The Scary Story Begins

Get ready for the scariest story ever! It’s so scary that we won’t even use pictures, just words. Are you ready? Here we go!

One rainy day, in a house just like yours, thunder was booming, and rain was pouring. It was almost midnight when the lights went out. The boys woke up with a scream, feeling very scared. They had no idea what was about to happen next.

Strange Noises

First, they heard a creak, then a crack. What could it be? Their little hearts were beating fast. Then they heard a thump, thump, thump!

They hid under their covers, thinking a monster was coming. But soon, the scary sounds started to fade away. Was the monster gone?

Curiosity and Courage

Then they heard a clang and a bang. Something fell in the kitchen! What was happening? Even though they were scared, they were also curious.

They decided to be brave and got out of bed. With blankets over their heads, they stood at the door. They heard a whimper from their dog. Was he okay?

The Big Surprise

Everything went quiet, except for a drip, drop, drip, drop. The boys had enough of hiding. They opened the door and walked down the hall, ready for anything.

When they entered the room, they were shocked! There was no monster, just their dad with a spoon in his hand. They laughed and asked, “What are you doing?”

Dad was eating ice cream! He said, “I’m sorry I scared you. I just wanted a midnight snack!”

The End of the Adventure

So, all those scary sounds were just Dad getting ice cream. What a funny ending! I hope you enjoyed the story. Thanks for reading with me today. See you next time!

  • Have you ever heard strange noises at night that made you feel scared? What did you think they were, and how did you feel when you found out what they really were?
  • In the story, the boys were brave and decided to find out what was making the noises. Can you think of a time when you were brave? What happened, and how did you feel afterward?
  • Sometimes things that seem scary at first can turn out to be funny or not scary at all. Can you share a time when something like that happened to you?
  1. Sound Detective: At home, listen carefully to different sounds around you. Try to identify what makes each sound. Is it the refrigerator humming, the clock ticking, or maybe the wind blowing outside? Write down or draw pictures of the things you hear and share them with your family. Discuss how these sounds might seem different or even scary at night when you can’t see what’s making them.

  2. Create Your Own Story: Think about a time when you heard a strange noise. What did you imagine it could be? Write a short story or draw a comic strip about your adventure. Include what you thought the noise was and what it actually turned out to be. Share your story with your classmates or family and see if they have similar experiences.

  3. Bravery Badge: Talk about a time when you felt scared but decided to be brave, just like the boys in the story. What helped you feel brave? Draw a picture of yourself being brave and create a “Bravery Badge” to remind you of your courage. Wear it proudly and share your story with a friend or family member.

What will happen when two little brothers hear strange noises in the night? Could it be a monster? Is it a beast? Let’s find out as we read “The Scariest Story You’ve Ever Heard.” If you have a copy, go get it so you can read along with me.

I’m down to read “The Scariest Story You’ve Ever Heard” by Ron Karis, designed by Arthur Lynn. Get ready for the scariest story you’ve ever heard! It’s much too scary for pictures, so I plan to use words. Chills will be spreading from your head to your toes. Actually, I’m a bit scared to begin, but here’s how it goes.

One dreary day in a house just like yours, thunder was booming and the rain did pour. It was minutes till midnight when the power went out. The boys woke up with a scream and a shout, lying in bed and certainly scared. For what happened next, they were not prepared.

First, there was a creak, then there was a crack. What could it be, and would it attack? Their tiny hearts began to rapidly pump, but it only became worse when they heard a thump, thump, thump.

They cowered in fear and hid under their covers. The monster approaching could easily eat brothers. But the next sound he made began to fade. Even though the intruder went further away, this would not be the end of his haunting that day.

He began to clang as he was stomping around. The boys heard a bang as something fell to the ground. They thought this could not be good, for now, the boys knew he stood in the kitchen. What was he looking for? Why was he furious? As scared as they were, they were also quite curious.

Against better judgment, they got out of their beds and stood at the door, blankets over their heads. First, they heard a whimper from the dog. Did he get eaten for lunch? Then, for a moment, things were eerily silent. If they opened the door, would the beast become violent?

The silence was broken by drip, drop, drip, drop. Was this just a nightmare, and when would it stop? The boys had enough; they knew hiding didn’t matter. As they left their dark room, there was a shriek and a splatter.

They crept down the hall, preparing for doom, but were shocked and surprised as they entered the room. There he was, a spoon in his hand! This was not a horrible monster, but a familiar man. They cried, “What on Earth are you doing?”

Dad couldn’t respond as he was fervently chewing. Their fear turned to laughter with the words that would follow. He took a drink and proceeded to swallow. “I’m sorry I scared you; things are not what they seem. It was all for a bowl of delicious ice cream.”

Were you wondering what all those sounds were? This page will tell you what each sound was. Today, I want to send special thanks to my son Kyle for helping me with my book. Thank you for being such a great son and a great reader. I hope you enjoyed our story today. See you next time!
