When You Were Born

Today, we have a special book called “When You Were Born” by Emma Dodd. Let’s see what it’s all about!

When you were born, the rain stopped, and the sun came out to play. The sky turned a bright blue, just for you! The snow melted, the birds sang happy songs, and the flowers started to grow.

The grass whispered, the ocean sparkled, and a gentle breeze blew by. When you were born, hearts sang with joy, and all our worries flew away. We laughed, we cried, and our dreams came true. That’s how special you are!

Isn’t that a sweet story? It shows how much happiness you bring to everyone who loves you. Always remember, you are very special!

The Lovely Haze of Baby Days

Now, let’s look at another book called “The Lovely Haze of Baby Days” by Lindsay Keller Matson and Me Frey. It’s all about babies and their busy days!

Babies are everywhere, crawling and climbing. They make funny noises and sometimes get messy, but they are oh-so-cute! Even when things get a little crazy, a baby’s smile can make everything better.

Babies need lots of love and care. They eat, sleep, and play, and sometimes they cry. But that’s okay because they are learning and growing every day!

Even when days are long and nights are sleepless, the love for a baby makes it all worthwhile. Remember, you are never alone in taking care of a baby. There are many people who understand and are there to help!

Thank you for joining us for story time today! We hope you enjoyed these stories. Remember to take care of yourself and your family. See you next time!

  • Can you think of a time when you felt really special, like the story “When You Were Born” describes? What happened, and how did it make you feel?
  • Have you ever helped take care of a baby, like in “The Lovely Haze of Baby Days”? What was it like, and what did you enjoy the most about it?
  • Why do you think babies make people so happy, even when they are messy or crying? Can you share a moment when a baby made you smile?
  1. Nature Walk and Observation: Take a walk outside with a grown-up and look for signs of nature that make you feel happy. Can you find a flower, a bird, or a tree that makes you smile? Draw a picture of what you see and share it with your friends or family. Talk about how these things make you feel special, just like in the story “When You Were Born.”

  2. Baby Care Role Play: Pretend you are taking care of a baby doll or a stuffed animal. What do you need to do to make sure your baby is happy and healthy? Practice feeding, rocking, and singing to your baby. Think about how much love and care babies need, just like in “The Lovely Haze of Baby Days.”

  3. Feelings and Sharing Circle: Sit in a circle with your classmates or family and take turns sharing something that makes you feel special. It could be a hug from a parent, a favorite toy, or a fun game you like to play. Listen to others and see how everyone has different things that make them feel loved and happy.

Let’s have a look!

Babies, babies everywhere on the floor and in my hair. Our rhythm beats the baby way. Most every night blurs into today.

Blowouts, burping, high-pitched squealing, diapers mounding to the ceiling. Crawling, climbing, eating dirt, loads to wash—what’s one more shirt?

Drooling, spit-up, pureed fruit, but oh my goodness, aren’t you cute? Tummy time makes you so sad, and I need rest; I haven’t had.

I might have maybe lost my mind; it’s not an easy thing to find. I’m overwhelmed, my world’s a mess—how does your smile erase my stress?

Bottle, breast, or baby lid, all I care is that you’re fed. The swaddle snug, white noise is on; you might just nap with one more song.

Walking, rocking, midnight drives—I’m desperate to see drowsy eyes. Perhaps it’s gas or maybe teething; all four feet sleep to watch you breathing.

The fridge is empty, lunch looks bleak; I haven’t showered yet this week. With yoga pants and dry shampoo, we’re off to brave the shopping zoo.

The house is so full of baby stuff, yet somehow there’s not enough. The stroller won’t fit through the gate; you won’t get five—how are we late?

Strangest acting nonchalant to give advice and never want. So much mess, so many tears, the longest days, the shortest years.

Sleepless nights and baby blues—thank goodness they are mamas too! If baby small or fully grown, in motherhood, you’re not alone.

I remember my baby days; those days were really rough. But they all pass, and it makes it all worthwhile in the end, right, mamas?

And that was “The Lovely Haze of Baby Days.” That brought back a lot of memories for me. If you would like a copy of this book, the links are in the description below.
