The turtle has a special rock called a “worry rock.” It’s smooth and round, just the right size to hold. When he feels worried, he talks to his worry rock and tells it all his worries. Sometimes, he even puts the rock on his belly button and sends his worries to the rock.

Create Your Own Worry Rock: Find a small, smooth rock that fits comfortably in your hand. Use paints or markers to decorate it with colors and designs that make you happy. Once your rock is ready, practice talking to it whenever you feel worried, just like the turtle in the story. You can even wash it with water to wash your worries away!
Worry Jar Activity: Get a jar and some small pieces of paper. Whenever you feel worried, write or draw your worry on a piece of paper and put it in the jar. At the end of the week, look at your worries with a trusted adult and talk about how you can make them feel smaller. This helps you see that worries can be managed and shared.
Deep Breathing Exercise: Practice taking deep breaths to help calm your mind. Imagine you are blowing up a big balloon. Breathe in slowly through your nose, filling your belly with air, and then breathe out slowly through your mouth, as if you are gently blowing up the balloon. Try doing this five times whenever you feel worried to help you feel more relaxed.

I am feeling anxious and worried, and I do not know what to do with these feelings. What can I do to feel calm again? Should I hide in my shell and never come out? Should I bite my nails? Should I eat all the food in the kitchen to feel better? Should I hold my breath until I get dizzy? Should I say nothing and keep quiet? Should I cry and scream until I fall asleep? Should I cling to something and never let go? Should I pretend these feelings aren’t there? Should I stay close to my caregivers? Should I just complain about it all the time to everybody? What should I do to feel calm again?
It’s okay to feel anxious and worried sometimes. Everyone feels anxious and worried from time to time. It’s also okay to talk about your feelings, but remember, you always have the power to make yourself feel better.
See, when you hold on to your worry, it gets bigger and stronger, and then it’s much harder to forget about it. Here is a trick I use to feel calm again. Would you like me to share it with you?
Yes! See this rock with my name on it? I call it my worry rock. I picked it up on a walk one day because I liked how perfectly round and smooth it is. Plus, it’s just the right size for me to hold. Whenever I feel worried, I say to myself, “I know I am feeling worried, and I want to feel calm again.” Then I say everything I am worried about out loud to my worry rock. Sometimes, I even put the rock over my belly button and send all the worry I am feeling to the rock from my belly button.
When all the worry has gone to the rock, I take the rock and rinse it with some water. I let the water wash all the worry away. As soon as the rock gets cleaned, I feel so much better and calmer after that. I let the rock dry and put it away for the next time.
You see, many people use water to clean many different things, so whenever I feel worried, I use water to wash it away. But this is only one way to let go of feeling worried. There are lots of other ways you can do this. What do you think is another way to let go of feeling worried?
