Hello! My name is Brad Meltzer, and I’m super excited to tell you about our first movie, “Xavier Riddle and the Secret Movie.” It’s going to be a lot of fun, and I have some cool things to share with you!
Have you heard of Jackie Joyner-Kersee? She’s an amazing athlete who won lots of medals at the Olympics! In our movie, we chose her because she teaches us an important lesson: take things one step at a time. Our heroes travel back in time to meet Jackie and other heroes. Each hero has a special lesson to share, and Jackie shows us how to keep going, step by step. It’s a lesson we all need to learn!
Imagine working with real heroes like Amelia Earhart, George Washington, and Jackie Joyner-Kersee! It’s so exciting! What if I make a mistake? Well, Jackie is super nice, so she might just laugh and give me a pretend medal! The coolest part is seeing Jackie as a cartoon character. It’s really special!
Let me tell you a fun story. I have a picture of me with Jackie Joyner-Kersee. It was drawn by our talented artist, Chris Eliopoulos, just for her. Jackie saw herself as a cartoon for the first time, and it was amazing! You can see this picture and enjoy the movie too!
So, don’t miss “Xavier Riddle and the Secret Movie.” You can watch it on the PBS Kids app. Remember, kids like you have the power to change the world!
PBS Kids presents a special movie event: “Xavier Riddle.” Join us for an epic adventure filled with high-flying action, daring rescues, and exciting moments. I’m Madame President, and this is my first movie! Let’s have fun and don’t forget to say, “Pass the popcorn!”
Enjoy “Xavier Riddle and the Secret Movie” and have a great time learning and exploring!
Step-by-Step Challenge: Just like Jackie Joyner-Kersee teaches us to take things one step at a time, let’s try a fun challenge! Choose a simple task like building a small tower with blocks or drawing a picture. Break it down into smaller steps. For example, if you’re building a tower, start with the base, then add the middle, and finally the top. As you complete each step, think about how it feels to accomplish each part. Share your creation with a friend or family member and explain the steps you took!
Hero Hunt: Go on a hero hunt in your home or neighborhood! Look for people who help others, like a friendly neighbor, a teacher, or a family member. Ask them about a time they had to do something step by step to achieve a goal. Draw a picture or write a short story about what you learned from them. How are they like the heroes in “Xavier Riddle and the Secret Movie”?
Time Travel Imagination: Imagine you could travel back in time like Xavier and meet a hero. Who would you like to meet and why? Draw a picture of you with your hero and think about what lesson they might teach you. Share your drawing and story with your class or family. Discuss how learning from heroes can help us in our everyday lives.

My name is Brad Meltzer, and I’m here to talk about “Xavier Riddle and the Secret Movie.” This is our first movie, and we are so excited! Here are three important questions about it.
**Question One:** Why did we highlight Jackie Joyner-Kersee? Have you seen her? She’s amazing! She set Olympic medal records and aimed to be the first American woman to win her event and earn a gold medal. If I won the Olympics, I would wear my medal right now! We feature her because we want to teach kids the value of going one step at a time. That’s what she stands for, and you’ll see in the movie that our heroes go back in time to meet four different heroes—maybe a fifth surprise, but don’t tell anyone! Each one gives them a lesson, and Jackie Joyner-Kersee teaches us about taking it one step at a time. We all need that lesson.
**Question Two:** What is it like to work with a real hero? If I mess up with Amelia Earhart, what’s she going to do? If I mess up with George Washington, what’s he going to do? If I mess up with Jackie Joyner-Kersee, she might come to my house and give me medals! Just kidding—she’s super nice. The best part is watching her react to herself as a cartoon. It is really unique to see that.
**Question Three:** Any fun stories of working with her? I’ll show you one. I’m going to show you a picture of me with Jackie Joyner-Kersee right after one of the first times she ever saw herself as a cartoon. This picture was drawn by our amazing artist, Chris Eliopoulos, just for her. Here is the picture—take a look and enjoy “Xavier Riddle and the Secret Movie.”
Anyway, go see “Xavier Riddle and the Secret Movie.” Watch it on the PBS Kids app. Thanks for watching! We appreciate it, and remember, kids like you can change the world!
