share us on:

In this lesson, the Zerbies embark on an adventure that begins with a mysterious noise and leads to the discovery of a large bowl-shaped hole. After a fun but challenging experience of getting stuck inside, they learn the importance of teamwork to escape and then channel their creativity into building an exciting jump. The lesson emphasizes the value of collaboration, experimentation, and the joy of learning through play.
  1. What did the Zerbies learn about working together?
  2. Why is it important to try new things, just like the Zerbies did?
  3. How did the Zerbies help each other when they were stuck in the bowl?

Welcome to Zerby Town!

Hey there, little friend! Today, we’re going on a fun adventure with the Zerbies. Are you ready? Let’s go!

What’s That Noise?

One morning, the Zerbies heard a funny noise. Was it an engine? No, it was their friend Chase! He was excited because he and the construction Zerbies had finished digging something special. What could it be?

Discovering the Bowl

The Zerbies were curious. Was it a bowl for cereal? Nope! It was a big, round hole with shallow sides, just like a bowl. The Zerbies thought it would be fun to drive in it. Do you think it sounds fun too?

Driving in the Bowl

Axel, one of the Zerbies, zoomed around the bowl. It looked like so much fun! But when all the Zerbies went in, they realized they couldn’t get out. Oh no!

Teamwork Saves the Day

The Zerbies had to think of a way to get out. Lily had a great idea! They lined up and helped push each other out. Teamwork makes everything better, right?

Building the Best Jump Ever

After getting out of the bowl, the Zerbies decided to build something new. They wanted to make the best jump ever! They tried different shapes and sizes until they found the perfect one.

Jumping Fun

Axel was the best jumper in Zerby Town. He showed everyone how to jump high and far. Even Rex, who loved building, wanted to try jumping. With some help, he flew through the air just like Axel!

Learning and Trying Again

The Zerbies learned that sometimes you have to try different things to find the best solution. And remember, answers are everywhere if you look around!

Let’s Have More Fun!

After all the jumping and building, the Zerbies were ready for more fun. They knew that working together and trying new things made every day an adventure.

Join the Zerbies!

Now it’s your turn! What fun things can you build or try today? Remember, just like the Zerbies, you can always find a way to have fun and learn something new!

  • What do you think it would feel like to drive around in a big bowl like the Zerbies did? Have you ever tried something that seemed fun but was a little tricky?
  • Can you think of a time when you worked with friends or family to solve a problem, just like the Zerbies did to get out of the bowl? What did you do together?
  • If you could build anything for fun, like the Zerbies’ jump, what would you build and why? How would you make sure it’s safe and fun for everyone?
  1. Build Your Own Bowl: Gather some toy cars and a shallow container or a large bowl. Let the children drive their toy cars around the inside of the bowl, just like the Zerbies did. Ask them to observe what happens when the cars go up the sides. Can they make the cars go all the way around without stopping? Encourage them to try different speeds and angles. Discuss why teamwork might be needed if the cars get stuck.

  2. Teamwork Challenge: Create a simple obstacle course using pillows, cushions, or small boxes. Have the children work in pairs or small groups to navigate through the course. Encourage them to help each other, just like the Zerbies did when they were stuck in the bowl. After completing the course, ask them how teamwork helped them succeed and what strategies they used to help each other.

  3. Design a Jump: Provide materials like cardboard, blocks, or small ramps for the children to design their own jumps. Let them experiment with different shapes and sizes to see which one allows their toy cars to jump the farthest. Ask them to think about what makes a good jump and how they can improve their designs. Encourage them to share their findings with the group.

Sure! Here’s a sanitized version of the transcript:

[Music]

Hey, is that noise your engine?

No, it’s not my engine.

Oh, it must be Chase!

Hi, Chase!

Hi, Zerbies! How’s it going this fine morning?

Hi, Jace! What’s up?

Me and the construction Zerbies have finished digging the bowl. Everybody’s going to check it out!

Wow!

Well, see you later, fellas!

Bye!

Wait, what’s a bowl?

I don’t know. Let’s go find out!

Do you think it’s like a bowl for cereal or something?

I don’t think it’s that kind of a bowl, is it?

Oh no, I can’t see through your tires!

Oh, there it is!

Wow, spinning spark plugs! It’s amazing!

Hi, everybody!

Hi, Zack! Hi, Axel!

Hey, how’s it going?

Good work, Rex! Thanks! This is the last scoop right here.

So what’s the difference between a bowl and a hole?

Oh, it’s pretty much still a hole, but all the sides are shallow, so it sort of looks like a bowl.

So what’s it for?

I don’t know, we just thought it would be fun to build!

You know, I bet it’d be fun to drive!

You think so?

Yeah, watch this!

Alright, Axel, that was great!

I didn’t see it!

Hey, Zack, did you see that? That was amazing!

Axel, do it again!

Alright, here we go!

Yes, I did!

Uh, what are we looking at?

What’s going on, Spike?

This way!

Wow, that was so much fun! Zack, you should try it!

Yeah, let’s go!

I guess we should have taken turns before we all came down here at once, but now that we’re down here, how do we get out?

Uh, Axel?

Oh, um, it’s easy! You just go straight up the sides like I did before.

Okay, wow!

I couldn’t get out. That’s weird.

Let me try!

Go, Zerbies!

Hey, here we go!

Oh, I can’t get any traction!

I’ll help you, Lily! I’ll give you a push!

Oh yeah, okay!

This is… no, it’s not working.

Huh, why can’t we go up the sides like Axel did before?

Well, before I was going really fast when I drove through, but now I don’t even know if I have enough room to get going really fast.

Okay, we’ll just have to try again.

Uh, does anyone have any ideas?

No, I do!

Oh, go ahead, Lily!

Well, what if we all got in a line and then we could all help push each other out?

Oh, that sounds good!

Okay, everyone, yeah, get in a line!

We’re gonna…

Ready?

Keep pushing, Zerbies!

Do you have enough room now to drive up the sides?

I can’t see!

Oh, well, good idea, Jewel! I’m gonna try driving out again!

Oh, I can’t do it! I just can’t get going fast enough!

Well, we’ll just have to try again.

But what will we do differently?

Well, it’s all about getting up enough speed, so maybe we can find a way to go faster.

Oh, great idea, Lily! But I’ve tried everything!

But what do we say when we’re stuck?

Answers are everywhere, so let’s look around and maybe we can come up with an idea!

Usually this works!

Well, there’s got to be something we can do!

Well, maybe there’s something over here or over here or over here!

Hey, hey, what about this way over here?

Hey, this is fun!

Actually, you’re going pretty fast!

I am going fast! This is great!

Keep going fast and then turn and go up the side!

Okay, that’s what’s going on!

Hey, that wasn’t so hard!

Uh, you should try it!

How do we do it?

I’ll show you! It’s easy! You just go round and round and round until you’re going fast enough to get out!

Okay, let’s try!

I saw the whole thing! That was great!

We did it! We made it out of the bowl!

Well, you know what that means!

What?

It means we get to go back in!

Oh yeah! Ready, set, turbo!

Sorry, I’m in your way! I’ll back over here and then you can…

You know what, everybody? We should still take turns. It’s pretty crowded in here!

What are you doing down there?

I’m doing donuts!

Oh, is there any way you could teach me how to do that?

Oh yeah, yeah! You just rev your engines, turn your wheels, and spin!

Okay, here I go!

Yeah, turning my wheels…

I’m not really doing donuts though. I’m just sort of going around in a circle!

Here, turn your wheels like this!

Turn!

I don’t know if I’m as good at this as you are, but…

Oh, let me see!

Uh, no…

Well, we could do something else instead. I was gonna meet up with the construction Zerbies.

Hey, do you wanna come?

You go ahead! I’m gonna practice some more!

Alrighty, there you go, guys! Do you want some more dirt?

This is so much fun for you!

This is going to be great!

Hey, I love it! I’m coming!

Yes, I will go! I need support!

Thank you!

There you are! There’s some more dirt for you!

Want any more?

I think we’re good!

Alright, where should we put it?

Well, it depends on what we’re building.

Let’s build something we’ve never built before!

Like what?

I don’t know, we’ve built lots of things!

Hey, hey guys, what are you building today?

Well, the thing is, we don’t know! We wanted to build something different, something new, something we’ve never built before!

I know! What about building a jump?

Uh, we build jumps all the time!

Yeah, we do!

Yeah, long jumps, short jumps, low jumps, high jumps, jumpy jumps!

Yeah, but have you built the best jump ever?

The best jump ever? No, not the best jump ever!

Oh, that sounds neat! Let’s do it!

Alright, let’s go! Come on!

Hey, Axel, what’s going on?

Well, we’re gonna build the best jump ever!

The best jump ever?

Hey, Zack, come check it out!

I’ve got…

Wait for me!

Okay, okay!

You see this puddle right here?

Yeah?

Well, I’d like to be able to jump really far right over this puddle!

We’ve never built one to go over a puddle!

Let’s go!

Oh, wait, wait! In order for it to be the best jump ever, I also want to be able to jump high over that branch!

We’ve never built one to go over a tree branch either!

So, both high and far!

Yep, no problem! Let’s go!

This is going to be the best jump ever!

These are the best rods ever!

Load it up!

Way to go, Zerbies! Another great Zerby construction!

Wow, that ramp is looking great!

You should try it!

Yeah, it sure is!

Okay, so here we go!

High five, Axel!

Ready, set, turbo!

Great jump, Axel!

Oh, that was a great jump!

Yeah, but I don’t know if it worked!

What do you mean?

Well, you see, this jump makes you go far, but you didn’t get over that branch! In fact, you’re not going very high at all!

Oh, right! Good point!

Well, you know we can always try again!

What’s that? Are we trying again?

Yeah, yeah! All we have to do is build another jump so I can go higher!

You got it! Come on, Zerbies!

Okay, there we go!

Alright, come on, guys!

We did it!

Wow, this jump looks a lot different than the first one!

Yep, this one’s very short and steep!

Hmm, give it a shot, Axel!

Okay, here I go!

Good luck with this one, Axel!

Go forward!

A small problem… I landed in the puddle of mud!

Yeah, but did you see how high you went?

You went really high, but I guess you’re not going so far anymore!

Oh, you’re right! It looks like we’ll have to try again!

Oh, are we trying again?

One more time, everybody!

Oh, but what shape do we try next?

Oh, I don’t know!

I know! Let’s take a look at the two jumps because answers are everywhere!

Okay, let’s go! Come on!

Hey, you know what?

What?

Look at the shape of this jump!

You see how it’s long and really low?

Yeah!

Well, this jump lets you go really far, right?

Yeah, okay!

Now check the other jump!

See how the shape is really different?

Instead of long and low, it’s short and really steep!

Hmm…

So what if we built something that was in between the two shapes?

Well, do you think that’ll work?

The only way to find out is to try!

Try again!

Alright!

Looking good, guys!

Hey, Axel, actually, it’s done!

It’s done?

Do you think it’ll get me all the way over here?

Well, it’s higher than the first jump, but it’s lower than the second jump, so it might!

But there’s only one way to find out, right?

It’s time for me to try it!

Okay!

Wow! Right over the branch and clear across the puddle!

Fabulous fenders, I did it!

Alright, Axel! Best jump ever!

Okay, that’s a great idea!

Okay, hang on!

Here we go!

Okay, yeah, yeah!

Nothing’s happening!

Nothing’s happening!

No, no, no, no, no!

I can’t!

Can’t you feel it when I push with my wheels?

Get out and then you go fast and I’ll push!

Hey, I’m ahead of you guys!

Yeah, let’s go!

Come on, Zerbies! Let’s do some jumps!

Okay, watch me! Watch me!

Okay!

Yeah, jumps are fun!

Yeah, come on! I know there’s a great one!

Okay, this way, this way!

This is the jump I was telling you about!

Oh, I remember building that one!

You did a great job on this one, Rex!

This jump is really amazing!

Watch this!

No, wait, Axel!

What?

What?

I want to watch!

Oh, me too! Let’s go over there!

Oh, alright, come on!

Okay, I’ll get ready!

Ready?

Okay, is everybody ready?

Are you ready?

Yup!

Okay, alright!

Oh, ready!

So, how was it?

You’re a really good jumper, Axel!

Yeah, well, you know why? Because I love jumping!

Let me try my turn!

Alright, Zack!

Alright!

Are you ready?

Ready, set, turbo!

Alright, Zack! Did you see that?

Yeah! When you two do jumps, it sure looks like fun!

I love watching Axel jump!

Do another one, Axel!

With pleasure!

Okay, okay!

He’s definitely the best jumper in Zerby Town!

I know!

Okay, here I come! Ready, set, turbo!

I think I’d like to try to jump really!

Uh, I thought you liked building jumps!

Oh, I do! Nothing’s more fun than building jumps!

But you made it look like so much fun, Axel!

I think I’m gonna give it a try!

Well, that’s great!

Rex will watch!

Yeah, yeah! Go, Rex!

Here I go! Ready, set, turbo!

Hey, I didn’t jump!

Yeah, your back wheels didn’t get off the ground there!

Why didn’t I fly into the air like Axel did?

I don’t know, it just happens naturally with me!

Well, that’s no fun! I want to try again!

Okay, let’s go!

Wait, what are we gonna do differently?

Yeah, we should change something!

Hmm… do you have any ideas, Zack?

Oh, actually, I do! If you want to fly through the air, maybe you need to be light!

Yeah, maybe you should dump that load of dirt! It might make you lighter!

Oh, good idea, Zack!

I’ll just dump it right here!

There we go!

Um, you got a little bit more in there!

Oh, okay! Dumping more!

There! Is that it?

Well, that’s it!

Yeah!

Okay, here I go! Ready, set, turbo!

Oh, that was better!

Yeah, that was great driving!

Yeah, well, it was fun, but you know I want to go even higher!

Hey, let’s try again!

Okay, but you’ve already dumped your dirt, so you’re as light as you can get!

So what else can we do?

Hmm… what makes you so good at jumps, Axel?

I don’t know!

Well, let me look at both of you!

Um, Axel looks a lot faster than you, Rex!

He is faster! Much faster!

Do you think going fast has something to do with jumps?

I bet it does!

Do you think you can go faster, Rex?

I might be able to go faster if I can get more of a run-up so I can get to top speed!

Oh, that’s a good idea!

Okay, I’m gonna try it!

Uh, from here?

No, a little bit further!

Yeah, okay!

Uh, here?

No, a little bit more!

Here?

Okay, that’s good!

I can’t even see him!

Yeah, me neither!

Okay, ready, set, go ahead!

Well, what do you think?

Well, that was better!

It was better!

Oh yeah, definitely better!

I still don’t think you’re going as fast as Axel was though!

I was going as fast as I could!

Was that enough of a jump for you?

I like building jumps a lot, but just once I want to do a jump like Axel does and fly through the air!

So you want to…

Yep! Try again!

I think going faster is the answer!

But you can’t drive any faster, can you, Rex?

Nope! That was as fast as I go!

Maybe we’ll look around and see if we can come up with ideas!

Answers are everywhere!

Okay, I’ll go over here!

Let’s see… uh, rock?

No, rock’s not gonna make Rex go faster!

Hey, pine needles! Are pine needles fast?

Uh, no, they’re not moving!

Hey, uh, big log! Will that work?

Uh, no!

Hey, Rex! Look how fast you’re going!

Yeah, I am going fast!

What’s going on?

It’s because we’re going down a hill!

Woo! I love hills!

Look at me!

Uh-oh! There isn’t a jump at the bottom of this hill!

Hey!

What?

I’ll be right back!

Hey, Max! Where are you going?

Hey, uh, where’s Rex going?

I don’t know!

Excuse me!

Wow!

Yeah, what’s the sand for?

It’s so I can make a jump at the bottom of this hill!

Oh, that’s smart!

That is!

It’s a great jump!

You ready, Rex?

Ready!

Go for it!

Ready, set, turbo!

Did you see me? I flew! I really did it!

Yeah!

Hey, do you want to do it again?

Nope! I did it once! That’s good enough for me!

Come on, let’s go!

Zach, can you believe that we saw Rex jump?

Yeah, that was great!

Wow!

Did you see me?

Never come down!
