In today’s lesson, Lily and Zach embark on an exciting adventure in Survey Town Forest, where they race to the marsh but get separated. Through teamwork and creative problem-solving, they find each other by locating a tall white tree and later help their friend Axel with a heavy flag by calling in their strong friend Sandy the bulldozer. The lesson emphasizes the importance of collaboration, persistence, and trying new ideas to overcome challenges.
  1. What did Lily and Zach do to find each other when they got separated?
  2. How did Sandy help Zach and Axel with the heavy flag?
  3. Why is it important to work together with friends?

Let’s Go on an Adventure!

Today is a super fun day in Survey Town Forest! Lily and Zach are ready to drive around and explore. They love driving and racing each other. Do you like to race too?

Ready, Set, Go!

Lily and Zach decide to race to the marsh. They zoom off, going fast and having lots of fun. But oh no! They get separated and can’t see each other anymore. What should they do?

Finding Each Other

Lily and Zach use their radios to talk. They sound close, but they can’t see each other. Lily has a great idea! She honks her horn so Zach can follow the sound. But the sound bounces everywhere because of the water. Oh no!

Then, Lily thinks of another plan. She waves a tree so Zach can see it moving. But Zach can’t see the tree waving. What should they try next?

Using Their Eyes

Lily and Zach decide to look for a big, tall, white tree by the marsh. They both see it! They drive towards the tree from different sides. Finally, they find each other by the big rock near the tree. Hooray!

Let’s Play Hide and Seek!

Now that they’re together, Lily and Zach decide to play hide and seek. Lily counts while Zach hides. They have so much fun playing together!

Helping a Friend

Later, Zach meets Axel, who has a flag he wants to put on top of a hill. But the hill is too steep! Zach tries to help, but the flag is too heavy. What can they do?

Calling for Help

They call their strong friend Rex, who has grippy tires. But even Rex can’t carry the flag up the hill. Then, Sandy the bulldozer comes to help. Sandy is super strong and has treads that grip the dirt really well.

Sandy not only carries the flag but also pulls Zach and Axel up the hill. Wow, Sandy is amazing!

Teamwork Makes the Dream Work

With Sandy’s help, they put the flag on top of the hill. Everyone is happy and cheers for Sandy. Working together made it possible to solve the problem!

Learning About Balance

Later, Bob the boat wants to help move rocks across the lake. But he needs to find the right balance so he doesn’t tip over. After trying different spots, Bob finds the perfect place for the rock. Now he can help too!

Remember, when things get tricky, just try, try again! Working together and trying new ideas can help solve any problem. What fun adventures will you go on today?

  • Have you ever been on an adventure like Lily and Zach? What was it like, and did you have to solve any problems along the way?
  • When Lily and Zach got separated, they tried different ways to find each other. Can you think of other ways they could have used to find each other? Have you ever had to find someone or something that was lost?
  • In the story, Sandy the bulldozer helped Zach and Axel with the flag. Can you think of a time when you helped someone or when someone helped you? How did it make you feel?
  1. Sound Exploration: Let’s explore how sound travels! Gather some simple materials like a small drum, a bell, and a whistle. Take turns making sounds with these objects and see how far away you can hear them. Try covering your ears with your hands and notice how the sound changes. Can you think of other ways to make sounds travel further, like Lily and Zach tried with their radios and horn?

  2. Tree Spotting Adventure: Go on a mini-adventure in your backyard or a nearby park. Look for a big, tall tree, just like Lily and Zach did. Can you find a tree that stands out? Try describing it to a friend or family member and see if they can find it too. What makes it special or easy to spot? Is it the color, shape, or size?

  3. Teamwork Challenge: Create a simple obstacle course using pillows, chairs, or boxes. Work with a friend or family member to get from one side to the other. Pretend you’re helping each other like Sandy, Zach, and Axel. Can you think of ways to make it easier, like using a toy car or a rope? Talk about how working together makes it more fun and easier to solve problems!

Sure! Here’s a sanitized version of the transcript:

[Music] It’s a great day for driving in Survey Town Forest, don’t you think, Lily?
Yeah, every day’s a great day for driving!
Where do you want to drive to next?
I think I want to drive down to the marsh.
Oh, we haven’t been there in a while.
Yeah, let’s go!
Oh wait, Zach?
Huh?
What? Let’s race!
Okay, ready, set, turbo!
[Music]
Oh, better speed up! I’m gonna catch you!
I’m ahead!
This way! I’m coming!
It’s so nice today!
Yeah!
This is bumpy!
This way! Look, I’m ahead now!
Wait, I’ll wait for you. I’m waiting!
All right, I’m going! I’m going!
This is fun!
Hey, you’ll never catch up to me, Zach!
I don’t have to; I just have to be first!
Shortcut!
Run!
Oh no, you don’t!
First!
[Music]
Lily! Lily! Where are you?
Huh?
Zach, you’re not here! Where are you?
Zach? Zach?
Hmm… Lily to Zach, come in.
Zach?
Hi, Lily! I read you! I’m right here by the marsh!
But you’re not! Are you joking?
I’m right here by the water, but as far as I can see, there’s no Zach!
No, I’m not joking! I got my tires right near the water too, and I can’t see you anywhere!
Okay, this is really weird because I can hear you as if you’re right beside me, but you’re not.
That’s because we’re talking on the radio! We always sound close over the radio.
Oh yeah! Well, at least we can talk to each other, right? We’re just gonna have to try again to find each other, Zach.
Hmm… right! So what will we do differently?
Oh, I got it! Stay right there and honk your horn!
My horn?
Yeah, honk, and I’ll follow the sound!
Okay!
[Music]
I hear it! I hear it! Okay, I’m coming! Here I come!
Hey, wait a minute!
No, it’s coming from over there!
Okay, here I come!
Wait a minute! No, it sounds like it’s coming from over there now!
Wait, no! Where is it coming from? Here or over here?
No!
Lily, we have a problem!
We do? Can’t you hear my horn?
I can hear your horn loud and clear!
So what’s the problem, Zach?
The problem is that it sounds like it’s coming from everywhere! The water makes it seem like the sound is coming from all around me!
You’re right! That is a problem! But you know what Zurby’s doing? We have a problem, try, try again!
So what should we do differently?
Hmm… well, sound seems to come from everywhere over water, so maybe instead of sound, we should use vision!
Oh, good idea! Okay, Zach, I know how to do this! Why don’t I bump a tree, and then when you see the top of the tree waving, you can come and find me because I’ll be right underneath it!
Okay, ready? Start waving!
Okay, here I go!
Okay, start now!
Yeah, I’ve already started!
Zach, can’t you see the tree waving at you?
Uh, no, I don’t see anything! Wait, let me look over here!
That’s just wind!
Uh, no!
Okay, well that tells us something, Zach!
Yeah, that I can’t see the waving tree!
Yes, but it also tells us that you’re not in front of me or even right near me!
It does! Good point!
So now what do we do?
We try, try again, Zurby style! Let’s see, what should we do next?
Um, let me look around here… whoa! Okay, no, nothing over there! I just got turned around!
Um… oh hey! I see a dead tree! Maybe we can use it to help us!
What tree? I can’t see what you can see because we’re in different places, Zach!
Well, can you see the marsh from where you are?
Yeah, I can see the marsh! Do you see a dead tree? It’s really tall and it’s sort of white.
Oh yeah, I do see a dead tree! It’s on my right!
Oh, is it? It’s on my left!
Oh, so we’re not near each other at all!
Right! But let’s both drive along the shore until we’re right across from the tree!
Okay! If I drive to the right and you drive to the left, we’ll meet in front of the old tree! That’s the plan!
Okay, almost there!
Yeah, I’m almost there!
Coming!
Yeah!
Lily! Zach! Lily!
Hey, Zach, where are you?
I’m in a big rock right by the tree!
I’m also at a big rock right by the tree!
Really? I don’t see you! You gotta be around here somewhere!
I’m right here!
I don’t see you over here either!
Come on, Zach! Are you playing with me?
I’m not playing with you! I’m by the big rock by the tree!
What are you talking about? I’m also right here! I’ve gone all the way around the rock!
Well, so have I! That doesn’t make any sense!
Wait a minute! Why don’t we both stop by the water? How does that sound?
Okay, good idea!
Okay!
Lily!
Oh, there you are!
Hey, Lily! I found you!
This is great! All we needed to do was find something that we could both see, and then when we got to it, we could find each other!
Absolutely! So what do you want to do now that we found each other, Zach?
I had such a good time looking for you! Why don’t we play hide and seek?
That’s a great idea! Okay, I’ll count and you hide!
Okay, good!
Whoa! Okay, the hill was too steep!
Oh, well then why don’t we go over there where it’s flatter and play hide and seek?
Yeah, okay! Come on, let’s go!
Let’s go down!
Okay, um, you gotta give me a push because it’s really steep here!
Okay, are you ready?
Okay, don’t start counting until I hide!
Okay!
[Music]
I am the Derby, the super go-anywhere Zerby truck!
What’s that? You need me to go over here? No problem!
And he does it! The crowd goes wild!
Okay, one more time! Ready, set, turbo!
Yeah! Okay!
Hey, Axel, what are you doing?
Oh, hey, Zach! I made a flag!
See?
A flag?
Yeah, see? It has my logo on it! It’s got the arrow!
Oh yeah! What are you gonna do with it?
Well, I was trying to plant it on the top of that hill, but I can’t get up there!
That hill looks pretty steep!
Yeah, I don’t know if it’s because this flag is so heavy or if my tires are slipping too much in the dirt!
Well, put the flag down and try, try again! Then you’ll know if you can make it by yourself!
Oh, that’s a good idea, Zach! You should try too!
Oh, okay!
[Music]
Ready, set, dude!
[Music]
Oh no, it’s no good, Zach! My tires are spinning!
I think I can make it!
Go, go, go! I can make it!
Okay, I can do it!
Wow!
[Music]
How did you do it?
I think it’s my tires!
See?
Oh yeah, your tires have those ridges! Those are better for gripping the dirt, right?
Yeah, so maybe I can take the flag for you!
Oh yeah!
Okay, ready, set, turbo!
Oh, Zach!
Oh, this flag is heavy!
Oh, what’s going on? Are your tires slipping?
No, my tires are fine! I just don’t have the strength to carry the heavy flag to the top of the hill!
Backing down!
Oh!
I guess grippy tires aren’t the only thing you need to get the flag up the hill!
Yeah, you have to be super strong as well!
Hmm… I think we need to try, try again and figure out another solution!
Oh, I know who can solve this problem!
Who?
Who has grippy tires just like yours and is super duper strong?
Rex!
Yeah! Let’s ask Chase to find him!
Okay!
Axel to Chase, come in!
Chase, this is Chase! How can I help you?
Can you find Rex and ask him to meet us at the steep hill?
No problem! I’m on my way!
[Music]
Hi, Rex!
Hi! What can I help with?
Well, you’re strong, right, Rex?
Yep, I’m pretty strong!
And you’ve got grippy tires, right?
Yeah, great for holding onto the dirt!
So can you carry my flag from here to the top of that hill?
I can give it the old Zerby try!
Yeah!
Ready, set, turbo!
Go! Let’s go!
[Music]
Oh, my tires are spinning!
What’s wrong, Rex?
Not enough power!
No, I still have lots of power, but even my super grippy wheels aren’t enough! They’re spinning! See? Watch!
Spinning!
Wow! I really thought you could do it, Rex!
Well, that hill is pretty steep, and it’s not just the weight of the flag I have to carry up the hill, but my own weight as well! I’m a heavy truck made for heavy work!
Wow! If Rex can’t do it, how are we going to solve this problem?
I don’t know, but where’s Zurby’s? We try, try again until the problem is solved!
Right, right! Yeah, that’s good!
I wonder what we should try!
Hey, Rex, are you almost done here? We need you back at the construction site!
Hey, Sandy! No, I’m not done yet! Not until we figure out how to get this flag to the top of that hill!
Hmm… I could take it!
But we need a Zerby with super grippy wheels!
Are you kidding? That’s me! See my treads? They’re even better than wheels!
Better than wheels?
Oh, way better than wheels!
Oh, my treads are the best thing around for grip in the dirt!
Yeah, but you also need power!
Oh, I have power too! Bulldozers have to push big rocks and piles of dirt all day long! That takes a lot of power!
It’s true! I don’t really think I could push as much dirt as Sandy does!
So you think you can get my flag to the top of that hill?
Are you kidding? I can do even better than that!
How are you liking the rides, Zerbies?
Wow! You’re not only carrying the flag, Sandy, you can pull me up the hill too!
And me!
She’s pulling us all up the hill!
[Applause]
She did it! Yay!
Wow, Sandy, that was amazing! I may not be the fastest Zerby, but when it comes to pushing or pulling a lot of weight, no one’s better than me!
Oh, let’s put up the flag! I’ve got it!
Hey, Axel, that flag doesn’t have your logo on it!
Yeah, it looks like mine!
Well, I thought if there was one Zerby who deserved to have their flag at the top of this hill, it was Sandy!
Oh, that’s nice! I’ve never had a flag before!
Yeah, see? It even has your logo on it and everything!
Yeah, a gear just like the ones in my treads!
You know what? I think I want treads! Do you think that Mika can make treads for me?
You’d look pretty funny with treads, Axel! Not to mention pretty slow!
Slow?
Okay, never mind! I don’t want treads!
Okay, here it is! Uh, what are we looking at?
A duck!
A duck? Really?
Uh, I don’t see it!
Well, me neither! But the last time I was here, there was a duck here!
Hey, maybe we should try calling it!
Oh, okay!
Bob to duck! Come in, duck!
Well, I guess ducks don’t have radios!
Oh, too bad!
Oh, wait! The noise! It sounds familiar! Let’s go see!
Hey, maybe it’s the duck!
Oh, that’s a big duck!
Come on, Flynn! Wait for me!
[Music]
Strut! I’m ready! Lower away!
Ready to go, Rex!
Hey, it’s not a duck! It’s the construction Zerbies!
What are you Zerbies doing?
We’re moving rocks! There’s a construction project on the other side of the lake!
See?
We need more rocks over here, Zurby!
Wow, that looks like fun!
It is fun, but it’s also taking a long time!
See you later!
Let’s go, Fran!
Hey, wait up, Fran! I have a question!
Okay, we’re waiting!
Why is it taking so long?
Well, we have a lot of rocks to move from one side of the lake to the other, and Rex and I can only carry a few rocks at a time!
Maybe I could help you!
How? Have you ever carried rocks before, Bob?
No, but I’ll just try, try again until I figure it out!
Thanks! That would help!
But then we couldn’t find the duck!
Well, too bad! I’ll let you know if I see it!
Strut, can you please load me up with a rock?
Really?
Yeah!
What are you doing, Bob?
I’m helping Rex and Fred move rocks across the lake!
Fred isn’t the only one that floats!
Hey, I float too!
Oh, maybe I could help!
Yeah, we could both move rocks!
All right, here we go! Swinging the rock, and here comes the rock!
Bob, where do you want it?
Well, I’ve got lots of room up here on my bow, so put it up there in front!
Okay, lowering it down!
Okay, that’s good!
Yeah, that’s okay! Just let me drive across the lake now!
Uh, it looks like that rock is tipping you forward! Your propeller isn’t even touching the water!
Oh yeah! I need my propeller in the water to make me move!
Hey, let me try! Rex puts rocks on his back, so maybe that’s where you should put my rock!
Strut on your back?
Yeah! Yeah! On my tail fin!
Okay, let’s give it a shot! Ready?
Yep!
Did it work?
I can’t see!
No, I tipped up! I don’t think it’s gonna work!
We both need to try, try again!
Trying again!
Uh, yes please! Can you take the rock off, Strut?
Okay, try again! We tried the rock on my front and a rock on your back!
Uh, what’s left?
Our sides!
Yeah, okay! Let’s do it! I’ve got lots of room on my wing! Maybe you can put the rock there, Strut!
Okay, here comes the rock!
Oh, I’ve tipped to the side!
Is it no good?
It’s better than before, but I’m not sure it’s the right solution! I don’t think I could do anything but go in a circle!
Um, let me try! Put a rock on my side, please!
All right, let me pick up a rock!
On your side?
Yep! On my side!
Are you sure?
Yeah, yeah! It’s okay! Let it go!
All right, let it go!
It didn’t work!
Oh, now…
Well, hold on, Bob! Let me lift you out!
I can’t see what’s happening!
Uh, guess where? Try, try again!
Okay, thinking!
Uh, we tried front, we tried back, and we tried sides! We’ve tried everything!
Careful!
Well…
Oh, uh, Strut, can you help me?
Sure, Zach!
What happened?
I was gonna help the construction project by driving this rock the long way around the lake, but it slipped down when I was driving down the hill!
Oh!
Hey, that’s what happened to me!
Yeah, I started with that rock right behind my roof, but coming down the hill, it slipped forward, and then I started tilting forward, and then I couldn’t keep it balanced anymore!
Why?
Well, it’s all about balance! You have to put the rock where it doesn’t make you lose your balance!
Balance, huh?
Here!
Uh, no! A little further back, please!
All right! And how about there?
Uh, good! Nice balance! In the middle is best, but it’s all about testing and finding the best place!
See? Look! I can move back and forth like this!
Great! Okay, see you later, Zerbies!
So not on the front, not on the back, or the sides, but in the middle where it balances!
Yeah! Let’s try it!
Okay, here comes a rock, Bob!
And how is that?
Uh, feels a little bit too far forward, Strut!
Oh, try a little further back!
Uh, behind my eyes, maybe?
All right, maybe here?
Yeah, try it there!
Okay, put it down!
Oh! Oh, hey! Yeah, that feels good! That feels balanced!
All right, you ready, Bob?
My rock is balanced perfectly! Pretty close to my center, just in the right spot so I don’t tip!
Yeah! Let’s go! Ready, set, turbo!
Good luck
