In “The Manic Panic!”, a family’s day is turned upside down when the internet goes down, causing initial chaos and frustration. However, the child takes charge by reminding everyone of the joys of exploring the world outside, leading the family to enjoy a perfect day together despite the lack of Wi-Fi. Ultimately, they find happiness in simple pleasures, highlighting the importance of disconnecting and appreciating the moment.
  1. How did the family feel when the internet stopped working?
  2. What fun ideas did you think of to help your family enjoy the day without the internet?
  3. Why do you think it was important for you to remind your family about exploring the world outside?

The Manic Panic!

Imagine a regular day at home. Everything is calm and normal. But what happens when the internet stops working? Oh no! Everyone starts to panic!

The Internet Goes Down

“What’s wrong with the Wi-Fi?” Mommy will ask, worried. “It’s down!” Daddy will shout. Nana might even smile and say, “Good riddance!” It might seem a little funny to you.

Time for Fun Ideas

While everyone else is upset, you have lots of fun ideas for things to do. But they all keep saying, “But the Wi-Fi!”

Taking Charge

This is when you decide to take charge. You tell Mommy and Daddy, “It’s not the end of the world! When you were my age, there was no internet!” They will be so surprised that they won’t blink for a long time.

Exploring the World

You will remind them of the big, wide world outside waiting to be explored. You stand strong and tell them to enjoy the day. They might grumble and protest, but you know what’s best for them.

A Perfect Day

As you all enjoy the day, looking at clouds, feeling the breeze, and seeing the trees, you realize how perfect it is. When you get back home, the Wi-Fi is still down, but now everyone is happy and relaxed.

Oops, My Book Report!

Later, you go to your room, tired but happy. You turn on your computer and suddenly remember, “Ah, my book report!” You wonder why the Wi-Fi is still down.

  1. Have you ever experienced a time when the internet stopped working at home? What did you do to have fun or pass the time?
  2. Why do you think Nana smiled and said “Good riddance” when the internet went down? How do you think people used to spend their time before the internet existed?
  3. What are some activities you enjoy doing outside or without using the internet? Can you think of a fun day plan that doesn’t involve screens?
  1. Internet-Free Adventure: Plan a day without using the internet. Make a list of fun activities you can do with your family, like playing board games, drawing, or going for a nature walk. After the day is over, discuss with your family what you enjoyed the most and how it felt to spend time together without the internet.

  2. Story Time Swap: Create your own story about a day when the internet goes down. What fun adventures would you have? Draw pictures to go along with your story. Share your story with your classmates or family and ask them to share their own stories too. This will help you see how different people can have different ideas and adventures.

  3. Observation Journal: Spend some time outside and observe the world around you. Write down or draw what you see, hear, and feel. What animals do you notice? What does the sky look like? Share your observations with your class and talk about how spending time outside can be just as exciting as being online.
