In the lesson “Let’s Help Chase Get Down!”, the Zerbies demonstrate the importance of teamwork and perseverance as they work together to help their friend Chase, who is stuck in a tree. Through creative problem-solving, they build two short ramps instead of one long one, allowing Chase to safely descend. The story emphasizes that by collaborating and trying different approaches, challenges can be overcome, reinforcing the message to never give up.
  1. What did the Zerbies do to help Chase get down from the tree?
  2. How did the Zerbies work together to find a solution for crossing the lake?
  3. What important lesson did the Zerbies learn by the end of their adventure?

Let’s Help Chase Get Down!

Once upon a time, in a place called Zerby Town, there were some friendly vehicles called Zerbies. One day, Chase, a little Zerby, got stuck high up in a tree! His friends, Strut and Lily, wanted to help him get down.

Trying to Bend the Tree

Strut tried pulling Chase down, but it didn’t work. Lily had a clever idea. She noticed that when Strut pulled, the tree bent a little. Maybe if they could bend the tree more, Chase could slide down!

Strut tried again, but the tree was too strong. They needed to think of another way. Zerbies never give up; they always try, try again!

Building a Ramp

Then, they thought about building a ramp. A ramp would help Chase get down safely. Rex, another Zerby, helped build the ramp. But the ramp was too long and took too much time to build.

They needed a faster solution. Zerbies always look for answers everywhere!

Two Short Ramps

Axel, another Zerby, had a bright idea. Instead of one long ramp, they could build two short ramps. This way, the path would be open for racing too!

They built the ramps, and it worked perfectly! Chase was able to come down safely, and everyone was happy.

Finding a Faster Path

Later, the Zerbies wanted to find a faster way to Gravel Gully. They realized that the path they used was not straight. A straight path would be much faster!

But there was a lake in the way. They couldn’t drive over water, so they needed another plan.

Crossing the Lake

Bob Zerby had a raft and offered to take them across the lake. The Zerbies put on their life jackets and hopped on the raft. It was a fun ride, and they reached Gravel Gully quickly!

Playing and Solving Problems

After reaching Gravel Gully, the Zerbies had fun playing tag. But they also remembered to solve problems. They found a log blocking the trail and needed to move it.

By working together, they figured out how to move the log safely off the trail. Zerbies always try, try again until they find a solution!

Happy Ending

In the end, the Zerbies learned that teamwork and trying different ideas can solve any problem. They had a great day full of fun and adventure!

Remember, just like the Zerbies, never give up and always try, try again!

  1. Have you ever tried to solve a problem with your friends or family? What was the problem, and how did you work together to find a solution?
  2. Chase’s friends tried different ideas to help him get down from the tree. Can you think of a time when you had to try different ways to solve a problem? What did you learn from it?
  3. The Zerbies used teamwork to move a log off the trail. Why do you think working together is important when solving problems? Can you share a time when teamwork helped you?
  1. Build Your Own Ramp: Gather some toy cars and blocks or books to create ramps. Try making different ramp lengths and angles. Observe how the cars move down each ramp. Which ramp helps the car go faster or slower? Discuss why some ramps work better than others.

  2. Problem-Solving Adventure: Create a small obstacle course using household items like pillows, boxes, or chairs. Pretend your toy car is a Zerby that needs to get from one side to the other. Work with a friend or family member to find different ways to overcome the obstacles. Can you build a bridge or a tunnel? Share your solutions and see how many different ways you can find to complete the course.

  3. Teamwork Challenge: In a group, think of a simple problem you might face at home or school, like reaching a high shelf or organizing toys. Discuss as a team how you might solve this problem using teamwork, just like the Zerbies. Draw a picture of your solution and explain how working together made it easier.

I think to get him out, you’d have to lift him up and then down. I see, well I can’t lift him up; he’s too high. I’ll set you back, Chase. Okey-dokey. Pulling straight down just isn’t working.

Oh, okay, don’t panic, Chase. We’ll get you down. We’re Zerbies; we try, try again. Hmm, you know, Strut, when you were pulling Chase, the tree bent a bit. Maybe we can get it to bend enough so Chase can slide right out.

Well, that’s a great idea, Lily. Do you think you’re strong enough to bend the whole tree over, Strut? I think so. Let me get a good hold on it under the hook.

Go, Strut!

Yeah, got it. All right, get ready to jump off.

Never readier!

Okay, here we go.

[Music]

The tree is shaking, but it’s not bending. Come on, let’s help push!

Yeah, good idea!

Oh, that’s a good idea.

[Music]

It didn’t work.

No, huh?

No, it didn’t. Well, we’ll just have to try, try again. Come on!

Am I gonna be stuck up here forever?

Don’t worry, Chase. Zerbies do not give up.

That’s right! We just have to try, try again. But what should we do differently?

Hmm, well, we have to get this tree to bend. I don’t know why it’s not working. You know, the only time we saw the tree really bend was when Strut tried to pull Chase out.

Yeah, and Chase is near the top of the tree. What are you thinking, Lily?

Well, I’m thinking maybe we need to try pulling the tree from the top instead of the bottom to bend.

Oh, good thinking, Lily!

Yeah, let’s give it a try. Strut, do you think you can get your hook all the way up to the top there?

I think so. Everyone, stand back!

Okay, spinning and through the line.

All right!

Okay, that was a great shot. Here we go; I’m going to start pulling.

Okay, I’m ready, Strut. Here we go!

Well, it’s bending!

[Applause]

It’s bending! Ah, I may be big, but I’m still not bigger than a tree. This is hard, but it’s working!

I think so. Here I come!

Oh, don’t worry, Chase; I’ll get you!

Oh, almost! I got you a little lower.

Okay, just push me forward a little.

Keep going!

Okay, I’ll just get…

[Music]

How do you feel, Chase?

Well, I feel fine, but all this excitement really tucks a guy out.

Try something else.

Hmm, I was thinking maybe we should just build a ramp.

A ramp? Oh, that’s a great idea!

Yeah, we could just build it all the way up to the stump there, and that would make getting up there really easy.

Okay, hold on, Zack.

Rex, come in!

Rex, it’s something else!

I’m on my way!

Great, thank you!

Oh, it’s looking good!

Yeah, look at it; it’s really long!

Okay, one ramp is halfway done. What do you think?

It’s nice!

It’s kind of huge and it’s sort of blocking the trail.

Sorry, Zack, but a ramp that has to get all the way up to the stump has to be really long; otherwise, it would be too steep to drive up.

Well, how long will this ramp take to build?

Well, it’s a big ramp, so let’s see… we’ll probably be able to finish it by tomorrow.

Tomorrow? I could never wait that long!

There must be another answer to the problem.

Sure, we just have to try, try again until we find it. Let’s look around; answers are everywhere, right?

Let’s go!

We’ll be back!

Okay, bye!

Let’s go this way!

Yeah, okay, that way. You look, you go that way, I’ll go this way.

Oh, hey! Maybe we could use this log.

No, we already used logs.

Oh, what about some grass?

I know! Or maybe some moss?

That’s not gonna work.

There’s lots of leaves over here, but that’s not going to help.

Hmm, you find anything, Axel?

Yeah, look! Look at this one branch right here.

What?

You see how it goes up a little way? And then that other branch is sitting on top of it. Maybe that’s the answer.

I don’t get it.

Well, instead of building one long ramp up to the stump, let’s build two short ramps.

Yeah, that just might work! That way, the path will be open again for racing!

Yeah, okay!

Fill me up again, Bill!

This is cool!

Thank you! Here I go!

Hey, guys! The ramp’s finished!

Oh yeah, look! It goes all the way up there, and then it turns, and then it goes up another little way all the way up to the stump!

Yeah! All right, I’m very proud of it!

Who’s gonna try this out?

Well, you know what? I think you should, Zack, ’cause you’re better at going off-road.

Okay, I can’t wait! Go, Zack!

Okay, easy, easy! Wow, you’re doing great! Way to go in the turn!

[Applause]

Hey, it’s a great view from up here!

Yeah, you can see everything!

Hey, look! There’s Lily! Let’s call her!

Oh, good idea, Axel!

To Lily! Axel to Lily, do you read me? Over!

Oh hi, Axel! I read you loud and clear! Where are you?

Uh, Zack, Rex, and I built this great ramp! Uh, I’ll tell you how to get there!

Hey, where’d you go?

Hi, guys!

Hello!

Hey, how’d you get up here so fast?

Well, I saw a ramp and I just drove up it!

I don’t get it, Lily. We went as fast as we could! We even got up early!

Is it this way?

Yeah, then turn right up ahead.

Oh, I remember! Then we go down this way, right?

Yep!

Yeah, okay, and then… oh, careful! There’s a plant!

There’s a plant here!

Well, we just have to try, try again tomorrow.

I don’t know if we can drive much faster than we did today.

Hey, have you noticed something about this trail?

What?

Well, it doesn’t go in a straight line; it kind of goes all over the place, right?

A straight line would be faster! Much faster!

How about tomorrow we get the construction Zerbies and build a road that goes straight?

Good thinking, Lily!

Good morning, everyone!

Good morning, Betty!

What can we help you with today?

I thought we’d build a road! Building roads is what we do best!

We’re rebuilding it from here straight to Gravel Gully.

Uh-oh!

Oh, I don’t think we can do that!

Why not?

Because the lake is in the way!

Oh, Phil’s right! We can’t build a road on the water!

Huh, well I guess we’ll have to go around the lake.

Where’s Gravel Gully from here?

Right across the water there!

But you’d have to drive all the way around Zerbytown Lake to get there!

Oh, so we can’t go in a straight line! No wonder it always takes so long!

Well, we’ll just have to try, try again!

Let’s look around; answers are everywhere!

But how? We can’t fly across the water like Chase, and we can’t drive on top of the water!

That’s it!

Oh, what’s it, Zack?

Come on, Lily!

Oh, okay! This way, come on!

Hi, Bob Zerbies!

Hey, is there a way you can take us to Gravel Gully? We’ve got to go in a straight line!

Well, of course! It’s just across the lake!

Could not fly by water!

But we aren’t boats!

Not to worry! Just hop aboard my raft and I’ll take you over! But you have to put on your life jackets first!

Life jackets?

Yep!

Life jackets? Haha! Yours is over there!

Oh, okay! Come on, Lily!

Okay, I’ll just go on this side. Here we go!

Oh yeah!

Oh wait, let me… okay, just let me shift.

Okay, shoved over.

Okay, that’s good! I’ll turn around.

Whoa! You all set?

Okay, I’m good! I’m on!

Okay, here we go!

Okay, we’re ready, Bob!

Yep!

Yeah, that’s great!

Thank you!

Look at that over there!

Wow! This is so fun!

This is great!

All right, there you go! The other side of the lake!

Oh, thanks, Bob! Wow, that was fast!

No problem! Gravel Gully’s just up the hill there!

Great sailing with you!

My pleasure! Just give a holler if you want to come back!

Hey, we did it! Gravel Gully! And it’s still morning! We can play all day!

See, a straight line is the fastest way!

Should we take off our life jackets?

We could, but now that we can get to Gravel Gully anytime we want, I’m thinking we didn’t have enough time to do something else fun!

Something else fun? What is it? Come on!

Okay!

[Music]

Are you dizzy?

Dizzy, dizzy! Whoa! Okay, that didn’t work.

Hmm, what do you think we should do now, Lily?

Well, why don’t we just start playing tag again?

Hot tagger!

Oh no! Wake up! Wait up! We can’t do that!

Why not?

We have to solve this log problem! We don’t just want to leave it in the middle of the trail like this!

Yeah, you’re right! Someone might come along and bump into it, just like you did, Zack!

Yeah, anyway, we always try, try again!

Right! Totally true! So what else can we do?

Well, we tried pushing it from both ends and it moved forward, but it stayed on the trail.

Hmm, and we tried pushing it from one end, and then it just turned around and around in circles, but it didn’t move at all.

Let’s try, try again!

Okay, let me think… what haven’t we tried?

Hmm… I’m gonna tag Zack again! It’s so much fun!

Chloe, what are you doing?

Oh, you’re not supposed to be playing now! We’re supposed to be looking for answers!

No, but I don’t want to look anymore! I want to play tag! It’s so much fun!

Come on, Zack!

Okay, well, no! We should be looking, not playing tag!

Okay, you’re right! I’m sorry! I’ll just go look over here again!

Okay, what now? Where was I?

Okay, the log! So we have the log and we have to do something with it.

[Music]

Hey!

Oh, you’re so busy tagging me, you tagged me right off the trail!

Oh, sorry, Zack!

Hey, wait a minute! That’s it!

Lily, you’re a genius!

I am?

Why?

How?

Really?

You pushed me off the trail!

Yeah, I know! I’m sorry!

No, that’s it! You see, you pushed me in two different ways!

Oh, well, I’m double sorry then!

No, no! Don’t you see? That’s what we need to do with the log! We need to use both kinds of pushing! Both at one end first, and then at both ends!

Oh, that’s it! I think you’re the genius, Zack! I’ve got a good feeling about this plan!

Great! Okay, let’s try, try again!

Yeah!

Okay, so we both go on one end first, and we’re gonna turn the log.

Okay, ready?

Okay!

Yeah, but not too far! I don’t want to get dizzy again!

Right!

Okay, ready, set, turbo!

Okay!

Does it not too far?

Oh, almost!

Look at there!

All right, that ought to do it! So it’s sideways now!

Okay, so now we’re gonna get on each end!

Yeah!

Yeah, come on!

Okay!

Okay, ready?

Ready!

[Music]

Oh, hey! There’s a rock in the middle of this path here, and I ran right into it!

That’s weird!

I guess having a rock in the middle of the path may not be the best idea!

Well, it does protect the flower, but you’re probably right! I guess I should go pick up that rock!

We have to find something better to put in the middle of the trail!

Well, why don’t we try, try again?

All right! Answers are everywhere!

Yeah! You stay and watch the flowers, Rex, and I will be right back!

Come on, man! I’m coming!

Why am I always the one watching the flowers?

Huh, let’s see what we can use!

Oh!

[Music]

Wait a minute!

Uh, hey! What’s this?

Oh, what a cute little piece of birch bark!

That won’t help; it’s too small!

Let’s see now… oh, what about this log?

No, I don’t think this log will work, but still fun pushing it!

Oh, the log’s getting away! Come back, log!

Have you seen my log?

Maybe this is the answer!

Look at this, Rex!

But that’s just a mound of dirt in the middle of the road!

Yeah, but instead of driving straight, this mound kind of pushes me to the side!

Hmm, do you think this might work?

It might! Why don’t we try building a mound like that?

All right, let’s do it!

Wait for me!

Sorry about that, Spike!

Why were you in the middle of the path?

Well, there’s this flower that is not for parking!

Exactly! I know, but this is gonna work! It’s gonna be great!

I think so!

Lily, you’re back!

He found a mound in the middle of a path over there!

A mound?

Yeah!

And we think it’s a great answer!

I don’t get it! A mound of dirt?

Yeah! It will work great! You’ll see!

Back it up, Rex!

Okay, here I come!

Stop!

Okay, great!

I don’t get it! How will a mound of dirt stop Zerbies?

Well, I learned that we don’t need to stop them; just make them go around!

Okay, all done! See?

Oh, I get it! They’ll go around!

Come on, let’s try it out!

Back over here! Come on!

Are there any Zerbies coming?

[Music]

Now the flower’s safe, and no Zerby needs to slow down!

Thanks a lot, Rex!

Anytime!

And the best part is I can get out from the middle of the trail here!

Sorry, Axel!

Hey, Zack! Why are you in the middle of the path?

Oh, well, we were just getting out of the way!

Well, you should have got out of the way because the path isn’t for parking! That’s why we built it!

We had this whole mound, and mounds, and we built this house, for example!

I’m sorry about that!

[Music]

Sorry!
