There’s a Reason You Are Here

Every Leaf and Every Wave

Just like every leaf on a tree and every wave in the sea, there’s a special reason for you being here, my dear.

Snowflakes and Stars

Think about the snow that falls on cold days or the stars that twinkle in the night sky. Everything has a reason, even if we don’t understand it yet.

Creatures and the Moon

There are creatures in the ocean that look different from us, but they have a reason to be here, just like you do. The moon lights up the night, and shooting stars are amazing to see. They all have a reason, too!

Why You Are You

If you ever wonder why you are just the way you are—not taller, smaller, or a different color—remember, there’s a reason for everything you do and everything you are.

You Are Special

A long time ago, we wished for you every night. You are the answer to those wishes, with every freckle, finger, and hair. You are the reason for all the things I do, and you make my world complete.

Infinite Reasons

Even though just one reason would be enough, there are countless reasons why you are here. I’m so glad we’re all on this planet together!

See You Next Time!

I hope you enjoyed our story today. Remember, you are special and important. See you next time for more fun stories!

  • Have you ever thought about what makes you special or unique? Can you share something about yourself that you think is special?
  • Just like the leaves, waves, and stars have a reason for being here, what do you think your reason might be? Why do you think it’s important to have a reason?
  • Can you think of a time when you felt really important or needed? How did that make you feel, and why do you think it’s important to feel that way?
  1. Leaf and Wave Exploration: Go outside and find a leaf or look at a wave if you’re near water. Observe its shape, color, and movement. Think about how each leaf and wave is unique, just like you. Draw a picture of your leaf or wave and write one reason why it might be special.

  2. Starry Night Craft: Create your own night sky using black construction paper and stickers or paint to make stars. As you place each star, think about what makes you special and unique. Share with a friend or family member one thing that makes you shine like a star.

  3. Creature Connection: Choose a creature from the ocean, like a fish or a dolphin. Learn one interesting fact about it and think about why it might be important in the ocean. Draw your creature and write down your fact. Discuss with your class or family how every creature, including you, has a special role in the world.

**There’s a Reason You Are Here**
Written by Sarah Shortcake
Illustrated by Alex Shortcake

Like every leaf on every tree,
Or every wave that makes the sea,
One day you’ll know, my dear,
There’s a reason you are here.

Like the snow that falls on the coldest days,
Or how the universe works in mysterious ways,
For every hair on your head, yes, every strand,
There’s a reason, even if you don’t yet understand.

Like the creatures in the deep blue sea
That don’t quite look like you or me,
There’s a reason they’re here too,
Just like there’s a reason for you.

Like the moon that lights the darkest night,
Or a shooting star—oh, what a sight!
There’s a reason for the crashing thunder,
So if you ever wonder,

If there’s a reason you are you,
Not smaller, taller, green, red, or blue,
Why you are the way you are,
And why you do the things you do,
There’s a reason you are you, and I can prove that this is true.

Long ago, every night for you we prayed,
So I know there’s a reason you were made.
Because you are the answer to every prayer,
Your every freckle, every finger, and every hair.

You are the reason for all that I do;
In fact, you are the reason that I am here too.
And although just one would be enough, my dear,
There are infinite reasons you are here.

I’m so glad that we’re all here on this planet together. I hope you enjoyed our story today. See you next time!
