Whiskers Goes to Kindergarten

Hi there! Let’s learn about Whiskers, a happy little boy who is going to kindergarten for the first time. Whiskers is a bit nervous because he has to learn new things like eating by himself, putting away his toys, and going to the restroom all by himself.

Whiskers’ First Day

On his first day, Whiskers was in art class. He needed to go to the restroom but felt too shy to ask. The teacher noticed and said, “Whiskers, if you need to go, just raise your hand and ask!” Whiskers felt better and went to the restroom.

Choosing the Right Door

At the restroom, Whiskers saw two doors with different pictures. He didn’t know which one to choose! The teacher explained, “The door with the skirt is for girls, and the one with pants is for boys.” Now Whiskers knew which door to use!

Learning Restroom Rules

Later, Whiskers tried to take a snack into the restroom. His friend Meumu said, “You can’t bring food in there! It’s not clean.” Whiskers learned that eating in the restroom is not a good idea because it can make you sick.

The teacher also reminded Whiskers to flush the toilet and wash his hands after using the restroom. “Okay, I will,” said Whiskers.

Feeling Better About Kindergarten

When school was over, Whiskers was happy. He told his mom and dad, “My teacher and friends are nice! I can go to the restroom by myself now. I like kindergarten!”

Restroom Fun with Crocodiles

Let’s sing a fun song about crocodiles going to the restroom! Five little crocodiles need to go. The teacher says, “Stand in line and wait your turn. Be careful and stay safe.”

Four little crocodiles go next. “Close the door and be safe,” says the teacher. Three little crocodiles go, and the teacher reminds them to wash their hands.

Finally, one little crocodile goes. “Watch out for the wet floor,” says the teacher. All the crocodiles feel fresh and clean after using the restroom!

Remembering Good Habits

Kids, remember these good habits: don’t eat or play with toys in the restroom, save toilet paper, and always flush and wash your hands. This way, you’ll stay healthy and happy!

Rudolph’s Restroom Adventure

Rudolph had so much fun at the amusement park that he forgot to go to the restroom. He ran to Miss Maymay and said, “I need to go!” Kiki helped Rudolph find the right restroom by looking at the signs on the doors.

Rudolph learned to wipe, flush, and wash his hands. Now he knows how to use the restroom all by himself!

Remember, using the restroom is important. Always be careful and stay clean!

Discussion Questions

  • Whiskers was nervous about going to kindergarten for the first time. Can you remember a time when you felt nervous about trying something new? What helped you feel better?
  • Whiskers learned about the restroom rules, like washing hands and not bringing food inside. Why do you think these rules are important? Can you think of other places where we have special rules to keep us safe and healthy?
  • Whiskers and his friends learned to look at signs to choose the right restroom door. Have you ever used signs to help you find your way? What other signs have you seen that help you know what to do?

Lesson Activities

  1. Restroom Role Play: Gather a few props like a small towel, a pretend toilet, and a soap dispenser. Have the children take turns role-playing as Whiskers or the teacher. Encourage them to practice asking to go to the restroom, choosing the right door, and following the restroom rules like flushing and washing hands. This will help them feel more confident in real-life situations.
  2. Picture Matching Game: Create a set of cards with pictures of restroom signs, such as the ones with skirts and pants, and other restroom-related items like soap, a towel, and a toilet. Mix them up and ask the children to match the pictures with the correct restroom activity or rule. This will reinforce their understanding of restroom signs and hygiene practices.
  3. Good Habits Chart: Provide each child with a chart that lists good restroom habits, such as “Flush the toilet,” “Wash your hands,” and “Don’t bring food into the restroom.” Encourage them to decorate their charts with drawings or stickers. Ask them to take the chart home and check off each habit they remember to do. This will help them apply what they’ve learned in their daily routine.
