Hello, reading friends! It’s Ani here. Have you ever felt worried about what other people think of you? Today, we’re going to meet a girl named Camilla Cream. Camilla was very worried about what others thought, and something very unusual happened to her because of it. Let’s find out what happened in the story “A Bad Case of Stripes” by David Shannon. If you have the book, you can read along with me!
Camilla Cream loved lima beans, but she never ate them. Why? Because she was afraid her friends would laugh at her. Camilla wanted to fit in and be like everyone else. But one day, something strange happened. When she looked in the mirror, she was covered in colorful stripes! She looked like a rainbow!
Camilla’s stripes were not just colorful; they kept changing! When someone said “polka dots,” her stripes turned into dots. When someone mentioned “checkerboard,” her skin changed to look like a checkerboard. Camilla was very confused and didn’t know what to do!
Camilla’s parents called the doctor. The doctor tried to help, but nothing worked. They even called in experts, but the stripes just kept changing. Camilla felt very sad and didn’t want to go to school. She was worried about what everyone would think.
Finally, a wise old lady came to visit Camilla. She gave Camilla some lima beans and told her to eat them. At first, Camilla was scared, but she decided to try. As soon as she ate the lima beans, the stripes disappeared! Camilla learned that being herself was the best thing she could be.
This story teaches us that it’s okay to be different and like different things. We don’t have to worry about what others think. Being yourself is the most important thing. Just like Camilla, we should be proud of who we are!
Thanks for reading with me! Remember, it’s always fun to be yourself and enjoy the things you love. Keep reading and discovering new stories!
Colorful Stripes Experiment: Let’s explore how Camilla’s stripes changed with different patterns. Gather some colored paper, scissors, and glue. Cut out different shapes like stripes, polka dots, and checkerboards. Create a collage on a piece of paper using these shapes. Discuss with a friend or family member how it feels to have different patterns and colors. How does it feel to be unique?
Lima Bean Planting: Just like Camilla loved lima beans, let’s try planting some! Get a small pot, soil, and lima bean seeds. Plant the seeds and water them regularly. Observe how they grow over time. Talk about how taking care of something you love can be rewarding. How does it feel to watch your plant grow?
Be Yourself Storytime: Think about something you love that might be different from what your friends like. Draw a picture or write a short story about it. Share your story with a classmate or family member. Discuss why it’s important to enjoy what you love, just like Camilla learned. How does it feel to share something unique about yourself?
Sure! Here’s a sanitized version of the transcript:
