Hi there! I’m Ani, and I’m so happy you’re here to read with me. Today, we’re going to read a fun story called “Are You a Good Egg?” by Peter Uhlmann. Let’s find out what it means to be a good egg!
Have you ever felt angry, sad, or frustrated? It’s okay to feel these things. Let’s see what our story says about being a good egg.
Once upon a time, there was an egg who wondered, “Am I a good egg?” The egg was told to be good, but sometimes it cried and got upset. Even though it was born a good egg, it sometimes felt rotten and mad.
On happy days, the egg would skip around, sing songs, and enjoy the sunshine. Everything felt just right!
But sometimes, the egg felt angry and grumpy, like a zombie making funny sounds. Other times, it felt scared and wanted to hide. The egg even felt fearless and strong, ready to fight dragons!
There were days when the egg felt careless and needed help. But on super days, it felt like a hero, ready to save the day!
Sometimes, the egg felt brave and excited, ready to jump over mountains and surf big waves. But other times, it felt dizzy and confused.
When the egg felt confident, it smiled and led a mission to space! But sometimes, it felt lonely, like an alien with no friends.
The egg learned that it’s normal to feel lots of different emotions. Moods change, but being good doesn’t. You are good because you have a kind heart.
So, are you a good egg? Yes, you are! We all have different feelings, and that’s okay. Just remember, you are a good person, and I’m glad we’re friends.
I hope you enjoyed our story today. Remember, it’s okay to feel different emotions. You’re always a good egg! See you next time for more fun stories!
Emotion Egg Faces: Let’s create our own “emotion eggs” using hard-boiled eggs or paper cutouts. Draw different faces on each egg to represent various emotions like happy, sad, angry, and excited. Talk about times when you felt each of these emotions. Can you think of ways to help a friend who might be feeling sad or angry?
Feelings Scavenger Hunt: Go on a scavenger hunt around your home or classroom to find objects that make you feel different emotions. For example, a favorite toy might make you feel happy, while a dark corner might make you feel scared. Share your findings with a friend and discuss why these objects make you feel that way.
Good Egg Storytime: Create your own story about a “good egg” who experiences different emotions throughout the day. Use drawings or puppets to act out the story. How does the egg handle each emotion? What helps the egg feel better? Share your story with the class or family members.
Sure! Here’s a sanitized version of the transcript:

“Are You a Good Egg?” by Peter Uhlmann.
Am I a good egg? Well, I’m supposed to be good, and I’m told that a lot. Maybe I am, but what if I’m not? I was born a good egg, but I have to admit, sometimes I cry and I throw a fit.
Now I’m growing up, skipping along, in a great mood, singing a song. It’s a great day; it’s shiny and bright. It’s a great day; everything’s all right.
But sometimes I feel rotten. I’m angry and rude, mad, and in a terrible mood. Am I a good egg?
Sometimes I am calm, and my mood is cool. I’m ready to relax and chill by the pool. Sometimes I feel scared, and my eyes open wide. I scream, then I run and hide.
Sometimes I feel fearless, strong, and proud. I can fight a big dragon; I’ll shout it out loud. Bring on the dragons!
Sometimes my mood is grumpy, and I stumble around. I feel like a zombie and make a strange sound. Am I a good egg?
Sometimes I feel careless; it’s easy to see. I’m going to get hurt; please, someone help me.
[Music]
Sometimes my mood is super, and I’ll save the day. I’ll fly to the rescue like a hero. Hooray!
Sometimes I’m excited and feeling brave. I’ll jump over a mountain and surf huge waves.
Sometimes I am dizzy, dazed, and confused. My mood is mixed; I feel wobbly and bruised.
Sometimes I feel confident; there’s a smile on my face. I’m in charge of a mission; we’re heading to space!
Sometimes I feel lonely, like an alien on Mars. I have no friends to play with; it’s just me and the stars.
Am I a good egg? It can be quite confusing to feel so much each day. But feelings are normal, and moods are okay.
Some moods are quick, and some moods are slow. Moods always change; they come and they go.
Good doesn’t change. You are good from the start because you’ll always have a truly good heart.
So am I a good egg? Yes, I am; it is true. I’m a good egg, and so are you!
We all have lots of different emotions and moods, don’t we? Just because we sometimes feel grumpy or mad doesn’t make us a bad person; it makes us normal.
You are a very good person, and I am so glad we’re friends. I hope you enjoyed our story today. See you next time!
