(bright gentle music) (raccoon giggling) – Let’s talk about the letter I! It’s a vowel, which means it can make different sounds. Isn’t that cool?
The letter I can make a short sound, like in the word “insect.” Insects are some of my favorite things!
But that’s not all! The letter I can also make a long sound, like in the word “ice cream.” Imagine an insect eating an ice cream. How funny is that?
So, remember, the letter I is special because it can sound different in words. Keep listening for those sounds when you read or talk!
Sound Hunt: Go on a sound hunt around your home or classroom. Find objects or pictures that have the short I sound, like “insect,” and the long I sound, like “ice cream.” Make a list or draw pictures of what you find. Share your discoveries with a friend or family member and see if they can guess which sound each word makes!
I Sound Sorting Game: Create two boxes or baskets labeled “Short I” and “Long I.” Gather small items or write words on cards that have either the short I or long I sound. Sort them into the correct box. For example, a picture of a fish would go in the “Short I” box, while a picture of a kite would go in the “Long I” box. See how many you can sort correctly!
Invent a Story: Use your imagination to create a short story featuring characters or things with the letter I. Try to include both short I and long I words. For example, “An insect named Izzy went on an adventure to find ice cream.” Draw pictures to go along with your story and share it with your class or family!
