Hey friends! Guess who I am? I am the Sun! I’m here to say hello to you, and I want you to say hello to me too. Do you know how we can do that? It’s called the Sun Salutation! Let’s learn it together!
First, stand up tall with your feet on the ground. Put your hands together at your heart. Take a big breath in, and when you breathe out, lift your arms up high. Stretch as tall as you can and say, “Hello, Sun! Hello, friends!”
Now, let’s say hello to the Earth. Bend forward and touch the ground with your hands. Say, “Hello, Earth!” as loud as you can!
Next, breathe in and move your right leg back. Put your knee on the ground. Then, move your left leg back and lift your hips up high. This is the Downward Dog pose. Look, Yogi the dog is here to show us how it’s done! Hi, Yogi!
Now, lie down on your tummy with your hands on the ground. We are going to do the Cobra pose. Take a deep breath in and lift your head and chest. As you breathe out, make a hissing sound like a snake. Good job!
Let’s go back to the Downward Dog pose. Lift your hips up high again. Take a big step forward with your left leg. Breathe in deeply.
Now, take another step forward and say goodbye to the Earth. “Goodbye, Earth! See you soon!”
Finally, breathe in and lift your arms up high again. Stretch your legs and arms to say goodbye to me, the Sun. Then, go back to the first pose and breathe out. I hope to see you every morning to say hello!

Sun Salutation Art: Let’s create a beautiful picture of the Sun Salutation! Use crayons, markers, or colored pencils to draw each pose you learned. Start with the “Hello, Sun!” pose and end with the “Goodbye, Earth!” pose. As you draw, think about how each pose makes you feel. Share your artwork with your friends and family and explain each step of the Sun Salutation to them.
Yoga Pose Adventure: Go on a yoga adventure in your backyard or a nearby park. Pretend you are different animals or objects as you do the poses. For example, when you do the Downward Dog pose, imagine you are a playful puppy. When you do the Cobra pose, pretend you are a slithering snake. Can you think of other animals or objects for the other poses? Share your ideas with your friends!
Sun Salutation Storytime: Create a story about a day in the life of the Sun. What does the Sun see when it rises in the morning? Who does it say hello to? Use the poses from the Sun Salutation to act out different parts of your story. For example, when the Sun rises, stretch your arms up high. When the Sun sets, bend forward to say goodbye to the Earth. Share your story with your classmates or family.

Hey friends! Do you know who I am? I am the Sun! I have come here today to greet you and have you greet me. Do you know how we are going to do this?

Well, it’s not exactly like that. I really mean something more original: the Sun Salutation. Do you want me to teach you how to do it? Great! We are going to begin with the first pose. Stand up with your back straight and your feet firmly planted on the ground. Now bring the palms of your hands together at your heart. Breathe deeply, and when you exhale, breathe in while you raise your arms. When you reach up as high as you can, arch your back and loudly say, “Hello, Sun! Hello, friends!”
Now we are going to say hello to the Earth. Breathe out while you lean forward, touching your palms to the ground, then say really loudly, “Hello, Earth!”
Hey guys, perfect! Let’s continue with the salutation. Breathe in, and without taking your arms off the ground, move your right leg back, resting your knee and planting your foot on the ground. Now, pushing your hands to the ground, move your left leg back and raise your hips as high as you can, finishing in Downward Dog.
Look who’s here! Yogi the dog! He came to show us his pose while we are doing the Sun Salutation. Hey, Yogi!
Now lower your whole body to the floor and lie face down with the palms of your hands on the ground. We are going to do Cobra. We need Cobra Namaste’s help. Cobra Namaste, can you help us?
Feel your breath, and as you breathe in, push your hands through the ground, lifting your head and chest at the same time. Breathe out through your mouth and teeth, making the sound of a snake.
Let’s go back to our Downward Dog pose. Remember, you raise your hips as high as you can. Take a big step forward and lower your hips with the left leg forward. Breathe in.
Now, without taking your hands off the ground, take another step forward. Go back to this position to say goodbye to the Earth. Goodbye, guys! See you soon!
And now we have to say goodbye. While you breathe in, slowly lift your arms and stretch your legs and arms really well to say goodbye to me.
Now you just have to go back to the first pose while you exhale. It would be great to see you guys back here to greet me every morning. See you soon!
