Welcome to Circle Time!

Hello, friends! Welcome to Circle Time. I’m Caroline from the Khan Academy Kids Team, and I’m so happy to see you all today. I’m here with my friend Sophie. Hi, Sophie!

A Jungle Adventure with Caitie

Today, we have a fun adventure planned. We’re going to take a walk in the jungle with our friend Caitie from “Super Simple Songs” and “Caitie’s Classroom.” Let’s say hello to Caitie!

Caitie has her guitar ready, and we’re going to sing a song while we explore the jungle. Are you ready? Let’s go!

Exploring the Jungle

As we walk in the jungle, we’ll keep our eyes and ears open for all the things we might see and hear. Let’s start walking!

We hear a sound: “Ribbit, ribbit.” What could it be? It’s a frog! Can you make a sound like a frog? Ribbit, ribbit!

Next, we hear: “Hoo hoo hoo, ha ha ha ha ha.” It’s a monkey! Can you make a monkey sound? Hoo hoo hoo, ha ha ha ha ha!

Then, we hear: “Hey-ahh, hey-ahh.” It’s a toucan! Can you make a sound like a toucan? Hey-ahh, hey-ahh!

Finally, we hear a loud “Roooawr!” It’s a tiger! Let’s run away from the tiger! Whew, we’re safe now. Great job, everyone!

Talking About Jungle Animals

Did you enjoy walking in the jungle? We saw lots of animals like frogs, monkeys, toucans, and even a tiger. We also talked about a friendly lion and a toucan in a book. What sounds do these animals make?

Reading About Baby Monkeys

We read a book about baby monkeys. Did you know a baby monkey is called an infant? It clings to its mom and loves hugs. It drinks milk and eats fruits to grow strong. Monkeys are very clever and can swing from trees using their tails, feet, and hands.

Nature Walk Scavenger Hunt

Now, let’s do a nature walk scavenger hunt! You can do this at home or outside. Look for things like grass, rocks, leaves, and flowers. Sophie and I pretended to pass these items to each other. It was so much fun!

You can also do a scavenger hunt inside your house. Find things like a certificate, spices, or a sun hat. Make a list with words or pictures and see who can find all the items first.

Goodbye for Now!

It’s been wonderful spending time with you today. We hope you enjoyed our jungle adventure and scavenger hunt. From Caroline, Sophie, and the Khan Academy Kids Team, see you next time. Bye-bye!

  • What was your favorite animal sound from the jungle adventure, and can you try making that sound? Why do you think animals make these sounds?
  • Have you ever been on a nature walk or a scavenger hunt? What interesting things did you find, and how did it make you feel to explore like that?
  • If you could be any jungle animal for a day, which one would you choose and why? What fun things would you do as that animal?
  1. Animal Sound Match: Gather some friends or family members and play a fun game of “Animal Sound Match.” Each person takes turns making the sound of an animal from the jungle, like a frog, monkey, toucan, or tiger. The others have to guess which animal it is. You can even add more animals and sounds to make it more challenging. This activity helps you remember the sounds different animals make and is a great way to practice listening skills.

  2. Jungle Story Creation: Use your imagination to create a short story about a day in the jungle. Think about the animals you might meet, the sounds you would hear, and the adventures you could have. Draw pictures to go along with your story and share it with your family or friends. This activity encourages creativity and helps you think about the jungle environment and its inhabitants.

  3. Backyard Jungle Exploration: Go outside to your backyard or a nearby park and pretend it’s a jungle. Look for animals, plants, and other interesting things. Can you find something that reminds you of a jungle animal, like a bird or a bug? Take notes or draw pictures of what you find. This activity helps you observe nature closely and see how it might be similar to a jungle.
