Who is Boo?

One sunny day, I was digging in the yard, looking for unicorn horns. Suddenly, I found something hard. It was a mysterious box with a name on it!

Who is Boo?

Let’s find out! We can ask our neighbors if they know Boo.

First, we asked Hugh. He said, “Boo’s a good friend, just ask Mopoke!”

Then, someone else said, “Boo is a blurry fellow, and I think he’s yellow.”

Another person told us, “Boo is huge and midnight blue. I heard he even chomped a tree in two!”

Someone else said, “Boo is a sweet lad, and we never had a quarrel. He might be the nicest in the whole wide world.”

But another person warned us, “Boo can be mischievous and a bit loud.”

Where is Boo?

We heard Boo was out by the brook. We were a little scared, but we decided to say hi anyway.

When we found Boo, we asked, “Is this your old box? We don’t mean to bug you.”

Boo smiled and said, “This box means a lot to me. Please come in for snacks and tea!”

Getting to Know Boo

We learned that Boo is not scary at all. He said, “Fears can be like clouds that make things look different. Not every story is true.”

Boo told us, “I’m usually fun, but sometimes I’m sad. Sometimes I’m sweet, and sometimes I’m mad.”

He added, “I’m red and green and orange and blue, a swirl of many things like you. I am Boo, and I’m one of a kind. Get to know me yourself and see what you find.”

We all said, “We like you, Boo!”

Boo replied, “I like you too!”

A Special Surprise

Before we left, Boo had a surprise for us. He gave us a sparkly magical silver-white spike!

It was so much fun to meet Boo and learn that he is a kind and special friend.

  • What do you think Boo looks like based on the different descriptions people gave? Can you draw a picture of Boo using your imagination?
  • Have you ever met someone who seemed different from what you first thought? How did you get to know them better?
  • If you found a mysterious box in your yard, what kind of treasure or surprise would you hope to find inside? Why?
  1. Colorful Boo Collage: Gather some colored paper, scissors, and glue. Think about all the colors Boo mentioned he could be: red, green, orange, and blue. Create a collage of Boo using these colors. As you work, think about how Boo can be many things at once, just like the different colors in your collage. Share your collage with a friend and talk about what makes Boo special.

  2. Neighborhood Adventure: Just like the characters in the story asked their neighbors about Boo, go on a little adventure with a grown-up around your neighborhood or school. Ask people you meet to describe something or someone they find special. Draw a picture or write a sentence about what you learned. This will help you understand how everyone has a unique story, just like Boo.

  3. Feelings and Faces Game: Boo talked about having different feelings like being fun, sad, sweet, and mad. Make different faces to show these feelings in front of a mirror. Can you guess what feeling each face shows? Ask a friend or family member to guess too. This game helps you understand that it’s okay to have different feelings, just like Boo does.

The end.

If you don’t have books, then what are you waiting for?

Look, this kid’s safe; he has storybooks that are brought to life.

And it’s fun! I like to read books about fantasy and love.

I tell other kids to get books because they’re full of stories and laughter.

I’ll read it on the go, in a car, on a plane, even on a train.

I’ve never been on a train, though.

Ask your guardian to download books now; you’ll be glad you did!
