In “The Old Lion and the Clever Fox,” an old lion, unable to hunt, devises a plan to lure animals into his den by pretending to be sick. While other animals fall for the trick, a clever fox notices the absence of those who entered and wisely refuses to go inside, ultimately saving the day. The lesson emphasizes the importance of being cautious and using intelligence to avoid danger.
  1. Why did the lion want the other animals to visit him?
  2. How did the fox figure out that the lion was tricking the animals?
  3. What can we learn from the fox’s actions in the story?

The Old Lion and the Clever Fox

Once upon a time, there was an old lion resting under the hot sun. He was very hungry but too old and slow to catch his food.

“I’m so hungry, but I can’t hunt anymore,” the lion thought sadly. “I need a plan to get some food.”

The Lion’s Trick

The lion saw a little rat passing by. “Hello, little rat,” he said. “I’m not feeling well. Can you tell everyone to come and visit this sick lion?”

The rat nodded and ran off to spread the news. “Mr. Lion is sick,” the rat told the other animals. “He wants everyone to visit him.”

The Animals Visit

The animals felt they had no choice but to visit the lion. One by one, they went to see him.

“Hello, Mr. Lion. How are you feeling?” asked the deer.

“Oh, it’s you, the deer. Please come in. I’m feeling so sick,” replied the lion.

Then the monkey came. “Hello, Mr. Lion. Are you feeling better?”

“Welcome, little monkey. Please come in,” said the lion.

But something strange happened. The animals went into the lion’s den, but none of them came back out!

The Fox’s Discovery

The clever fox noticed something odd. “Hmm, that’s strange,” he thought. “No one has returned from visiting Mr. Lion. I need to find out why.”

When the fox arrived at the lion’s den, he saw footprints going in but none coming out. “Mr. Lion, how are you feeling?” the fox called from outside.

“I feel a lot better thanks to all the animals. Please come inside,” the lion said.

“No, thank you,” said the fox. “I see footprints going in but none coming out. I don’t want to be eaten today!”

The Fox Saves the Day

Thanks to the wise fox, no animal went near the lion’s den ever again. The fox’s cleverness saved them all!

And that’s how the old lion’s trick was discovered, and the animals stayed safe.
