One sunny day, Zack and Rex were playing their favorite game, hide and seek! Zack was really good at hiding, and Rex wanted to get better at it too.
Zack said, “Do you want to be it this time, Rex?” Rex agreed and started counting, “One, two, three…” while Zack ran to find a hiding spot.
Rex looked everywhere, but Zack was hiding so well! Finally, Zack said, “I give up! I’m right here!” He was hiding behind a rock the whole time!
Rex decided he needed a disguise to hide better. He tried using sticks, but Zack could still see his bright yellow color. Then, Rex tried using leaves, but the wind blew them away!
Finally, Rex had a great idea! He covered himself with mud, which helped him blend in with the plants. Zack couldn’t find him at all!
Zack said, “Wow, Rex, that’s an amazing disguise! You are the hide-and-seek champion of Zerbyland!”
After playing hide and seek, Zack and Rex wanted to drive over a big log. They decided to build a ramp using sand to get on top of it.
They called their friends Chase and Strut to help. Together, they piled up lots of sand to make a ramp. But the sand was too soft, and their wheels kept slipping.
Walter, their friend, had a great idea. He sprayed water on the sand to make it stronger. Now, Zack and Rex could drive up the ramp and reach the top of the log!
Zack and Rex wanted to make their sand pit bigger so they could play more. They decided to bring more sand from a faraway sand pit.
Rex was great at carrying sand, but it was a big job. Zack found a piece of bark that looked like a scoop. He used it to carry sand too!
With their new scoop, Zack and Rex worked together to bring lots of sand back to Zerby Town. Their sand pit got bigger, and they had lots of fun playing!
And that’s how Zack and Rex learned the importance of teamwork and trying new ideas. What a fun day in Zerbyland!
Hide and Seek Adventure: Let’s play a game of hide and seek just like Zack and Rex! Find a spot in your classroom or playground to hide. Think about what makes a good hiding spot. Is it behind something big? Or maybe somewhere that matches your clothes? After the game, talk about what made your hiding spot a good choice or how you could improve it next time.
Camouflage Craft: Create your own disguise using craft materials. You can use leaves, paper, or fabric to make a costume that helps you blend into your surroundings. Once you’re done, try hiding in the classroom or playground and see if your friends can find you. Discuss how animals use camouflage in nature to stay safe.
Sand Ramp Experiment: In a sandbox or a tray of sand, try building a small ramp like Zack and Rex did. Use toy cars to test if they can go up the ramp. Experiment by adding water to the sand to see how it changes the ramp’s strength. Talk about why the water helped and how teamwork made the ramp better.

Go away!
I don’t know how you do it, Zack.
I’m just good at hide and seek, I guess.
Oh, I love hide and seek, but I sure wish I was better at hiding.
Well, just keep practicing, buddy. Do you want to be it this time?
Oh, okay! You go hide, and I’ll count to ten.
Huh, okay.
One, two, three, four, five…
Let’s see… um, maybe I can get this… oh, this is great! I’ll get a hide!
[Music]
[Laughter]
Are you over here, Zack?
Okay, I give up! I’m right here!
What? The whole time? I can’t believe it!
Yeah, I was just behind this rock.
Wow, you’re really good at hiding!
Oh, it’s easy if you find a good hiding spot.
You want to try again?
Oh, okay, great!
Uh, I’ll go over to the tree and start counting.
I’m pretty sure I can get a good spot this time.
Zack, I’m gonna count now. You ready?
One, two, three, four…
Okay, I’m gonna get in here. You’ll never find me!
Are you not here? Here I come!
I’m gonna find you!
I found you!
Oh, what? Oh, I can’t believe you found me so quickly!
Couldn’t you find a good hiding spot?
That was my hiding spot!
Oh, well, I can still see you. Your yellow paint job was sticking out behind the rock there.
No, I guess… hey, this time I’m gonna get a disguise so you won’t even recognize me!
Oh, good idea, Rex!
Okay, okay, I’m gonna go look around and see what I can find.
Oh, I love disguises! Can I come too?
Uh-uh, no way! It has to be a secret.
Oh, right, gotcha! Okay, I’ll be right here just looking at this rock.
Look at this! It’s a neat rock! It just sort of looks like that…
Uh, okay, let’s see… this rock… uh, no… hey, wait a minute! I could cover myself with sticks!
Oh, this’ll work for sure!
Nine, ten, ready or not, here I come!
I’ve gotta find you ’cause I’m the best hiding stick player in the whole forest, and I can perfect this disguise!
Uh, Rex?
What?
I can see you, Rex!
You can? I thought the disguise was perfect!
Well, I can still see a lot of yellow. Those sticks don’t cover you that well.
Oh, I guess I’ve got to make sure I’m completely covered.
Oh, okay, Zack, you know what? Let’s try again!
Okay, Rex, you want me to go count again?
Yep!
Okay!
Okay, let’s see… what should I… uh, hey, look at all the leaves!
Oh, wait! Leaves! Leaves will cover me completely! They’ll cover all my yellow! That’s perfect!
[Music]
Eight, nine, ten, ready or not, here I come!
I’ve gotta find you because I’m the best finder in the forest!
Nice try, Rex! You almost had me there!
It’s about half your disguise blew away!
Well, it was good for a minute until the wind decided to blow!
I know I can find a disguise that will make you give up, Zack! I can! I just need to find something that will cover all of me and stay that way!
Well, there’s only one thing to do, right?
Right!
Again!
You want me to count again?
Yeah, you count, and I’ll go look!
Okay, here I go!
Oh, I love mud, but this is not the time to play in the mud! I’ve got to find a…
Hey, wait a minute! That’s it! Mud! I can cover myself with mud! It will cover all my shiny yellow paint!
Just do a little bit of this, a little bit of that… oh, this is gonna be great!
Here I come!
I’m gonna find you, Rex, because I am the best finder, and you can’t hide from me, Rex, because I am so good at finding!
Wow, you really got a good disguise this time, Rex!
Aha! I see you!
Oh no, those are just yellow leaves! I thought that was you for sure!
I don’t know, Rex…
I give up! Come on, come out wherever you are!
[Music]
Wow, Rex, that’s an amazing disguise!
It is, isn’t it?
You couldn’t find me because I was camouflaged! The mud helped me blend in with the plants!
I now declare you, Rex, the official hide-and-seek champion of Zerbyland!
Oh, right!
So what do you want to do now? You want me to find you?
No, I think we should try to find Walter.
Walter? What for?
So he can wash all that mud off you!
Okay, good idea! Come on, let’s go this way!
I can’t believe you couldn’t find me!
I couldn’t! I couldn’t see you at all! Did you let me win?
No, I didn’t! I could not see you! You were amazing!
‘Cause you’re such a good finder!
Well, you’re a good hider! Now I hope Walter uses warm water this time!
Oh yeah, it can get chilly!
[Music]
Okay, all right!
Oh, that was fun!
Yeah, so what do you want to do today, Rex?
I don’t know, Zack. What do you want to do?
Um, you want to go to the sand pit?
Sure, that sounds like a great idea!
Hey, I’ll race you there! Tag, I’m it!
I’ll…
[Music]
Okay!
Oh, hey, look! A log!
Yeah, what’s this? I’m gonna get right up! I’m gonna get right up on top of this log!
Look at me, Rex! I’m on top of the log!
Oh, let me try!
Look at that! That’s fun!
Hey, do you think we can drive over it?
Oh, okay, you go first!
All right, wait for me!
Hey, hey, Zack! Look! An even bigger log!
Oh yeah, let’s drive over it!
Okay, okay, let’s go!
Okay!
That log’s too big for you, Zack! I’m stuck!
I know! Okay, I’ll tell you what, I’ll get you! I’m gonna give you a little boost!
Thanks, Max!
You’re welcome! Let’s go!
[Music]
Look at the size of that log!
Hey, Zack, wouldn’t it be great if we could drive on top of that one?
But it’s too big!
Right! But where’s Zerby’s? We could build something to get on top of it!
Like, um… like a ramp!
Great idea! But, uh, what can we use in the sand pit to make a ramp with?
Oh yeah, sand!
[Applause]
But we might need help!
Uh, Zack, Chase!
Come in, Chase!
Hello, Zack! What’s up?
Rex and I are at the sand pit! Can you get Strut to meet us there?
You bet! I’ll go tell them right now!
I heard you guys needed my help! Are we building something?
I hope we’re building something!
Yeah, we want to get to the top of this log, so we’re gonna pile a bunch of sand right here and make it into a ramp!
Let’s build!
Yeah! Scoop! Lift!
Okay, strength!
Right! Really! There! Thank you!
Backing up and… don’t!
You guys are really good at this!
I appreciate you!
And, uh, hmm… it isn’t staying together very well.
Here, let me try!
We just need to shape this part here to push it up!
It’s not working!
You’re right! No matter how we try to shape it into a ramp, the sand just keeps falling back down!
Well then, we need to try, try again!
If we can’t change the shape of this sand pile, then we have to make it big enough to reach the top of the log on its own!
More sand!
Good thing it’s so fun to move!
This is turning into a really big job!
Big jobs are what we big Zerbies are made for!
All right, one more load!
How to do it, Strut?
And, uh… there!
Yeah! We did it! We did it!
Yes! It’s all the way to the top now!
All right, let’s get on top of that log!
Yeah!
Okay, tell you what, I’m going to give you…
[Music]
So close! Good try, Zack!
Hmm, my tires just kept spinning!
I think this sand is too soft to drive up!
We have to find some way to make the ramp stronger!
We have to try, try again!
Let’s look around and see if we can find something that will help us!
Answers are everywhere!
Good idea! Let’s go!
Oh, pine tree! Too tall, too skinny!
Uh, no time to move on!
Do you have any idea?
Oh, hey! It’s Walter and Jake!
Hey, Walter!
Hey!
Who said that?
I don’t know!
Hi, guys! What are you doing?
Oh, hey, Zack!
Well, I was just wetting the sand!
Wetting the sand?
Yeah! When the sand is wet, it’s a lot easier to drive on!
Uh-oh! Hey, that gives me an idea!
Come on, Walter! Follow me!
Oh, okay! Uh, where are we going?
Where are you going? What’s going on?
We built a ramp! It’s by the log! It’s really cool!
Where? Where?
Hey, Zack!
Oh, hi, Walter! What are you doing here?
Walter’s gonna help us! The way to fix our ramp is to get it wet!
Water will make it stronger!
Yeah! Wet sand seems to hold together better than dry sand, so I thought we’d try giving it a good soaking!
Well, guess what? I’m the guy to do just that!
Okay, stand back! Here comes the water!
All right, there you go!
You gotta go up high a little bit, then you gotta go for that side!
Up high and low!
Get!
That’s one wet ramp! I guarantee it!
I’m gonna go try it out!
Go, Zack! You can do it!
All right, you can do it!
Huh, it’s holding together! My wheels aren’t slipping!
Hey, hey, it’s working!
Huh, it’s working!
Hey, I did it!
Oh my gosh!
Wow!
All right!
Fantastic!
Wow! I can see the whole sand pit from up here!
Come on up, Rex!
All right, on my way!
This is gonna be fun!
Whoa! Take it easy, Rex!
Here we go!
Hey, it’s great up here!
Fun! Come on, Rex!
Okay, go this way!
Uh, what’s over there?
Oh, it’s the other end of the log!
Uh, how do we get down?
We, um…
Uh, I guess we build another ramp!
Uh, Strut, another ramp!
[Music]
Hey, what do you want to do today, Rex?
Oh, I don’t know!
Hey, how about we play in the city?
That’s a great idea! Let’s go to the Zerby Town sand pit!
Yeah, let’s go there!
It is the Zerby Town sand pit!
Um, I wish it was bigger!
It really is small!
But it’s really close to home!
That’s true! Well, let’s play!
Okay, I’m gonna go!
Oh no, I’m gonna go!
Okay, I’ll come in this side, and then you can just… a second!
I just don’t know if we’re both gonna fit!
Yeah, you’re right!
It’s too bad our sand pit isn’t bigger!
Why don’t we get some more sand and we can make it bigger?
Oh, that’s a great idea! But where?
Oh, there’s a big sand pit! It’s kind of far away, but come on! I’ll show you!
Wait, sir! What? It’s this way!
Am I going the wrong way?
Oh no, you’re right! Come on, Rex! Right behind you!
Is it over here?
No, it’s a little further!
Is it? Is it in this tree?
Oh, there’s no sand in the tree!
Not in the tree! Come on!
Okay, I’m coming!
Are we almost there yet?
Nope, not yet!
Boy, this place is far!
I told you it was!
Wow, we made it!
Hey, this is great!
We should just play here when we want to play in the sand!
Yeah, but it’s really far from Zerby Town!
Oh yeah, okay! Let’s get some sand and haul it back to Zerby Town!
If it’s hauling sand you need, I’m your Zerby! Watch this!
Here we go!
All right, Rex!
Back to…
[Music]
How you doing, Rex?
No problem! Carrying sand is what I do best!
I got Zack on my back!
Yeah, I’ll get off!
I’ll get up!
Okay, you’re strong!
Thank you! Let’s keep going!
Okay!
Just a little more! Just keep backing up a little more!
And okay, dump it right there!
Right here?
Yeah, right there!
Okay, here we go!
All right, more sand!
This is great! Look at it!
Hey, look! The sand pit’s getting bigger!
Yeah, but not a lot bigger!
Well, I’ve only done one load!
There’s enough sand for lots of loads!
We can add as much sand as we want!
How many more loads do you think we’ll need?
A lot more!
Hmm, this could take forever!
You’re right, Rex! You hauling all this sand by yourself just isn’t going to work!
Well, you know what we say when something doesn’t work right?
Try it, try it again!
So how are we gonna haul more sand?
Well, maybe I could help you!
Of course! It’s a great idea! Come on, let’s go back!
Okay, good! Let’s go!
Hey, Zack! Which way?
It’s this way, Zack!
Billy sure I know for sure!
Come on, I’m coming!
Yeah!
Oh yeah, it really is a long drive there, isn’t it?
Okay, what do I do with the sand pile, Rex?
What do I do here?
Well, first I have to get some in my bucket here!
Okay, there we go!
Wow! And now what?
Just drive to the bottom of the pile there, like this!
Yeah, no! I’ll drive up, and when I get to the top, I’ll dump the sand on top of you!
You ready?
I’m ready! Dump away!
All right!
Hey, look at me! I’m hauling sand!
What do I do now, Rex?
Well, come on! We have to drive back!
Okay!
Okay, look at me!
And I’m driving with my sand!
Oh my gosh!
And I’m hauling it!
Oops! What? You dropped all your sand!
I did?
Yeah! Oh no! There’s still a little bit there, but I don’t think that’s going to be enough!
Yeah, you’re right!
I guess I don’t have a nifty bucket to hold this in like you do!
I guess this idea didn’t work!
It’s okay! We can always try, try again!
You’re right, Rex! What should we do differently?
Well, why don’t we look around? Answers are everywhere!
Oh, good idea!
Do you see anything?
Right there!
There’s nothing back there!
Um, oh, I don’t see anything yet!
I don’t either!
Uh, hey! Maybe…
Hey, Rex! Come and look at this!
Oh, what is it, Zack?
Look at this bark! It looks like a scoop!
Yeah, it’s sort of the same shape as my dump bucket!
I bet I could use this bark to carry sand!
Oh yeah, I bet it would hold a lot of sand!
Okay, let’s take it back to the sand pit!
Help me get it on my roof!
Okay, let’s do it!
All right! Let me try this again with my fancy new scoop!
Okay, I think it’s gonna work! Are you ready?
Okay, all set!
[Music]
Ah! Hey, look at that! It totally fits on there!
Okay, just let me back up!
Hey, how’s it working?
I think it works really well! Look at that!
All right, let’s go back to Zerby Town!
Oh, I have to get a load too!
Oh, okay! I’ll stay here!
Ah, there we go! Yay! Back to Zerby Town!
Back to Zerby Town! Come on, Zack!
I’m coming! I just…
This is heavy!
Sure it is, but you can do it!
Think I would make a good dump truck?
Yeah, this hill is steep, but I think I would make a good dump truck!
You would!
How are you doing?
I’m good! What is…
I spilled some! Is that okay if I spill some?
That’s fine! Still a dump truck!
You’re still a dump truck!
Hey, look, Zack!
Oh, hey, Rex!
Hey, Zack! What are you doing?
Oh, hi, Lily! I’m helping Rex move sand in this Zerby Town sand pit so we can make it bigger!
