Hello, friends! Welcome to Circle Time with Caroline from the Khan Academy Kids team. Today, Caroline is joined by her friend Sophie. They are excited to share a fun story with you!
Caroline and Sophie are going to read a book called “County Fair” by Cynthia Platt. Have you ever been to a fair? Maybe you’ve been on rides or seen fun things there. Let’s see what happens in the story!
Kodi and Sandy are planning a big day at the County Fair. They get their tickets and are ready for fun. There are so many rides to choose from! Sandy suggests the roller coaster, but Kodi feels a bit scared.
Kodi suggests trying the Tilt-a-Whirl instead. They spin around and feel a little dizzy afterward. Then, they decide to relax on a mini train ride. It’s nice and calm, and they enjoy it.
Next, Sandy and Kodi play a game called ring toss. Kodi wins a prize, which makes them both very happy. It’s a soft, orange toy with a big smile!
After some snacks like popcorn and cotton candy, Kodi feels braver. She decides to try the roller coaster. They hop on and have an amazing time. By the end of the day, Kodi loves the roller coaster and wants to ride it again and again!
Caroline and Sophie teach us some words that start with “tr,” like trip, try, and train. They also play a fun game to find words that start with “tr” and practice spelling them.
Some friends sent in their drawings of Khan Academy Kids characters. Elia drew Reya, Eva drew Kodi, and Maria made a 3D drawing of Peck. Vithi drew all the characters, and Quillen showed a cool magic trick!
It was wonderful to see all of you today. We hope you enjoyed the story and activities. Goodbye from Caroline, Sophie, and the Khan Academy Kids team. See you next time!

Word Hunt Adventure: Go on a “tr” word hunt around your home or classroom. Look for objects or pictures that start with “tr,” like a train, truck, or tree. Can you find at least five items? Draw a picture of each item you find and practice writing the word next to it. Share your findings with a friend or family member!
Fairground Role Play: Set up a mini fairground at home with your toys. Use toy cars or blocks to create rides like a roller coaster or Tilt-a-Whirl. Invite your family or friends to join in the fun. Pretend to sell tickets, go on rides, and win prizes. Talk about how it feels to try new things, just like Kodi and Sandy did at the fair.
Bravery Badge: Think about a time when you felt brave, like Kodi did when she tried the roller coaster. Draw a picture of that moment and create a “Bravery Badge” for yourself. Decorate it with colors and stickers. Wear your badge proudly and share your story of bravery with someone special.
