In today’s Story Time lesson, we explored the importance of reading words in order from left to right to understand stories better. We enjoyed two delightful tales: “The Tale of Peter Rabbit,” introducing us to the rabbit family, and “The Three Little Pigs,” where we learned about the playful pigs. The lesson emphasized practice in reading to enhance comprehension and enjoyment of stories.
  1. What do we do first when we read a story?
  2. Can you name the rabbits in the story?
  3. Why is it important to read words from left to right?

Welcome to Story Time!

Hello, friends! Today, we are going to have fun reading stories together. Are you ready? Let’s start with a story about a little rabbit named Peter Rabbit.

Reading Words in Order

When we read, we always look at the words from left to right. This helps us understand the story. If we mix up the words, the story won’t make sense.

The Tale of Peter Rabbit

Once upon a time, there were four little rabbits. Let’s count them: one, two, three, four. Their names were Flopsy, Mopsy, Cottontail, and Peter. Isn’t that fun to know their names?

They lived with their mother, Mrs. Rabbit, under a big tree. Now we know a lot about the rabbit family!

Another Fun Story: The Three Little Pigs

Would you like to hear another story? It’s about The Three Little Pigs. Let’s read it together!

Once upon a time, there were three little pigs. Let’s count them: one, two, three. Their names were Sniff, Sniff; Snuff, Snuff; and Snaf, Snaf. How fun!

These little pigs loved playing together. They had so much fun frolicking and having a great time!

Practice Makes Perfect

Now it’s your turn to practice reading words in order. Remember, always read from left to right to understand the story better.

Have fun reading, and see you next time!

  • What do you think it would be like to live under a big tree like Peter Rabbit and his family? Can you imagine what you might see or hear there?
  • Why do you think it’s important to read words in order from left to right? Can you think of a time when you read something out of order and it was confusing?
  • If you could name a new character in the story of The Three Little Pigs, what would you name them and why? What kind of adventures might they have?
  1. Story Sequence Cards: Create a set of simple story sequence cards for “The Tale of Peter Rabbit” and “The Three Little Pigs.” Each card should have a picture and a short sentence describing a part of the story. Mix up the cards and ask the children to arrange them in the correct order. This will help them practice reading from left to right and understanding the sequence of events in a story.

  2. Word Hunt Adventure: Organize a word hunt in the classroom or at home. Write down some key words from the stories, such as “rabbit,” “tree,” “pigs,” and “play,” on small pieces of paper. Hide these words around the room. Encourage the children to find the words and then arrange them in the correct order to form simple sentences. This activity reinforces the concept of reading words in order and helps with word recognition.

  3. Draw and Tell: Ask the children to draw their favorite scene from either “The Tale of Peter Rabbit” or “The Three Little Pigs.” Once they finish their drawings, encourage them to describe the scene to the class or a partner, making sure to tell the story in the correct order. This activity combines creativity with storytelling skills and helps children articulate their understanding of the story.

Welcome to Kids Academy!

Hello, children! In this lesson, you are going to practice reading words in order. Let’s open the book. The first story is about Peter Rabbit.

Remember, we always read words from left to right. If words are not read in order, what we are reading does not make sense.

Did you see that? Much better now! Look how much information we can get by reading the words in order.

Once upon a time, there were four little rabbits. We know that there were four rabbits: one, two, three, four.

Let’s read the next sentence. Their names were Flopsy, Mopsy, Cottontail, and Peter. Now we know their names: Flopsy, Mopsy, Cottontail, and Peter. This makes the story interesting, doesn’t it?

Let’s read one more sentence. They lived with their mother, Mrs. Rabbit, underneath a very big tree. We know so much about the rabbit family now.

If we didn’t read these words in order, we would probably be very confused.

Would you like to look at another story? It’s called The Three Little Pigs. Let’s read together.

Once upon a time, there were three little pigs. Their names were Sniff, Sniff; Snuff, Snuff; and Snaf, Snaf.

How interesting! Now we know that there were three: one, two, three. We also know their names: Sniff, Sniff.

Let’s read one more sentence. Most of all, they loved playing with each other, frolicking and having fun. When we read this sentence in order from left to right, we learned that the little pigs like to have lots of fun.

Those little pigs look like they are having lots of fun!

Now you can practice reading words in order on your own. Don’t forget, we always read words in order from left to right.
