Hello, friends! How are you today? Have you been reading lots of fun books? Today, the weather is a bit rainy and cold here. How is it where you are? Is it sunny and warm? I love sunny days, don’t you?
Today, we’re going to read a story called “They All Saw a Cat” by Brendan Wenzel. Are you ready? Let’s begin!
Once upon a time, a cat walked through the world with its whiskers, ears, and paws. A child saw the cat, a dog saw the cat, and a fox saw the cat. Everyone saw the cat!
The cat kept walking with its whiskers, ears, and paws. A fish saw the cat, a mouse saw the cat, and a bee saw the cat. Yes, they all saw the cat!
The cat continued its journey with its whiskers, ears, and paws. A bird saw the cat, a flea saw the cat, a snake saw the cat, a skunk saw the cat, a worm saw the cat, and a bat saw the cat. They all saw the cat!
Everyone knew the cat, and the cat knew them all. Then, the cat came to the water. What do you think it saw?
Did you see the cat too? What kind of cat did you imagine? Let us know!
Now, let’s read another story called “Hedgehog Heart” by James Antoine and Nikki Slade Robinson. Let’s see what it’s about!
This story is about a new friend named Michael. Michael’s heart is special, just like everyone’s heart. Let’s find out more!
Daddy’s heart is like a grizzly bear because he gives big bear hugs. Mommy’s heart is like an owl because she is wise and loving. Grandma’s heart is like an elephant because she never forgets you. Granddad’s heart is like a cat, shy at first, but then it purrs with love.
Mr. Wilson’s heart is like a falcon, keeping everyone safe. Aunt Class’s heart is like a drooling dog, giving slobbery kisses. My sister’s heart is like a bird, singing happily. Baby Juliet’s heart is like a puppy, always wanting love.
Some hearts are like octopuses, holding you tight. My cousin Rachel’s heart is like a monkey, playful and cheeky.
Can you guess what Michael’s heart is like? It’s a hedgehog! Sometimes it curls up, but slowly it opens up to find love.
And my heart? It’s like a lion, roaring love to everyone!
What is your heart like? We’d love to hear about it!
Thank you for reading with us today. We hope you enjoyed the stories. See you next time, and take care!
Animal Perspectives: Let’s pretend to be different animals from the story “They All Saw a Cat.” Choose an animal and think about how it might see the cat. Draw a picture of what the cat looks like to your chosen animal. For example, how would a bird see the cat from high up in the sky? Share your drawing with the class and explain your perspective.
Heart Comparisons: In “Hedgehog Heart,” different hearts are compared to animals. Think about your own heart. If your heart were an animal, what would it be? Draw a picture of your heart animal and write a sentence about why you chose that animal. Share your drawing and sentence with a friend.
Observation Walk: Go on a short walk around your home or school and observe the animals you see. How do you think these animals see the world? Do they see things differently than you do? Write down or draw what you think each animal might see. Discuss your observations with your classmates when you return.
Sure! Here’s a sanitized version of the YouTube transcript:

Today we have “Hedgehog Heart” by James Antoine and Nikki Slade Robinson. Let’s have a look.
Hedgehog Heart. Here’s my new friend Michael. I love Michael! His heart reminds me of something, but I don’t know what. Sometimes you know a person’s heart. For example,

Daddy’s heart is a grizzly bear; he gives the biggest bear hugs. Mommy’s heart is an owl; she’s so wise with her love. Grandma’s heart is an elephant; her love never forgets you. Granddad’s heart is a cat; shy at first, but then it purrs. Mr. Wilson’s heart is a falcon, keeping the whole class safe in the nest. Aunt Class’s heart is a drooling dog; she gives us slobbery kisses. My sister’s heart is a bird; it perches and sings up to the sky. Baby Juliet’s heart is a puppy; woof woof! She wants all your love.
Some people’s hearts are octopuses; they hold you tight and are good to get tangled up in. My cousin Rachel’s heart is a monkey; she’s so cheeky to the people she loves.
Can you guess what my friend Michael’s heart is? I think I know; it’s a hedgehog. Sometimes it curls up afraid in a spiky ball, and it’s hard to get close. But slowly, slowly it will uncurl, and then it forages around for pieces of love.
And my heart is a lion, roaring my love out to everyone. Hope you enjoyed “Hedgehog Heart.” What’s your heart like? Leave us a comment and tell us about your big heart.
