. How are you doing today? Have you gone on any trips recently? Maybe you’ve flown on a plane or visited family you haven’t seen in a while. Traveling is so exciting, isn’t it?

The Boy Who Wondered

Today, we have a special story called “The Boy Who Wondered” by Mark Stark. Let’s dive into the adventure!

A World of Wonder

There was a boy who loved to wonder about everything! He thought about big things and small things, like beaches and balloons, and even chatty baboons. He imagined people and animals, and faraway places and places nearby.

Old and New Adventures

He wondered about things that are old and new, and having a lot or just a little. He dreamed of traveling and finding treasures, and meeting new friends and family.

Flying and Creating

He imagined flying with birds and making up amazing words. He thought about talking without using words and drawing with chalk on sidewalks in cities from long ago. He even imagined learning in fun ways, like rhyming classes!

Magic of the Night

He dreamed of tribes dancing around a fire and people walking in the desert. He loved the idea of voices playing with purpose. He imagined the magic of night, with colors that make you happy, and touching the sky, sun, and stars. He dreamed of moving faster than the fastest cars and exploring beyond our world.

Dreams and Possibilities

He wondered about sleep and dreams, and all the possibilities they bring. He thought about choices and realities, and how things move and change. He imagined being part of all these things while enjoying some yummy dumplings!

Seeing and Being

He dreamed of new ways to see the world and just be himself. He thought about smiling at everyone he meets and seeing the goodness in their hearts.

  • What are some things you like to wonder about? Do you ever imagine going on adventures like the boy in the story?
  • Have you ever traveled to a new place or met someone new? How did it make you feel, and what did you learn from the experience?
  • If you could fly like a bird or create something amazing, what would you choose to do and why?
  1. Wonder Walk: Go on a short walk around your neighborhood or a nearby park with a family member or friend. As you walk, look around and wonder about the things you see. Ask yourself questions like, “Why is the sky blue?” or “How do birds fly?” Share your thoughts and questions with your walking partner. When you return, draw a picture of something you wondered about and write a sentence or two about it.

  2. Imagination Station: Create a “Wonder Box” using a small box or container. Fill it with objects from around your home that make you curious, like a seashell, a feather, or a small toy. Each day, pick one item from the box and think about what makes it special or interesting. Write down or draw your thoughts in a “Wonder Journal.” Share your favorite wonderings with your family at dinner.

  3. Storytime Creations: After listening to “The Boy Who Wondered,” think about your own story of wonder. What would you wonder about if you could go anywhere or do anything? Draw a picture of your adventure and write a short story to go with it. Share your story with your class or family and ask them what they wonder about too!

There was a boy who wondered of old and new, and plenty and few, of travels and treasures, and yet to meet friends and family. There was a boy who wondered of flying with birds and creating fantastic words, of talking without talk and sidewalk chalk forgotten in cities lost in time, and classes taught in rhyme.

There was a boy who wondered of tribes dancing before a fire, of Bedouins walking in desert attire, of voices playing purposefully. There was a boy who wandered off into the magic of night and colors that delight, of touching the sky, the sun, the stars, of moving faster than the fastest of cars, of living without age and exploring beyond this world stage.

There was a boy who wondered of sleep and dreams and possibilities, and the nature of choice and realities, of movements and currents and directions and intersections. There was a boy who wondered of being part of these things while enjoying some dumplings.

There was a boy who wondered of new ways to see and to simply be, of smiling at every person you greet and seeing the heart of everyone you meet.
