Meet the Toot Fairy

Today, we’re reading a super funny book called “The Toot Fairy,” written by Janet R. Adams and illustrated by Daniel Wlodarski. Have you ever heard of the Toot Fairy? She’s a bit different from the Tooth Fairy you might know. Instead of leaving money for lost teeth, the Toot Fairy leaves silly surprises!

What Does the Toot Fairy Do?

The Toot Fairy flies all over the world, leaving funny surprises for everyone—even the President and his dog! She has a pet named Gassy Gus, but she just calls him Gus. If you had a pet like Gus, what would you name it?

The Toot Fairy was almost called the Flatulence Fairy, and some friends call her Tinker Smell. Can you think of other funny names for silly sounds?

Surprises Everywhere!

The Toot Fairy grows her surprises in a garden. She has to be careful not to overfeed them, or they get extra silly! There are quiet surprises, loud ones, sneaky ones, and even those that follow you from room to room!

She even delivers surprises underwater. They don’t smell, but the bubbles give her away! Sometimes, her surprises come at funny times, like in the middle of a class. One time, a little boy laughed so hard that the Toot Fairy visited him next!

Traveling the World

The Toot Fairy visits amazing places every day. One of her favorite spots is the gassy plains of Africa. She even surprises lions when they’re sneaking up on zebras. That’s why the hyenas laugh so much!

And if you think Santa is busy on Christmas, wait until you see the Toot Fairy on Taco Tuesday! People eat lots of beans, and that keeps her very busy.

Nighttime Adventures

The Toot Fairy only visits when you’re asleep. One night, she almost got caught when she made a loud surprise! But don’t worry, the little girl stayed asleep. Do you think the Toot Fairy makes silly sounds? No way! She saves her best surprises just for you.

Next time you hear a funny sound, remember, it might be a visit from the Toot Fairy!

  1. What do you think it would be like to have a visit from the Toot Fairy? Can you imagine what kind of silly surprise she might leave for you?
  2. If you could create your own fairy that leaves funny surprises, what would you call it and what kind of surprises would it leave?
  3. Have you ever heard a funny sound that made you laugh? What was it, and why do you think it was so funny?
  1. Create Your Own Toot Fairy Story: Use your imagination to create a new adventure for the Toot Fairy. Draw a picture of where she might go next and what funny surprises she might leave. Share your story and drawing with your friends or family and see if they can come up with their own Toot Fairy tales!

  2. Sound Hunt: Go on a sound hunt around your home or school. Listen carefully and try to find different funny sounds. Can you make a list of the sounds you hear? Try to think of funny names for each sound, just like the Toot Fairy has her own special names. Share your list with your classmates and see who can come up with the silliest names!

  3. Garden of Surprises: Just like the Toot Fairy grows her surprises in a garden, you can create your own “garden” of surprises. Use playdough or clay to make different shapes and sizes of “surprises.” Think about what makes each one special—are they quiet, loud, or sneaky? Arrange them in a pretend garden and tell a story about what happens when someone finds them!

Sure! Here’s a sanitized version of the transcript:

“The Tooth Fairy,” written by Janet R. Adams and illustrated by Daniel Wadarski.

I’m sure you’ve heard of the Tooth Fairy, but have you ever heard of the Tooth Fairy? I bet she has visited you! It’s not the most glamorous job. While the Tooth Fairy delivers money for lost teeth, the Tooth Fairy’s gifts are a bit different.

The Tooth Fairy flies around the world delivering silly surprises to everyone and their pets—even the President of the United States and the President’s dog! The Tooth Fairy even has a pet named Gassy Gus, but she calls him Gus for short. If you had a pet like that, what would you name it?

The Tooth Fairy was almost called the Flatulence Fairy, and some of her friends call her Tinker Smell. There are so many ways to say “silly sounds.” Can you think of any others?

She collects little surprises from her garden and has to be careful not to overfeed them, or they can become extra silly! There are lots of surprises she has to grow: quiet ones, loud ones, sneaky ones, super silly ones, and even the kind that can follow you from room to room!

She also delivers surprises underwater. They don’t smell, but the bubbles give her away! Sometimes her deliveries have pretty bad timing, like when she delivered a surprise to a teacher right in the middle of class. A little boy in the front row laughed so hard that the Tooth Fairy visited him next!

She gets to travel to lots of cool places all over the world every day. One of her favorite places to visit is the grassy— or should I say, gassy—plains of Africa. She has even been known to deliver surprises to lions right when they’re trying to sneak up on a zebra. That’s the real reason the hyenas are laughing!

And if you think Santa Claus is busy on Christmas night, you should see the Tooth Fairy on Taco Tuesday! People eat a lot of beans on Taco Tuesdays, and that keeps the Tooth Fairy very busy.

The Tooth Fairy only gets to visit someone when they are sleeping. One night, the Tooth Fairy interrupted her delivery by sending her several loud surprises. Luckily, the little girl didn’t wake up and catch them both! But do you think the Tooth Fairy makes silly sounds? No, never! She saves her best surprises just for you.

And in case you’re wondering, the Tooth Fairy did get even with the Tooth Fairy! The next time you hear a funny sound, remember you just had a visit from the Tooth Fairy. Toodles!

Wasn’t that a funny, silly book? Silly sounds are just part of life, aren’t they? All right, let’s do some shout-outs today! They’re going out to:
