Once upon a time, in a beautiful city called Calamead, there was a big celebration happening. The city was next to a sparkling lake, with houses surrounded by rocks, trees, and waterfalls. It was the day of the spring fair, and everyone was invited! Fairies, pixies, dwarves, and elves with pointy ears came to dance and enjoy yummy food.
Suddenly, a huge red dragon, as long as a snake, appeared! Everyone got scared and shouted, “Run! Dragons breathe fire!” But the dragon just wanted to talk. Feeling sad, he turned around and left. Beatrice, a kind and curious pixie, was upset. She believed in getting to know someone before judging them.
Pixies are tiny magical creatures with big ears and greenish skin. They love taking care of the forest and playing tricks. Dwarves are small, clever beings who are great at inventing things. Beatrice knew a funny dwarf named Jeffrey, who was never grumpy. She thought, if people were wrong about dwarves, maybe they were wrong about dragons too!
Beatrice decided to find the dragon. She followed his big footprints in the mud and heard him crying. The dragon was trapped in a cage! Beatrice promised to help him and invited him to the fair. The dragon was happy because he didn’t have any friends.
Dragons are magical creatures with wings and legs, and they usually breathe fire. But this dragon had a special surprise! When Beatrice and the dragon saw smoke in the distance, they realized Calamead was on fire!
The dragon flew to the lake, scooped up water, and blew bubbles instead of fire! The bubbles put out the fire, and everyone cheered. They thanked the dragon for saving the city.
Fairies are magical beings with wings, and they love nature. Elves have pointy ears and can live for a very long time. They are smart and lively.
In the end, the people of Calamead learned not to judge others without knowing them. They apologized to the dragon and invited him to join the fun. The dragon played the saxophone, and when the children tickled him, bubbles came out, making everyone laugh.
This story teaches us to be like Beatrice and give everyone a chance because everyone is unique and special in their own way.
Dragon Role-Play: Gather your friends or family and act out the story of the Calamead Dragon. Take turns playing different characters like Beatrice, the dragon, and the townspeople. Think about how each character feels and why it’s important to get to know someone before judging them. After the role-play, discuss how it felt to be each character and what you learned about respect and understanding.
Respectful Creatures Craft: Create your own magical creature using craft supplies like paper, markers, and glue. Give your creature a name and think about what makes it special. Write a short story about how your creature helps others and shows respect, just like the dragon did. Share your story with your class or family and talk about why respecting others is important.
Observation Walk: Go on a walk with a parent or teacher and observe the people and animals around you. Notice how everyone is different and unique. Think about how you can show respect to others, just like Beatrice did with the dragon. After your walk, draw a picture or write a few sentences about someone or something you saw that was special and how you can show them respect.

[Music] Kalamed was a lovely city on the shores of a lake. Its houses were nestled amongst the rocks and trees, surrounded by waterfalls. That day, they were celebrating the spring fair, and all the woodland creatures were invited: fairies, pixies, dwarves, and elves with pointy ears. They all danced and ate to their hearts’ content when suddenly, an enormous red dragon, long as a snake, arrived.
“He’s going to attack us! Run for your lives! Dragons breathe fire! All is lost!” The dragon opened his mouth, but they wouldn’t let him speak. The sad dragon turned slowly and left. Beatrice couldn’t believe her eyes; she was angry. She was a young and sweet-tempered pixie who liked to get to know people before believing what others said about them.
[Music] Pixies are small legendary creatures with large elongated ears and greenish skin. They take care of the woodland and nature and are usually great pranksters.
[Music] “You’re not being fair! Everyone in the kingdom is invited to the spring fair. Everyone! Everyone knows dragons; you can’t trust them. Do you know what everyone says about dwarves? They say they’re all grumpy, but the ones I know aren’t.” Beatrice didn’t let him answer. Everyone knew that Jeffrey the dwarf was a joker and very clever; he was never grumpy. If what people thought about the dwarves wasn’t true, maybe what they thought about the dragons wasn’t true either. Dwarves are supernatural creatures that look like people but are much smaller. They’re extremely intelligent and very clever, making them great inventors.
[Music] Beatrice left the fair. She loved the woodland and took care of it, but she wanted to find the dragon. She searched for him in the woods but couldn’t find him. Where could he be? He was humongous! Then she saw his tracks in the mud and followed them. After a while, Beatrice heard some whimpering. She crept over and found the dragon trapped in a cage with thick metal bars; he’d fallen into a trap.
[Music] “Don’t be afraid; I’m going to help you get out of here, and when you’re out, you’ll come with me to the fair.” “Thank you! Everyone runs away from me when they see me; that’s why I don’t have any friends.” The pixie used a branch to free the dragon. Then, in the distance, they saw a billowing smoke cloud—Kalamed was on fire!
“Dragons are legendary creatures; they are serpentine-shaped with legs and wings to fly. They usually breathe fire.”
[Music] “It’s worse than I thought! It’s the end of Kalamed! This is horrible!” “Don’t be afraid; I’ll put out the fire.” “But don’t dragons bring fire?” The dragon flew to the lake and fetched a ton of water. He flew back to the fire and blew hard, and no fire or water came out of his mouth—out popped bubbles! They put out the fire.
[Music] Fairies are legendary beings often represented as beautiful women. They have wings they use to fly, and they live in the woods, being in close contact with nature. Everyone clapped wildly; they came over to thank the dragon for what he’d done. Kalamed was safe thanks to him.
“I’m sorry we distrusted you. I guess not all dragons are alike. I won’t judge anyone before knowing more about them again.” “I’m so happy everything turned out fine! Let’s continue with the fair!” They all thought it was a great idea. Music and fun returned to Kalamed. They convinced the dragon to play the saxophone, and children crowded around him. They tickled him, and bubbles came out of his instrument. He was happy to have new friends.
Elves are supernatural creatures with pointy ears; they can live for thousands of years or be immortal. They’re usually very sprightly and intelligent.
[Music] In this story, we’ve seen how they threw out the dragon because they thought he breathed fire. This particular dragon breathed bubbles, not fire. Everyone at the fair had judged him without knowing him. It’s easy to criticize people and judge them based on things we’ve heard about them, but it’s important to act like Beatrice. Since everyone is different, everyone deserves a chance.
