Imagine waking up to the feeling of waves brushing against you, only to realize you’re a giant standing in the sea! You’re so tall that even the Statue of Liberty looks tiny compared to you. As you look around, you notice a small hot dog stand below, and when you pick it up, it fits right in your palm. Oops! You accidentally crush it.
Suddenly, you feel a slight sting on your ankle. Looking down, you see people trying to push you away while others run in fear. Some are taking pictures, and others are shouting for you to leave. You step onto the main road, accidentally crushing a car, but thankfully, no one is inside. People scatter like ants as you walk further into the city.
As you move, you notice a huge wall surrounding the city. Other giants are emerging from the sea, heading toward the barricaded city. Something mysterious is calling all of you there. People on the wall sound alarms, and many gather to defend it, while others hide.
Some giants look strange, with odd features and limbs. You almost step on someone but manage to pick her up and place her on your shoulder. As other giants pass by, they break through the wall effortlessly, causing chaos in the city. But for some reason, you snap out of the trance and decide to head back to the sea, with the woman still on your shoulder.
Reaching the deepest part of the sea, you place the woman on a small island. She can’t see the sun because your head blocks it. You leave her there for a while, trying to understand why you’re on this planet and why you wanted to save her. As night falls, you feel sleepy, and the woman falls asleep under a tree.
Suddenly, the waves become rougher, and you sense something moving in the water. It’s too dark to see, but you quickly pick up the woman and place her on your shoulder. You see other giants swimming toward you, screaming. You walk as fast as you can, disturbing the water and breaking the ocean floor.
As you reach shallower waters, you start running. You find yourself in a new country, flattened by the giants. Buildings are reduced to debris scattered like breadcrumbs. More giants wake up by the beach, staring at you. They can smell the human on your shoulder and start chasing you.
With no place to hide, you head to the mountains, where you can blend in with the environment. Your skin changes color, a unique feature that helps you hide. The woman is asleep on your shoulder, and you feel a sense of sympathy for her. Unlike other giants, you don’t crave destruction; you want to help humans.
Suddenly, you hear giants approaching. They’re three times bigger than you and are searching for you. You accidentally make noise, and they spot you. Surrounded by five giants, you place the woman in a safe spot and prepare to defend yourself. You dodge their attacks and head toward a steep cliff.
As they jump at you, you duck, and they fall into the ocean. The biggest one remains, knowing your plan. You manage to slip past it, grab the woman, and escape. The other giants are angry because you saved her, and now they’re all after you.
Days later, you find yourself in the desert, still carrying the woman. She built a small shelter on your shoulder to sleep. You’re exhausted and in need of water. The sun is intense, and you’re sweating, but you create shade for the woman to protect her.
As night falls, you shield her from the cold wind. It’s pitch dark, and you keep walking, stepping on sand dunes. The next day, you see a giant footprint, larger than any you’ve seen before. You run, but there’s nowhere to hide.
Suddenly, you see a massive giant, towering over everything. It’s sleeping, gaining energy from the sun. You tiptoe around it, but it senses you and starts chasing you. You reach the ocean, and it stops, not liking the water. You swim away as it screams from the shore.
And so, your adventure as a giant continues, always on the move, trying to protect the woman and find your place in this strange world.
Imagine you are the giant from the story. Write a diary entry describing your feelings and thoughts as you navigate through the city and interact with humans. Consider how you feel about being so large and the challenges you face. Share your entry with the class and discuss how perspective can change a story.
Using art supplies or digital tools, create a visual representation of the world from the giant’s perspective. Include landmarks, people, and other giants. Think about how the size difference affects the environment and the interactions between characters. Present your artwork and explain your creative choices.
With a group, choose a scene from the story and act it out. Assign roles such as the giant, the woman, and the people in the city. Focus on expressing emotions and reactions to the giant’s presence. After the performance, discuss how acting out the scene helped you understand the characters’ motivations.
Think about how the story could have ended differently. Write an alternate ending where the giant makes a different choice or encounters a new challenge. Share your ending with the class and discuss how different decisions can lead to various outcomes in a story.
