In this lesson, students are encouraged to participate in the Sketchbook Challenge by showcasing their artistic talents through personalized sketchbook covers. This week’s theme, “Hot Dog Day,” invites them to creatively transform a simple hot dog drawing into a character or imaginative creation, fostering creativity and self-expression.
  1. What did you like most about decorating your sketchbook?
  2. How can you make your hot dog drawing special and different?
  3. What other fun things can you imagine turning into characters?

Sketchbook Fun: Hot Dog Day

Welcome to the Sketchbook Fun

Welcome to a super fun way to use your sketchbook! It’s called the Sketchbook Challenge, where friends get to show their artistic side. Last week, everyone decorated the covers of their sketchbooks. They shared their amazing designs online, and each one was unique and special!

Our Awesome Sketchbooks

We are thrilled to show you our sketchbooks, too! One of us chose a cool graffiti style for the back cover, and we both wrote our names inside. It’s so exciting to see how everyone made their sketchbooks their own.

This Week’s Fun: Hot Dog Day

Now, let’s get ready for this week’s fun theme: Hot Dog Day! Open your sketchbook to the first page and get ready to draw a hot dog. But wait, there’s a twist! You can turn your hot dog into a character, a silly monster, or anything else you can imagine.

Let Your Imagination Run Wild!

We are so excited to see all the creative hot dogs everyone will draw. So, grab your sketchbook and let your imagination run wild. Happy drawing!

  • What kind of character or creature would you like to turn your hot dog into? Why did you choose that idea?
  • Have you ever decorated something to make it your own, like the sketchbook covers? What did you decorate, and how did it make you feel?
  • Why do you think it’s fun to share your artwork with friends? How do you feel when you see what others have created?
  1. Create a Story: After drawing your hot dog character, think about what kind of adventure it might go on. Write a short story or tell a story out loud about your hot dog’s day. Where does it go? Who does it meet? What fun things happen? Share your story with a friend or family member.

  2. Hot Dog Character Parade: Organize a mini parade with your friends or family. Each person can create a hot dog character and then present it in a parade. You can make little signs with your character’s name and a fun fact about it. Take turns showing off your characters and explaining their unique traits.

  3. Observation Walk: Go on a walk around your neighborhood or a park with your sketchbook. Look for things that remind you of your hot dog character. Maybe a tree looks like a hat for your hot dog, or a cloud looks like a friend for it. Draw or write about what you see and how it connects to your character.
