One day, Xavier and Bridle were walking around when they noticed some plants that needed help. They accidentally stepped on them, and Xavier said, “We need to take care of these plants!”
Bridle was curious and asked, “Do you have a secret garden?” Xavier smiled and replied, “Yes, I do! It’s where I take care of my plants.”
Instead of buying new flower pots, Xavier suggested reusing things they already had to carry the plants. “Reusing stuff is a great way to help the Earth,” Xavier explained.
Once they put the plants in their makeshift pots, Bridle said, “Our plant looks so cute! But we need to plant them in your garden soon.”
Bridle was excited to see Xavier’s secret garden. “Why do you have a secret garden?” she asked. Xavier explained, “It’s where I take care of my plants and treat them like pets. They need food, water, and sunshine, just like pets do!”
Bridle thought having a plant pet sounded fun. “Plants are nice to look at, and doctors love smelling flowers,” she said.
Suddenly, a butterfly flew by. “I love butterflies, and they love plants because they drink from flowers,” Bridle said with a smile.
“I never thought about it that way,” Xavier said. “If butterflies love plants, maybe I should too!”
Bridle asked Xavier, “Do you think plants are awesome?” Xavier wasn’t sure. “They’re nice to look at and smell, but they don’t do much for me,” he said.
Bridle had an idea. “Do you like books?” she asked. “I love books!” Xavier replied. “Well, paper comes from plants,” Bridle explained.
“How about soccer?” Bridle continued. “I love soccer!” Xavier said. “The ball is made from rubber, and rubber comes from plants,” Bridle told him.
“And don’t forget about the air we breathe,” Bridle added. “Plants make and clean the air for us!”
Xavier thought about all the things plants do. “Wow, plants are pretty awesome,” he said with a big smile.
“Yes, they are!” Bridle agreed. “Since plants and the Earth do so much for us, it’s important to take care of them.”
And with that, Xavier and Bridle happily took their plants to the secret garden, ready to give them the love and care they needed.
Plant Detective: Go on a nature walk with an adult and look for different types of plants. Take a notebook and draw pictures of the plants you see. Try to find out their names and write them down. Notice the different shapes and colors of the leaves and flowers. Discuss with your adult how each plant might help the environment or animals like butterflies.
Reusing Challenge: Find items around your home that you can reuse as plant pots, just like Xavier did. It could be an old cup, a yogurt container, or a small box. With the help of an adult, plant a small seed or a plant in your new pot. Make sure to water it and place it in a sunny spot. Keep a diary of how your plant grows and changes over time.
Thank You, Plants! Art Project: Create a thank-you card for plants. Use paper, crayons, markers, or any art supplies you have. Draw pictures of things you love that come from plants, like books, soccer balls, or fresh air. Share your card with your family and explain why plants are important to you and the world.

Xavier, Bridle, and the Secret Museum
These plants definitely need to be taken care of. We kind of stepped on them. [Music]
We’ll need to get these plants to my secret garden.
You have a secret garden? Does it take you back in time?
Uh, no.
We can carry our plants in these. Should we just buy flower pots? Reusing stuff is another way of taking care of the Earth. [Music]
Ah, our plant looks so cute! They can’t stay here for long; we need to get them planted in my garden right away.
Okay, to the secret garden!
So how come you have a secret garden?
It’s where I take care of my plants and my pets.
Ah, your plants are your pets?
Not pets like cats and dogs, but I do take care of them like a pet. They need lots of food, water, and sunshine. A plant pet would be so fun! They’re nice to look at, and doctors love smelling flowers. [Music]
Oh, that’s going to hurt! Let’s just give me the sneezes.
Oh, a butterfly! No, there’s something I love, and butterflies love plants. They drink from flowers.
Huh, I never thought about it that way. Whatever’s good for butterflies is good with me, so I guess I love plants too— from a safe distance. What about you, Xavier? Do you think plants are awesome?
I don’t know. They’re nice to look at and smell and everything, but they don’t really do much for me.
Well, do you like books?
I love books!
The paper comes from plants. How about soccer?
I love soccer!
The ball’s made from rubber, and rubber comes from plants. I bet you like breathing air.
Thanks, plants!
Plants make air. That’s right; they make and clean the air we breathe.
Peanut butter sandwich? Yes, please! Bread, jam, peanuts. [Music]
I guess plants are pretty awesome.
Mm-hmm! And since plants and the Earth do so much for us, it’s important to take care of them. [Music]
