Hello, my reading friends! Welcome to my cozy reading corner. Do you like listening to stories? I have a special one for you today. It’s called “Hedgehog Heart.” Let’s have fun reading it together!
This story is about a new friend named Michael. I love Michael! His heart is special, but I wonder what it reminds me of. Let’s think about the hearts of people we know:
Can you guess what Michael’s heart is like? I think it’s like a hedgehog! Sometimes it curls up into a spiky ball when it’s scared. But when it feels safe, it uncurls and looks for love. My heart is like a roaring lion, sharing love with everyone!
What kind of heart do you have? Is it like a cuddly bear, a wise owl, or maybe something else? I’d love to know!
Let’s say hello to some of our friends: Gizelle in Manchester, Bonnie in Ontario, Lila in Los Angeles, Read in Leesburg, Katie, Abbey, and Matthew in Hanover Township, Riley, Bailey, Noah, and Judah in Chandler, Joshua in California, Benjamin in Seattle, Olivia in Indianapolis, and all the kids at Pedia Manor in Quakertown.
Thank you for reading with me today! I hope you enjoyed our story. See you next time for more fun adventures!
Heart Match Game: Let’s play a game to match hearts with animals! Draw different animals on pieces of paper, like a bear, owl, elephant, and more. Then, think about the people you know and match each person to an animal based on their heart. For example, if someone gives great hugs, they might be a bear. Share your matches with a friend or family member and explain why you chose each animal.
Heart Art Project: Create a heart collage! Gather some magazines, newspapers, or colored paper. Cut out pictures or shapes that remind you of different hearts, like a big bear for a cuddly heart or a wise owl for a smart heart. Glue them onto a large heart-shaped paper. Share your collage with the class and talk about why you chose each picture.
Heart Adventure Walk: Go on a walk with a grown-up and look for things that remind you of different hearts. Maybe a tree is like a wise owl because it stands tall and strong, or a fluffy cloud is like a cuddly bear. Take pictures or draw what you see. When you get home, share your findings and talk about how these things made you feel.

He’s my new friend Michael. I love Michael! His heart reminds me of something, but I don’t know what. Sometimes you know a person’s heart. For example, Daddy’s heart is a grizzly bear; he gives the biggest hugs. Mommy’s heart is an owl; she is so wise with her love. Grandma’s heart is an elephant; her love never forgets you. Granddad’s heart is a cat; shy at first, but then it purrs. Mr. Wilson’s heart is a falcon, keeping the whole class safe in the nest. Our Claire’s heart is a drooling dog; she gives us slobbery kisses. My sister’s heart is a bird; it perches and sings up to the sky. Baby Julia’s heart is a puppy; she wants all your love. Some people’s hearts are octopuses; they hold you tight and are good to get tangled up in. My cousin Rachel’s heart is a monkey; she is so cheeky to the people she loves.
Can you guess what my friend Michael’s heart is? I think I know! It’s a hedgehog. Sometimes it curls up afraid in a spiky ball, and it’s hard to get close. But slowly, slowly, it will uncurl and then it forages around for pieces of love. And my heart is a lion, roaring my love out to everyone.
What kind of heart do you have? Make sure to let me know on Facebook or Instagram because I’d really love to know!
