Discovering the Number One

Numbers are all around us in our world. Today, let’s learn about the number one!

What is the Number One?

The number one is the first number we use when we start counting. It’s the beginning of everything in numbers.

How to Write the Number One

Writing the number one is simple. It looks like a straight line going down. Try writing it yourself!

Finding the Number One

The number one can be found everywhere. Look around you and see if you can spot the number one. It might be on a clock, in a book, or even on a sign.

Now that you know about the number one, keep an eye out for it in your daily life. It’s fun to see how often it appears!

  1. Can you think of some things in your life that come in ones? Maybe it’s a special toy or a favorite book. Share with us what makes it special to you!
  2. Have you ever noticed the number one in places you visit, like the grocery store or the park? Where did you see it, and why do you think it’s there?
  3. Imagine if you could only have one of something for a whole day, like one cookie or one game to play. What would you choose and why?
  1. Number One Hunt: Go on a scavenger hunt around your home or classroom to find the number one. Look for it on clocks, books, or signs. Each time you find it, draw a picture of where you saw it. How many different places can you find the number one?

  2. One and Only Collection: Collect items that come in ones. For example, find one spoon, one shoe, or one apple. Arrange them in a special “Number One” corner. Talk about why each item is unique and how it represents the number one.

  3. Story Time with One: Create a short story or a drawing about a day in the life of the number one. What adventures does it have? Where does it go? Share your story with a friend or family member and see if they can add to it!
