share us on:

In the lesson “Learning with Zerbies: Fun Adventures!”, children explore various activities that emphasize creativity, teamwork, and perseverance. Through fun challenges like spinning in circles, building ramps, expanding a sand pit, and navigating a maze, the Zerbies demonstrate the importance of trying again after setbacks and learning from mistakes. The overarching message encourages kids to embrace experimentation and enjoy the learning process while playing.
  1. What did the Zerbies learn when they tried to build the best jump?
  2. How did Rex and Zach make their sand pit bigger?
  3. Why is it okay to make mistakes when we are learning, just like the Zerbies?

Learning with Zerbies: Fun Adventures!

Spinning in Circles

Hey there! Do you know what donuts are? Not the kind you eat, but the kind you do with a car! You spin around in circles. It’s super fun! To do it, you rev your engine, turn your wheels, and spin. Give it a try!

Building the Best Jump Ever

Our Zerby friends wanted to build the best jump ever! They tried to make a ramp that could jump over a puddle and a tree branch. They tried different shapes: long and low, short and steep, and finally, one that was just right. It was so exciting when they finally made the perfect jump!

Making a Bigger Sand Pit

Rex and Zach wanted to make their sand pit bigger. They found a big sand pit far away and decided to bring sand back to Zerby Town. They tried different ways to carry the sand, like using a piece of bark as a scoop. With teamwork, they made the sand pit bigger and had lots of fun!

Solving the Zerby Town Maze

The Zerbies tried to solve a tricky maze. They got to the center easily, but getting out was hard! They called their friend Chase for help. Even though they didn’t solve it the first time, they kept trying. They learned that sometimes you need to remember your steps or look for clues to find your way.

Learning and Trying Again

Our Zerby friends teach us that it’s okay if things don’t work out the first time. We can always try again and learn from our mistakes. Whether it’s building jumps, carrying sand, or solving mazes, the Zerbies show us that answers are everywhere if we keep looking!

Fun Fact

Did you know that trying new things and making mistakes is a great way to learn? Just like the Zerbies, you can discover new solutions by experimenting and having fun!

Let’s Play and Learn!

Next time you’re playing, remember the Zerbies’ adventures. Try building something new, solving a puzzle, or just spinning in circles. Have fun and keep learning!

  • Have you ever tried to build something like a ramp or a sand pit? What did you use, and how did it turn out?
  • Can you think of a time when you tried something new and it didn’t work out the first time? What did you do next?
  • Why do you think it’s important to keep trying, even if something is difficult at first? Can you share a story about a time you kept trying and succeeded?
  1. Spin Like a Zerby!

Find a safe open space and try spinning in circles like the Zerbies. Notice how you feel when you spin fast or slow. Can you spin in a circle while holding hands with a friend? Talk about how spinning makes you feel and what you see when you spin.

  2. Build Your Own Jump

Using blocks, books, or other safe materials, try to build a ramp for a toy car. Experiment with different shapes and heights. Which ramp makes the car jump the farthest? Share your ramp designs with a friend and see if they can make their car jump too!

  3. Maze Master

Create a simple maze using pillows or toys on the floor. Try to find your way through the maze. Can you remember the path you took? Ask a friend to try your maze and see if they can find the way out. Talk about what was tricky and how you solved it.

Here’s a sanitized version of the transcript, removing any repetitive phrases, filler words, and ensuring clarity while maintaining the essence of the conversation:

**Transcript:**

Hey, what are you doing down there?
I’m doing donuts.
Oh, is there any way you could teach me how to do that?
Sure! You just rev your engine, turn your wheels, and spin.
Okay, here I go!
I’m not really doing donuts though; I’m just sort of going in a circle.
You have to turn your wheels like this. See? Turn, turn!
I don’t know if I’m as good at this as you are. Let me see…
Well, we could do something else instead. I was going to meet up with the construction Zerbies. Do you want to come?
You go ahead; I’m going to practice some more.

[Music]

Alright, you want some more dirt? This is so much fun!
Do you want me to scoop some of this over here?
Yes, I need some more. Thank you!
There you are. There’s some more dirt for you.
You want any more?
I think we’re good.
Alright, where should we put it?
Well, it depends on what we’re building.
Let’s build something we’ve never built before.
Like what?
I don’t know; we’ve built lots of things.

Hey, what are you building today?
Well, the thing is, we don’t know. We wanted to build something different, something new.
Ooh, I know! What about building a jump?
We build jumps all the time.
Yeah, we do—long jumps, short jumps, low jumps, high jumps.
But have you built the best jump ever?
The best jump ever? No, not the best jump ever.
Oh, that sounds neat! Let’s do it!
Alright, let’s go!

Okay, this is going to be the best jump ever! Are you guys excited?
Hey Axel, what’s going on?
We’re going to build the best jump ever!
Hey Zach, come check it out!
You see this puddle right here?
Yeah.
Well, I’d like to be able to jump really far right over this puddle.
Oh, we’ve never built one to go over a puddle. Let’s go!
Oh, wait! In order for it to be the best jump ever, I also want to be able to jump high over that branch.
We’ve never built one to go over a tree branch either. So both high and far?
Yep, no problem! Let’s go!

Okay, this is going to be the best jump ever!
Load it up!
How do you guys think that’s perfect?
Here we go! Way to go, Zerbies! Another great Zerby construction!
Wow, that ramp is looking great! You should try it!
Okay, here I go. Ready, set, turbo!

Great jump, Axel!
Oh, that was a great jump!
Yeah, but I don’t know if it worked.
What do you mean?
Well, you see, this jump makes you go far, but you didn’t get over that branch. In fact, you’re not going very high at all.
Oh, right. Good point. Well, we can always try again!
Are we trying again?
Yeah! All we have to do is build another jump so I can go higher.
You got it! Come on, let’s do it!

Woohoo! There we go!
Alright, come on guys, this one’s it!
Wow, this jump looks a lot different than the first one.
Yep, this one’s very short and steep.
Give it a shot, Axel! Good luck with this one!
Okay, ready?
Yeah!

[Music]

Oh yeah, a small problem—I landed in the puddle of mud.
Yeah, but did you see how high you went? You went really high!
But I guess you’re not going so far anymore.
Oh, you’re right. It looks like we’ll have to try again.
Are we trying again?
One more time, everybody! But what shape do we try next?
I don’t know. Let’s take a look at the two jumps because answers are everywhere.
Okay, let’s go!

Hey, you know what I noticed?
Look at the shape of this jump. You see how it’s long and really low?
Well, this jump lets you go really far, right?
Yeah.
Okay, now check the other jump. See how the shape is really different? Instead of long and low, it’s short and really steep.
So what if we build something that was in between the two shapes?
Well, do you think that’ll work?
The only way to find out is to try again!
I love trying again!

Alright, looking good, guys!
Hey Axel, it’s done!
Do you think it’ll get me all the way over here?
Well, it’s higher than the first jump but lower than the second jump, so it might.
But there’s only one way to find out—it’s time for me to try it!
Okay, this is going to be great! Ready, set, turbo!

[Music]

Wow! Right over the branch and clear across the puddle! Fabulous fenders, I did it!
Alright, best jump ever!
So, now what?
Oh, I know! Jump with me on your back!
Okay, that’s a great idea! Hang on!
Here we go!

[Music]

Nothing’s happening!
Yeah, nothing’s happening. I’m going fast!
No, no, no! I’m going! Can’t you feel it? You feel the wind!
What if I push with my wheels out and then you go fast?
Okay, here I go! Ready, set, turbo!
Oh, okay! Where to go, Axel?
Oh, thanks, but I have to do it again.
Okay, ready, set, turbo!
Nice try!
Okay, I’ll do it again. Ready, set, turbo!

[Music]

What do you want to do today, Rex?
Oh, I don’t know. How about we play in the sand?
Oh, that’s a great idea! Let’s go to the Zerby Town sand pit!
Yeah, let’s go!

There it is, the Zerby Town sand pit!
I wish it was bigger.
It really is small, but it’s really close to home.
That’s true! Come on, let’s play!
Okay, I’m going to go!
Wait, you have to move!
Okay, I’ll come in this side and then you can fit in.
I just don’t know if we’re both going to fit.
Yeah, you’re right. It’s too bad our sand pit isn’t bigger.
Why don’t we get some more sand and we can make it bigger?
Oh, that’s a great idea! But where?
There’s a big sand pit, but it’s kind of far away. Come on, I’ll show you!
Woohoo! Let’s go!

Wait, is it this way?
Am I going the wrong way?
Oh no, you’re right! Come on, Rex! Right behind you!
Is it over here?
No, it’s a little further.
Is it in this tree?
No, there’s no sand in the tree!
Come on!
Okay, I’m coming!
Are we almost there yet?
Nope, not yet.
Boy, this place is far!
I told you it was!
Wow, we made it!
Hey, this is great! We should just play here when we want to play in the sand.
Yeah, but it’s really far from Zerby Town.
Oh yeah, okay, let’s get some sand and haul it back to Zerby Town!
If it’s hauling sand you need, I’m your Zerby! Watch this!

Alright, Rex, back to Zerby Town!
Woohoo!
How you doing, Rex?
No problem! Carrying sand is what I do best!
I got stuck on my back!
Okay, I’ll get off!
Okay, you’re strong!
Thank you! Let’s keep going!
Okay, just a little more. Just keep backing up a little more and… okay, dump it right there!
Right here?
Yeah, right there!
Okay, here we go! Dump!

Alright, more sand! This is great!
Hey, look! The sand pit’s getting bigger!
Yeah, but not a lot bigger.
Well, I’ve only done one load. There’s enough sand for lots of loads!
How many more loads do you think we’ll need?
A lot more! This could take forever!
You’re right, Rex. Hauling all this sand by yourself just isn’t going to work.
Well, you know what we say when something doesn’t work right? Try, try again!
So how are we going to haul more sand?
Well, maybe I could help you!
Of course! That’s a great idea! Come on, let’s go back!
Okay, good! Let’s go!
Wait, Zach, which way?
It’s this way!
Zach, that way? Really? Are you sure?
I know for sure!
Yep, come on!
I’m coming!

Yay! The sand pit really is a long drive, though!
Okay, what do I do with this pile, Rex?
Well, first I have to get some in my bucket here.
Okay, there we go!
Wow! And now what?
Just drive to the bottom of the pile there.
Like this?
Yeah! Now I’ll drive up, and when I get to the top, I’ll dump the sand on top of you! You ready?
I’m ready! Dump away!

Alright, dumping!
Hey, look at me! I’m hauling sand!
What do I do now, Rex?
Well, come on! We have to drive back!
Okay!
Okay, look at me! I’m driving with my sand!
I’m driving with my sand and I’m hauling it!
Zach, you dropped all your sand!
I did?
Yeah!
Oh no! There’s still a little bit there, but I don’t think that’s going to be enough.
Yeah, you’re right. I guess I don’t have a nifty bucket to hold the sand like you do. I guess this idea didn’t work.
It’s okay! We can always try again!
You’re right, Rex! What should we do differently?
Well, why don’t we look around? Answers are everywhere!
Oh, good idea! Do you see anything, Rex?
No, nothing back there.
Um… oh, tree! I don’t see anything yet.
I don’t either.
Oh, hey! Maybe… hey Rex, come and look at this!
Oh, what is it, Zach?
Look at this bark! It looks like a scoop!
Yeah, it’s sort of the same shape as my dump bucket! I bet I could use this bark to carry sand!
Oh yeah, I bet it would hold a lot of sand!
Okay, let’s take it back to the sand pit! Help me get it on my roof!
Okay, let’s do it!

Alright, let me try this again with my fancy new scoop!
Okay, I think it’s going to work! Are you ready?
Okay, all set! Dump!
Hey, look at that! It fits on there!
Okay, just let me back up.
Hey, how’s it working?
I think it works really well! Look at that!
Alright, let’s go back to Zerby Town!
Oh, I have to get a load too!
Oh, okay! I’ll stay here!

There we go! Yay! Back to Zerby Town!
Back to Zerby Town! Come on, Zach!
I’m coming! This is heavy!
Sure it is, but you can do it!
Do you think I would make a good dump truck?
Yeah! This hill is steep, but I think I would make a good dump truck!
You would! How you doing?
I’m good!
What? I spilled some! Is that okay?
If I spill some, I’m still a dump truck!
Fine, you’re still a dump truck!
Hey, look, Zach! We’re almost there!

Hey, Rex!
Hey, Zach! What are you doing?
Oh, hi, Lily! I’m helping Rex move sand to the Zerby Town sand pit so we can make it bigger!
Oh, that sounds like fun!
It is! Okay, see you later!
Woo! I’m a dump truck!

Wow, making the sand pit bigger is a great idea!
So is carrying all that sand in that bark scoop! That gives me an idea!
Okay, show me how it’s done, Rex!
First, I dump, then I drive away like this!
Yeah, dump truck!
Okay, here I go!
Wait, my bark doesn’t dump like that, Rex! What do I do?
Uh, just move around!
Oh, okay!
Okay, dump truck! Dump truck! Dumping!
It worked! Hey, it’s bigger already!
Yeah, but we’re still going to need more sand!

Did someone say more sand?
Lily! Spike! What are you guys doing here?
Well, it looked like you were having so much fun hauling sand, we thought we would help!
This is great! Yay! Bigger sand pit!
So how do we get the sand off?
Okay, you have to be dump trucks, so you have to move around really fast and dump your sand off!
Okay, dump truck!
Truck!
[Music]

This way, Rex!
Ha! I’m coming!
We haven’t been down this trail for a while!
Let’s go!
Hey, wait! What’s that over there?
Oh, it’s the Zerby Town maze!
Oh yeah, I forgot all about that! Did we ever solve it?
Nope! Every time we try, we were able to get to the center, but then we got lost and had to call Chase to lead us back out.
Alright, but I have a feeling today’s the day we solve it!
I have that feeling too! Let’s go!
Alright, let’s go!
Behind you!
Alright, let’s go this way!
I’m right there!
Okay, um, let’s go! This looks good! Straight down here!
I think this is the way! And then… and then this way!
Come on, come on! I think you’re right, Zach!
And I’m pretty sure we’ll go! We haven’t hit a dead end yet!
Yep! Go this way over here! Here we go!

Hey, we made it to the center of the maze!
Wait, how do you know?
Because at the center, we built this mud puddle!
Alright, let’s play!

[Music]

Well, that was easy!
No, don’t you remember, Rex? Getting to the center of the maze was always easy! It was getting out that was the tricky part!
Well, we just have to follow the same path we came in on, right?
Good thinking, Rex! So where did we come from?
It was there!
Uh, no, no, it was there!
No, uh, uh-oh! All the exits look the same!
Oh, you’re right! Well, let’s go this way over here! Come on!
Okay, yeah, I’m pretty sure we went around this way over here!
Yep, I think you’re right! And then this way!
Come on, this looks correct! And then we went this way!
I think this is the way!
No, we didn’t go that way!
Alright, hey, why don’t we try over here?
Okay, I don’t know if that’s right, but maybe…
I don’t know! Then around this corner…
Huh, this doesn’t seem right either, Zach!
Oh no! Dead end!
I have no idea where we are!
I think we’re stuck!
That’s ridiculous! Super maze solvers don’t get stuck!
Then where are we?
I have no idea! Maybe we should call Chase!
Zach to Chase! Can you come and help us?
Sure thing, Zerbies! I’ll be right there!

Okay, I can see you from way up here!
Hey, Chase! Can you lead us out?
No problem! First, you back out, then you go left!
There!
Okay, good! Next, turn left!
There!
Here! Now go down that straight way!
Okay, now turn that next corner!
Okay, and you’re out!
We’re out! Yay! Thanks, Chase!
Sorry we had to call you!
Oh, it’s okay, Zach! No Zerby has ever solved that maze!
No Zerby has ever solved it?
Nope! We’d be the first!
Well, I’ll see you later!
Are you thinking what I’m thinking?
Let’s try again!
Right! But what should we do differently this time?
We’ll remember what turns we took, and that way we can get back out!
Okay! Alright, I’ll call out the turns, and you remember!
Alright! First turn, right!
Uh, right! And then next turn is a left!
Okay, right, and then left!
And then we’re going straight!
Right! And then a left!
And then straight!
And then two more rights!
That’s a left!
Two rights, then another left!
And then a straight!
A banana! Then a right! Mud puddle! Bathtub!
Oh no! And here we are!
Rex, I think we should head back before we forget the way!
Okay, okay! Which way do we go?
Uh, left, right… um, then… uh… banana?
Uh, sorry, Zach! I have no idea!
Yeah, it was a lot of turns, Rex!
To Chase! We need some more help!
Thanks for getting us out again, Chase!
There you go! Don’t worry, Zerbies! Like I said, this maze is so hard!
No Zerby has ever solved it!
I’m sure we can do it! We just need to try again!
But what should we do this time?
I don’t know! Let’s look around! Answers are everywhere!
You’re right, Zach! Answers are everywhere! Come on over here!
Do you see anything?
No, not yet!
Oh, hey! Look! A trail of rocks! Let’s follow it!
Okay!
Hey, Phil! You left a trail of rocks!
Hey, Zerbies! I’m just moving some rocks from one pile to another! I must have dropped some!
Wait, Rex! I think I found the answer
